Chapter 1

One year. Three hundred and sixty-five days of loving Oliver Peterson. Of being his mate, his Luna, even if only in the shadows.

I woke before dawn, my heart fluttering with anticipation. Today would change everything. Today, I would finally reveal the truth—all of it.

"Happy anniversary, my love," I whispered to the empty space beside me. Oliver had left early for pack business, but I knew he'd return. Today was special.

I slipped from our bed and padded to the kitchen, my bare feet silent on the hardwood floors. The morning light filtered through the curtains as I began preparing his favorite breakfast—pancakes with fresh berries, crispy bacon, and coffee with just a hint of cinnamon. The aroma filled our cabin as I hummed softly, my hands moving with practiced ease.

From the drawer, I retrieved a small velvet box. Inside nestled the positive pregnancy test I'd taken three weeks ago. My hand instinctively moved to my still-flat stomach. Our pup. Oliver's pup. The heir to the Silverfang Pack.

"He'll be so happy," I murmured, placing the box beside his plate. "This will make everything perfect."

I rehearsed the words I'd practiced for months. "Oliver, I have something to tell you. Something important." My fingers traced the mating mark on my neck, still sensitive after a year. "I'm not just an Omega. I'm Lyla Harrison, daughter of the Lycan King."

The invitation to the Lycan King's Centennial Gala sat in our shared safe, secured with my royal DNA. I'd spent months ensuring Oliver would receive an invitation—my subtle way of helping his pack rise in status. Now, I'd reveal how I'd obtained it.

"The invitation will prove everything," I whispered, adjusting the silver bell I'd placed beside his plate. "And when I tell him about the baby..."

A car door slammed outside. My heart leapt—Oliver was home early!

I hurried to the door, smoothing my dress. "Welcome home! I've made your favorite—"

The words died in my throat. Oliver strode past me without a glance, his face set in hard lines. Behind him trailed two Beta warriors, their expressions carefully blank.

"Oliver?" I followed him into our bedroom, confusion replacing my joy. "What's wrong?"

He ignored me, heading straight to the safe. With quick movements, he entered the combination and yanked open the door. His hand closed around the embossed envelope inside.

"What is this?" he demanded, holding up the invitation.

My breath caught. "The invitation to the Lycan King's Centennial Gala. I told you about it—"

"You stole this." His voice was ice. "Or had it forged to embarrass me."

"No! Oliver, please—"

"Enough!" He tossed the invitation onto the bed. "I know what you're doing. You think this will make you worthy of being my Luna? A wolfless Omega with delusions of grandeur?"

I reached for him, my hand trembling. "Oliver, I can explain—"

"Save it." He grabbed a bag from the closet, stuffing clothes inside. "I'm taking Kori to the Gala. She deserves to be there—unlike you."

My world tilted. "Kori? But... we're mated. I'm your Luna."

His laugh cut through me like glass. "You? My Luna?" He gestured at the invitation. "This is too prestigious for someone like you. Kori has the breeding, the connections. She'll make a proper Luna for the Silverfang Pack."

"Oliver, please listen!" Desperation clawed at my throat. "The invitation is bio-coded to my DNA. If you try to use it with someone else—"

"More lies!" He whirled on me, eyes flashing amber. "You're pathetic, Lyla. Always scheming, always desperate for attention."

I backed away, my hand protectively covering my stomach. "I'm not lying. The security protocols—"

"Enough!" He grabbed his bag and strode toward the door. "I'm done listening to your delusions."

"Oliver!" I followed him, panic rising. "Don't do this!"

At the door, he turned. His eyes were cold, unrecognizable. "You're not coming with us. And you won't contact Kori with your insane accusations."

Before I could protest, he pulled something from his pocket—my phone. "No more harassment."

"Oliver, no!" I lunged forward, but he was already outside.

The door slammed shut. I heard the distinctive click of the reinforced locks engaging—locks I'd installed for our protection, now trapping me inside.

"Oliver!" I pounded on the door. "You can't do this!"

Through the window, I saw him hand my phone to one of the Beta warriors. They were loading his bag into his black SUV. Kori waited beside it, her smile triumphant as she slid into the passenger seat.

"Oliver!" I screamed, my fists bloodying against the unyielding door. "The invitation will alert security! You'll be arrested!"

He paused, looking back at me with contempt. "More jealous lies, Lyla. No one would believe a wolfless Omega over an Alpha."

The SUV's engine roared to life. As they drove away, I sank to the floor, my back against the door.

"He can't use it," I whispered, my hand cradling my stomach. "The invitation is coded to me. If he tries..."

But even as I thought it, dread coiled in my gut. Oliver had no idea what he'd stolen—or who he'd betrayed.

And neither did Kori.
