Chapter 2

The throne room fell silent as Damian's words hung in the air between us. His golden eyes studied me with an intensity that made my skin prickle.

"You've been expecting me," I said, keeping my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me.

"Longer than you know." He circled me slowly, his powerful aura making it difficult to breathe. "What brings the rejected Luna of Silver Claw to my doorstep?"

I lifted my chin, refusing to show weakness. "I want an alliance."

His eyebrow arched slightly—the only break in his impassive expression. "And what could you possibly offer the Lycan King?"

"Knowledge," I replied, stepping forward. "I know every weakness in Austin's pack—every trade route, every alliance, every secret. I can help you destroy him."

A smile played at the corner of his mouth. "Revenge doesn't suit you, Daisy Allen."

"It's not revenge," I countered. "It's justice."

Damian stopped his circling, standing close enough that I could feel the heat radiating from his body. "I'll consider your proposal. But if we're to be allies, you need to be stronger than this."

"I'm already strong," I insisted.

"No." His voice dropped lower. "You're polished. Groomed. Trained to be the perfect Luna. But you're not strong—not yet."

He extended his hand. "I'll protect you and help you destroy Austin. But in return, you will submit to my training. I'll unlock what's been dormant inside you."

I hesitated only briefly before placing my hand in his. A jolt of static electricity shot between us, making me gasp. Damian's eyes widened slightly—the first genuine reaction I'd seen from him.

"Interesting," he murmured, his thumb brushing over my knuckles.

---

The Obsidian Training Grounds lived up to their name—black stone surrounded by towering pines, hidden deep within Lycan territory. Damian stood in the center, his shirt removed, revealing a torso covered in ancient scars.

"Your first lesson," he said, circling me like prey. "Forget everything you've been taught."

I straightened my spine, summoning the dignity of my bloodline. "I won't—"

His hand shot out, gripping my shoulder with bruising force. "That's exactly the problem. You're so concerned with appearing perfect that you've never allowed yourself to be powerful."

He released me and stepped back. "Attack me."

I hesitated, years of Luna training screaming that such behavior was unseemly.

"I said attack me!" His voice cracked like thunder.

Something inside me snapped. I lunged forward, my wolf surging closer to the surface than she'd ever been allowed. Damian sidestepped easily, but the look of approval in his eyes spurred me on.

For hours, he dismantled every careful movement, every practiced stance. "Your wolf isn't a decoration," he growled, sweeping my legs from under me. "She's a weapon."

By midday, I was bruised and sweating, my carefully styled hair coming undone. Damian hadn't touched me since that first grip, but his presence was overwhelming—pushing me, demanding more.

"Again," he commanded as I struggled to my feet.

This time when I charged, something shifted. Rage replaced caution. Power surged through my veins. My wolf howled within me, demanding release.

The change happened in an instant. My vision sharpened, my senses exploded with information—and a wave of pure Alpha energy blasted outward from my core.

The Gamma guards standing at the edge of the training ground stumbled backward, their eyes wide with shock.

Damian's laugh was rich and genuine as he closed the distance between us. He leaned in, his lips brushing my ear. "That is the Queen I saw years ago."

---

"The Silver Moon ore shipment leaves tonight," I said, spreading a map across Damian's war table. Three weeks of brutal training had transformed me—my body leaner, my eyes sharper, my voice carrying newfound authority.

Damian studied the route I'd marked. "Austin's most valuable resource."

"And his biggest weakness." I tapped the narrow mountain pass where the convoy would be most vulnerable. "If we intercept it—"

"We?" Damian raised an eyebrow.

I met his gaze steadily. "Phoenix."

The name of our shadow organization still felt strange on my tongue. What had begun as a desperate alliance had evolved into something more dangerous—a coalition of rogues, dissatisfied pack members, and Damian's elite warriors all loyal to me.

"Phoenix intercepts the shipment," Damian nodded. "And Austin loses not only revenue but face."

I smiled coldly. "The first step in his downfall."

That night, we executed Operation Phoenix. My knowledge of Silver Claw's security protocols proved invaluable as we redirected the entire shipment to a neutral pack—one that owed loyalty to neither Austin nor Damian.

As dawn broke, reports filtered in. Austin had discovered the theft. His investors were furious. His Beta was demanding explanations.

I stood on the balcony of what was now Phoenix headquarters, watching the sun rise over new territory. For the first time since that terrible morning at the Mate Ceremony, I felt powerful.

"The beginning of the end," Damian murmured beside me, his presence a constant warmth at my back.

I turned to face him, suddenly aware of how close we stood. "This is just the start."

His eyes darkened with something I couldn't quite name. "Indeed it is."
