Chapter 7

Melany blended into our lives effortlessly. In public, she wore a smile that conveyed empathy and warmth. Behind closed doors, however, she often subjected me to her biting sarcasm.

"Elisabeth, you're quite the refined lady, surely more worldly than I am. Tell me, have you ever heard of someone shamelessly clinging to another?" she mocked, having learned from Maximiliano about my special connection with Snowball.

And then my nightmares began.

Melany unleashed her cruelty on Snowball, tormenting him relentlessly. She would dunk him into hot water, pulling him out just before his cries reached their peak. And then she'd do it again, repeating this twisted ritual until Snowball's voice could no longer be heard.

When I finally discovered her, my skin bearing the same scalded marks as his, she was holding a pair of scissors. Before my very eyes, she clipped off the tip of Snowball's ear.

Both Snowball and I cried out in agony, the blade leaving trails of blood in its wake. When Maximiliano returned and saw the aftermath, Melany feigned innocence, pointing to a minor scratch on her arm.

"I'm sorry, Max. Snowball scratched me first. I only defended myself..." she whimpered.

Maximiliano's concern was immediate. "How could you be so reckless?" he gently reprimanded.

"It's just a cat, after all. No need to apologize for disciplining him."

Melany knew exactly how far to push things. Clipping an ear tip was painful, but the wound was small enough to escape serious notice. With just a slight redirection of Maximiliano's attention, my own injuries went unseen.

Melany nestled into Maximiliano's embrace, a satisfied smirk playing on her lips.

From Rejected Omega to the Supreme Alpha's Queen Novel Cover

I stood before a polished black headstone, tracing the gold letters of my own name. Five years ago, my Fated Mate, Clayton, rejected me in a blizzard because I was a "useless Omega" who couldn't shift. He left me to freeze to death so he could mate with my sister, Ainsley, claiming it was necessary for the pack's genetics. Now, Clayton stood behind me, trembling as he dropped a bouquet of wilted lilies. He thought I was a ghost. But when he realized I was alive, the shock turned into arrogance. He tried to use his Alpha Command to force me to my knees. My family was even worse. When I walked into the pack house, my father accused me of treason for "faking my death." My aunt tried to slap me for being disrespectful. They demanded I donate my blood to save my father's life, still treating me like a disposable resource. They didn't realize that the pressure crushing the room wasn't coming from them—it was coming from me. They had thrown away a Royal White Wolf to keep a human pretending to be a shifter. The irony was suffocating. I didn't flinch when they threatened me. I just smiled and let my true aura explode, turning the air to ice. "You rejected me for being weak," I whispered, my eyes flashing silver. Then, the doors blew off their hinges. My husband, the Supreme Alpha, walked in and grabbed the elders by the throat. "You just declared war on the Blood Moon Pack."

I went to The Ivy to return a box of scripts and hoodies, hoping to finally bury my past with movie star Harrison Knox. I just wanted to be a good wife to Julian Sterling and keep my family’s business merger intact. But Harrison had other plans. He staged a paparazzi ambush, pulling me into a fake embrace just as the cameras flashed. By the time I got home to our Bel Air estate, the headline "Harrison Knox Heartbroken? Tearful Reunion with Serena Vance" was already trending worldwide. The fallout was brutal. My father called, roaring that the stock was in freefall and threatening to stop my mother’s medical payments if I didn't keep Julian happy. My movie funding was pulled, leaving me to pawn my Birkin bags just to pay my staff. Even worse, Julian’s cold indifference turned into a sharp, quiet rage. He heard me tell a friend that our marriage felt like a transaction, and his response was to toss a black Centurion card at my feet like I was something he’d bought at an auction. I was trapped between a narcissist who wanted to use my trauma for his next script and a father who saw me as nothing but a bargaining chip. Even Julian, the man who secretly bought my movie rights through a shell company to protect me, believed I was still screaming my ex's name in my sleep. When my family finally demanded I lie and accuse Julian of domestic abuse to secure a settlement, I realized I had nothing left to lose. I walked away from the Vance name, deleted every memory of Harrison, and stood at the edge of the Pacific Ocean ready to let the tide take me. But Julian didn't come for a divorce. He found me in the dark, his coat heavy on my shoulders and his eyes burning with a possessive fire. "There is no divorce in the Sterling family," he whispered against my ear. "There is only widowhood. You are mine, Serena, until one of us is in the ground."

On the anniversary of my mother's death, my father, the Alpha, threw a lavish wedding to marry a woman only four years older than me. My new stepmother publicly humiliated me, stomped on my hand, and shattered the only necklace my mother left me. When I confronted her, my father slapped me across the face and ordered me to respect my new Luna. Heartbroken and furious, I publicly disowned them all. In retaliation, my father sentenced me to death the very next morning. He offered me as a tribute to the cursed Lycan King—a monster whose beast savagely tore apart every she-wolf sent to his bed. My family watched with smug satisfaction as I was locked in an iron cage and dragged away, discarded like defective trash simply because I was born wolfless. I was supposed to be ripped to shreds on my first night in the pitch-black castle. But as I stood in the King's dark chamber, bracing for the bloody end, nothing happened. The terrifying beast just sat in the shadows, staring at me in absolute confusion. That was when the horrifying truth of his curse clicked in my mind. His madness was triggered by the spiritual scent of an inner wolf. And I was completely wolfless. The very defect that made my family throw me away was my ultimate, impenetrable shield. I wasn't going to die here. I was going to survive, use this terrifying King, and make my family regret the day they ever cast me out.

The man who swore he would burn the world down for me has been married to another woman for three years. I found out the day I was finally discharged from the Swiss clinic he'd sent me to. I flew home to surprise him, only to discover my release was a year overdue. He had forged my medical reports, painting me as a fragile, broken thing just to keep me locked away while he built a new life. His new wife, Isabella, hit me with her car. He defended her, calling me hysterical. She stole my art portfolio and claimed it as her own, and he forced me to take the blame to protect his family's reputation. She even killed her own puppy to frame me. While I jumped into a freezing river to retrieve my father's medallion that she'd thrown in, he stood on the terrace pointing out a meteor shower to her. The final betrayal came when Isabella faked her own kidnapping and named me as the culprit. I didn't understand. This was Dante Moretti, the Devil of the East Coast, my guardian, the man who had sworn to be my shield. Why was he letting this woman destroy me piece by piece? Believing I was the kidnapper, he had me tied to a helicopter, dragged across a field, and left me for dead. But I didn't die. I survived. Five years later, I have a new name, a new life, and a husband who loves me. And today, I just ran into Dante on the street. He looked at me like he'd seen a ghost.
