Chapter 2

I stormed through the pack house, my vision blurred with unshed tears, Luna's rage pulsing beneath my skin. Pack members scattered from my path, their whispers trailing behind me like smoke. The humiliation of that moment in the training grounds burned through me, but it was the betrayal that cut deepest—a wound so profound I could barely breathe around it.

Our den—once a sanctuary—now felt tainted. Marcus's scent, once comforting, made my stomach turn. I slammed the door open, finding him lounging on our bed, scrolling through his phone as if this were any ordinary day.

"What's wrong?" he asked, barely glancing up.

"What's wrong?" My voice trembled. "Your son recognized you today."

His fingers froze over the screen. "What are you talking about?"

"Emma called out 'Daddy' to a little boy at training today. A boy who carries your scent." I stepped closer, watching his face for any flicker of remorse. "Sophia Blake was there too. With an infant."

Marcus set his phone down slowly, his expression shifting from shock to calculated control. "Victoria, you're overreacting. Sophia is just—"

"Don't." The word sliced through the air. "Don't you dare lie to me."

"I'm the Beta of this pack," he said, standing to his full height. "Watch your tone."

Something snapped inside me. Years of dimming my light, of swallowing my power, of believing in a sacred bond that he had trampled—it all crystallized into a moment of perfect clarity.

"And I," I said, feeling Luna surge forward, "am Alpha Sterling's daughter."

For the first time in years, I let my suppressed Alpha aura flare. The energy crackled around me, filling the room with a pressure that made Marcus take an instinctive step back. His eyes widened as he felt the power he'd forgotten I possessed.

"Victoria—" His voice faltered, the bravado draining from his face. For just a moment, guilt flickered in his eyes—not for the betrayal, I realized, but for underestimating me.

"How long?" I demanded.

"It's complicated," he hedged, but I could smell the fear rising from his skin. My wolf, so long contained, was pushing against her boundaries, demanding retribution.

"How. Long."

"Three years," he finally admitted. "But it wasn't supposed to—Emma wasn't supposed to—"

I turned away, unable to look at him. Three years. While I raised our daughter. While I supported his rise to Beta. While I believed in us.

"Get out," I whispered.

"This is my den—"

"GET OUT!" The Alpha command in my voice shocked us both. Marcus stumbled backward as if physically pushed, his wolf instinctively responding to the dominance in my tone.

He left without another word, the door closing softly behind him.

I collapsed onto the floor, Luna howling her grief inside me.

Moonlight streamed through the high windows of the pack house as I slipped silently down the corridor. Emma was asleep in my father's quarters, safe under his watchful eye. The night patrol wolves nodded respectfully as I passed—news traveled fast in a pack, and sympathy for the betrayed mate of their Beta ran deep.

The treasury chamber door was locked, but as Alpha's daughter, I knew every secret of the pack house. The small key, hidden in a hollow beneath the third stair, turned smoothly in the lock.

Inside, the scent of paper and ink filled the air. This was where pack finances were managed, resources allocated, futures secured. And this was where I would find the truth.

Luna's senses guided me, her nose picking up Marcus's scent concentrated around a particular cabinet. My fingers trembled as I pulled open the drawer, finding ledgers neatly stacked and labeled.

I traced his scent to a false bottom, cleverly concealed. Beneath it lay another set of books—unofficial records in Marcus's handwriting. Page after page documented transfers to accounts I didn't recognize, resources diverted from pack funds.

Dates. Amounts. Purposes vaguely listed as "special projects" or "contingency planning."

The earliest entry was dated three years ago—exactly when his affair with Sophia began.

* * *

I spent hours cross-checking the official ledgers against Marcus's secret accounts. Each discrepancy was meticulously noted in my own journal, my hands shaking with fury as the pattern emerged. Housing allowances. Medical care. Integration fees. All diverted to support Sophia's entry into pack society and their illegitimate children.

Luna's enhanced vision caught what human eyes might miss—the slight indentation of Marcus's pawprint on certain pages, made when he'd signed documents in partial shift. The pack bank seals on authorization forms. His scent embedded in the paper.

Evidence. Irrefutable evidence of theft alongside betrayal.

I closed the ledger, a cold calm settling over me. The mate bond that had once filled me with warmth now felt like a chain I needed to break.

"He didn't just betray me," I whispered to Luna. "He betrayed the entire pack."

*He will pay,* my wolf promised, her voice stronger than it had been in years. *We will make him pay.*

As I slipped the ledgers back into their hiding place, a new scent drifted through the air vents—Sophia's perfume, now inside the pack house. She was here, moving freely in the home that should have been my domain.

My fingers curled into fists. This was just the beginning.
