Chapter 5

Hailey's POV:

Even though I brazenly proposed the idea of getting married, the thought of spending the days with this man feels so intense and overwhelming even if our marriage was going to be fake and for show.

He was still holding me in his arms, not caring about the place. My body heats up and I am blushing profusely.

Sherman seems so straight forward with his touches and flirting, he was living up to his reputation. I tried once again to put some distance between us and this time he straightened up and his hold on me loosened.

His playful expression changed into his cold and indifferent one.

"The wedding will be in three months, would that be okay, Miss.Synder?" He asked, my heart stopped for a beat and I had to stop myself from collapsing on the ground as his words and my reality registered in my head.

"Y..Yes? It's fine with me." I am still in denial about everything and I had to think for a second to answer.

"Remember your promise, Miss.Synder. Just because I agreed to marry you doesn't make me have feelings for you, that won't ever happen." Sherman said, without any emotions visible on his face.

"It's just a business deal, Dr.Synder." His words came out cold and indifferent. He doesn't have to worry about feelings, my feelings died when I caught my cheater boyfriend fucking my bestfriend.

And I have a very bad example of my parents' marriage and how it worked out so I don't believe in it anymore.

"Sure, Mr.Gatsby. You don't have to worry about that." I said, my tone cold and indifferent as him. He just raised his brow in amusement as he left.

From the day Sherman Gatsby accepted by deal and announced that the wedding will be in three months, day seems to pass so fast as it's already half a month to that day.

It's been two weeks since my mother had her surgery and she was in the hospital for observation. She was doing well and that's all that mattered to me.

Mrs.Teresa Gatsby was discharged from the hospital too. On the day she was going home, she asked me to sit down for a chat and told me that Sherman Gatsby may seem cold and ruthless but he was a softie and a kind person from inside.

I don't believe a single word regarding her grandson because I saw with my own eyes how non-chalant and indifferent he was and I don't believe in love, relationships and all.

Our marriage was just a business deal where we both are benefitting from each other. There was no particular time limit for the deal but Sherman has the power to divorce me at any time and I am okay with it.

I just nodded my head at whatever she said and smiled when she praised her grandson. She left after hearing from my lips that I will be patient with him and give him a chance.

It was all half a month ago and I was so busy doing back to back surgeries that I didn't have any time for anything.

Today I had two surgeries and I felt like I was going to collapse on the floor. As soon as I left the operating room, I ran to my apartment, took a very hot shower to relax my aching muscles and scoff down the Chinese takeaway.

My phone rang, I retrieved it from the coffee table already guessing who it was, it's not like I have anyone who calls me but only one person.

I answered the call with my eyes closed as I am too sleepy to keep them open. I haven't been sleeping properly.

"Sherman?" I asked, my voice coming out in a whisper.

"It's me." His deep husky voice sent shivers down my spine and my eyes snapped open. I haven't heard his voice since he took me to dinner, it was half a month ago. He was the one who called me abruptly and asked me to get ready and said he will pick me up from my apartment.

We took some pictures together as he wants to post them publicly and let everyone know that we are seeing each other and most importantly he wants his Grandmother to see and it worked out in his favour.

"What's going on?" I asked, not knowing what to say.

"There will be a charity event tomorrow. We need to attend it together." He said, my eyes went straight to my schedule and I don't have any shift for tomorrow so I can attend with him.

I foolishly nodded my head in answer but face planted myself when I realised he can't see me.

"Yes, at what time will you be picking me up tomorrow?" I asked, my fingers are thrumming on the coffee table in front of me.

My wolf was giddy and excited to hear his voice. She has already accepted him as her mate and she misses him more than I can admit.

She doesn't know that whatever we have was nothing but a transaction. He had paid my mother's surgery money as per the deal and now I have to fulfil my duty.

"At 6'o clock." He answered, he hadn't asked how I was and what I was doing. He went straight to the point. I groaned internally at my head for these weird thoughts.

"Go to bed early, I don't want you to look like a zombie tomorrow night." His words pinched my heart and my stomach churned painfully.

"I had made an appointment with a stylish. I'll take you there to get you ready for the party." He ended the call after that. A tiny bit of disappointment tried to make it inside my heart but I squashed it down.

What does he mean that I'll look like a zombie! He ended the call abruptly without saying good-bye.

I went to sleep with a frown on my face and Sherman's words replaying in my head. I had checked my face in the mirror and I really looked like a zombie with a pale face and dark circles around my eyes.

I put on a face mask and slept so my face may look somewhat colorful the next morning.

I did the ward rounds in the morning and I got a call from Sherman when I was finishing a check up. He was outside the hospital to pick me up for the appointment.

When I went out, his car was nowhere to be seen. I waited for a minute and a luxurious car stopped in front of me. The window rolled down showing the ice Prince, whose face still looks cold and hard as his empty eyes meet mine.

"Get in the car." I narrowed my eyes, no hey, no hello, nothing.

The driver side door opened and a man came out of the car and opened my door for me.

Hello, Miss.Synder. I am Dion Lopez, I'll be your chauffeur for the day." He greeted me warmly as his eyes held appreciation.

"Hello, Thank you Dion." I thanked him as his eyes lingered on me. A loud clearing of throat snapped him from his appraisal and he instantly jumped in fear, apologizing and closing the door behind me.

I sat far away from the man who was glaring at me like I had done something. If he doesn't want to be friendly and just treat me like a business transaction then I'll treat him the same.

My heart felt like it would burst at any second as it started beating like crazy as his mouthwatering scent wafted towards me. My wolf was so giddy and wagging her tail as she was near Sherman whom she thought of as her mate.

"Are you scared of me, Sweetheart!" Sherman's voice made me jump in fear, his endearment didn't feel like he was talking to a lover but he used it in a sarcastic way.

His arms snaked around my waist and he pulled me close to his warm body. I look so small compared to his broad shoulders and thick thighs. He was a very beautiful and powerful man.

"Will you walk beside me tonight like this? Like you want to be anywhere but near your Fiancee!" He growled, I can feel his wolf's dominant presence as he feels like I am disrespecting him. He's reminding me to do my duty but with his intimidating personality, how can I relax!

"N..noo. Mr.Gatsby. I was just tired." I lied, I sure am afraid of the man who glares and growls at anything and anyone.

I tried to relax in his arms, as I put my head on his chest. I don't know what's going on in his head. He was the one who was cold one second and hot one second. He is confusing me.

"Where are we going?" I asked, trying to recognise the new surroundings but he didn't answer. I shut my mouth after that and after what feels like ages, Dion stopped the car in front of a shop which looked luxurious.

Sherman's eyes trailed along my bare face and his lips slightly curled in anger. I know from his distaste that he wants me to be presentable beside him but I had no time after my shift to put on my make up.

I hang my head in shame and didn't say a word till we reached our destination.

I haven't been in any of the shops like this one. Dion helped me out of the car, I thanked him and followed Sherman inside the shop.

"Good afternoon, Mr.Gatsby. It's a pleasure meeting you." My wolf growled at the woman who was wearing a mini dress and had a seductive smile playing on her red lips.

I narrowed my eyes at her audacity to flirt with my fiancee. I shook my head at my stupidity and walked inside.

"You have an hour to give her a makeover." Sherman orders as he sat on the chair and opened a business magazine, ignoring me.

The stylist dragged me towards a room where she washed my hair, blow dried it and put some curls and volume to it. She did my makeup and I haven't seen myself in the mirror yet.

I am already exhausted from this, and I don't know how I will survive the party.

She put me in a red dress which hugged my body very perfectly and the tail of the dress looked like a fish tail. I was changed into a brand new Hailey. The woman pushed me out of the room, in front of Sherman whose eyes snapped at me when he heard the click clacks of my heels.

His eyes flashed with surprise as they trail along my body and face. He hadn't seen me with make up and in a body fitting dress ever. I stood there under his scrutiny as his gaze burned my body and tingles spread through it.

Sherman's eyes darkened with desire and I gulped, my werewolf nose can detect the scent of arousal in the air.

His hard jaw clenched, he stood up from the chair he was occupying and pulled me into his body, his scent once again surrounded me but this time with a bit of arousal.

Without any words, he dragged me towards the car.

My heart dropped to my stomach at his dismissal, it's not like I want him to praise me non-stop. He at least has said anything.

He sure has too many mood swings. His indifference and cold nature is driving me crazy.

He remembered my childhood pet' s name, our first meeting, and my obscure tea brand, but for five years, Braylon couldn't remember I was allergic to shrimp. It glistened in my pasta, a cruel reminder of how little of me registered in his mind, especially as he laughed with a familiar blonde across the room. My stomach churned, not from the allergy, but from a deeper sickness. That night, at a sprawling rooftop party, Braylon handed Dallas Huff, a young blonde, a delicate bracelet-a replica of her grandmother's, a story he'd told me a hundred times. "Dallas, this reminded me of you," he said, his voice soft, intimate. She beamed, leaning into him, her eyes sparkling, then flickered to me with a triumphant, venomous gleam. When Dallas purred about a gallery opening, Braylon chuckled, "Eliza will be coming with us. Our anniversary dinner is that night." He turned to me, a forced smile pleading for me to play along. But I was done. "It's over, Braylon," I whispered, "And my name is Eliza." He looked genuinely lost, unable to recall my actual name, while Dallas and his friends mocked his forgetfulness. His eyes, wide and confused, searched my face. "Eliza? What are you talking about? Your name is... it's always been..." He trailed off, genuinely lost. A bitter taste filled my mouth. He remembered every trivial detail of Dallas' s life, but my actual name? It was a blank. Later, he left me stranded on a dark, winding road after I refused to apologize to Dallas. My phone was dead, and I stumbled, breaking my ankle. As I lay there, alone and injured, I sobbed, "Why did I stay? Why did I waste five years on him?" Braylon, meanwhile, drove away, a gnawing unease simmering beneath his anger, only to return to a horrifying scene.
