Chapter 6

The private runway at Engadin Airport, St. Moritz, was accustomed to the arrival of global elite, but not to the calculated, aggressive power that descended with Kaius Kincaid. His personalized, unmarked Gulfstream G700 landed with the authority of a military jet.

Kaius stepped onto the icy tarmac. He didn't see the sparkling snow or the majestic peaks; he saw a hunting ground. He was dressed not in a suit, but in rugged, expensive cold-weather gear-a black cashmere coat, heavy boots, and dark sunglasses that masked the chilling intensity of his eyes.

Commander Zev was waiting in a black armored SUV, the engine running.

"Report, Zev," Kaius demanded, his voice low and sharp, cutting through the biting Alpine wind.

"Sir, the initial surveillance is set. Dr. Voss, a former intelligence asset, is maintaining the cover as 'Dr. Petrov' in the village. He confirms her physical state is consistent with early pregnancy-exhaustion, nausea, isolation."

Kaius's jaw tightened. She is carrying my child. The certainty hit him with the force of a physical blow, igniting a dark, possessive heat in his chest. "The villa."

"She's in the Chalet Berggeist, a secluded two-bedroom rental. She has not left the property except for one short walk yesterday, where she briefly encountered Voss."

"Good. And the ownership?"

Zev hesitated. "Sir, following your instructions, we secured the neighboring property-Chalet Himmelreich-three hours ago. The former owner was compensated fifty times the market value. It's fully staffed and operational for your arrival."

A slow, terrifying smile spread across Kaius's face. "Excellent. I don't want her to feel safe, Zev. I want her to know, every single day, that she breathes my air."

He entered the SUV. The car moved silently up the winding mountain roads towards the high-end, discreet corner of the village-directly to the chalet next door to Elara's secret sanctuary. Kaius wasn't there to negotiate a deal; he was there to reclaim a possession.

Elara Vane was a battlefield of nerves. The encounter with 'Dr. Petrov' had shattered the illusion of her safe exile. She had spent the entire morning in a frenzy, searching the financial news, her secure lines, anything that would indicate Kaius was near. Nothing.

He's playing a mind game.

She tried to contact the Zurich OBGYN, only to find the line disconnected. When she called the agency that rented the villa, the assistant sounded strangely hesitant, confirming everything was "fine" but refusing to let her speak to a manager.

"He knows," she whispered to her reflection. Her face was pale, and her eyes held a hunted look. The sudden realization that she wasn't just hiding from a rival, but from a possessive, determined Alpha who considered her his property, was terrifying.

The physical exhaustion was compounding the fear. She was perpetually sick, forcing her to eat small, tasteless meals. Her body was betraying her, demanding rest and protection that she couldn't afford to give.

As she collapsed onto the living room sofa, she felt the first flicker of movement in her lower abdomen-not the baby, of course, but a nervous flutter, the physical manifestation of her stress. She pressed her hand there, a sudden, desperate urge to protect the tiny life overriding her anger.

"I'm sorry," she whispered to the invisible child. "I'm doing this for you. Your father is a monster."

Her internal struggle was fierce. The baby needed peace, but the mother needed to fight. She decided she couldn't wait two weeks for the Zurich appointment. She needed a prescription for the debilitating nausea, now.

She found the name of the local St. Moritz clinic, bundling herself in layers of concealing clothes. It was risky, but the alternative was collapse.

As she drove her rented car down the driveway, she glanced towards the neighboring chalet, Chalet Himmelreich. It had been empty when she arrived, standing cold and silent behind a protective fence.

But today, the chalet's garage doors were open. A brand-new, charcoal-gray Range Rover-the kind only a man of Kaius's stature would drive-was parked inside. And two imposing security guards, dressed in unmarked but obviously high-end tactical gear, were patrolling the perimeter.

Elara's breath caught in her throat. The color drained from her face.

It's not a mind game. He's here. He bought the house next door.

Elara drove past, gripping the steering wheel so tightly her knuckles were white. Her plan to visit the clinic was now overshadowed by a chilling certainty: Kaius had laid a trap.

She drove straight to the most secluded section of the village, parking near the frozen lake. She needed air, and a strategy.

As she stepped out of the car, she realized she was shaking uncontrollably. She walked toward the frozen shore, wrapping her scarf tightly around her neck.

"Running into me again, Vane? You seem to have a strange predilection for my company."

The deep, resonant voice hit her like a physical shockwave.

Elara spun around. There he stood, leaning against a centuries-old stone wall, looking impossibly imposing against the backdrop of the white mountains. He wasn't wearing sunglasses now; his grey eyes, usually cold, were burning with a hot, focused intensity she hadn't seen since the night they had spent together.

"Kincaid," she managed, her voice barely a thread. "What are you doing here? Did you lose another deal, and decide to vacation in my corner of the world?"

He pushed off the wall and walked toward her, slowly, deliberately. Every step was a declaration of ownership.

"I came here to finish what you started," he stated, stopping just inches away. The sheer heat radiating off his body was a stunning contrast to the freezing Alpine air. "You walked into my office, threw fifty million dollars at my feet, and vanished. You humiliated me, Elara. Did you genuinely believe I would let you get away with it?"

"I secured my company," she hissed, fighting the urge to lean away from him. "I paid your price and cut you out. This is harassment. I will call the police."

Kaius let out a low, predatory chuckle. "Police? Here? You think they'll arrest the man who just purchased three of the largest chalets in this valley? I'm funding half their winter charity gala, Elara. I am the authority here."

He reached out, his gloved hand reaching toward her face. Elara flinched, but before she could recoil, he merely brushed a snowflake from her scarf.

"You look like hell, Elara," he said, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "Pale. Exhausted. And jumpy. Are those 'rare autoimmune disorder' symptoms finally showing?"

His casual use of her lie was a dagger to her heart. He knew. He was playing with her.

"Stay away from me, Kincaid," Elara warned, stepping back. "You have no right to track me. You have no right to follow me."

"Every right, Elara," he countered, taking a step forward, forcing her back toward the frozen lake. "You made yourself my fixation. When you rejected my money, you made the price higher. Now, the price is you. And I always collect."

He was terrifying-not because of his threats, but because he was so blatantly sure of himself, of his right to control her.

"I'm not a possession. I'm not for sale, or for taking," she snapped.

Kaius suddenly changed the subject, his eyes flicking down to her mouth. "You're still wearing the same necklace you wore that night, Elara. The silver crescent moon."

She unconsciously touched the delicate silver chain beneath her scarf. "It means nothing."

"It means everything," he contradicted softly. "You think that night was an act of hatred. It was an act of possession, Elara. And now, I'm going to make you understand the difference."

He took her arm-not violently, but with a firm, inescapable grip. "We're going to my chalet. We need to discuss the terms of your 'exile.'"

"Let go of me!" she struggled, pulling against his steel grip. The exertion, mixed with the intense stress and the freezing cold, suddenly became too much.

A blinding wave of dizziness hit her. The world spun violently. The blood rushed from her head, and the nausea she had been fighting all morning surged up, overwhelming her.

She gasped, stumbling, her legs giving out.

Kaius's grip instantly shifted, his possessiveness giving way to a sudden, startling concern. He caught her before she could fall onto the stone wall, his large, warm body supporting her entire weight.

"Elara! What the hell?" he demanded, his voice rough with alarm.

Elara couldn't speak. She doubled over, clutching his coat, trying desperately to suppress the urge to vomit. Her head was swimming, and she felt herself slipping toward blackness.

"I'm... sick," she managed, the word a pathetic wheeze.

Kaius quickly swept her into his arms, lifting her against his chest as easily as if she weighed nothing. The move was primal, protective, and utterly dominant.

"Don't you dare pass out on me, Vane!" he ordered. He looked down at her pale, defeated face, then looked around the empty, isolated village square.

He carried her rapidly toward her own car. He didn't ask for the keys; he found them in her coat pocket, opening the door and gently placing her into the passenger seat.

As he buckled her in, his eyes, still filled with ruthless obsession, softened only slightly with a flicker of raw, protective concern. He leaned in, his face inches from hers.

"You're coming with me," he dictated. "My chalet is warmer, and I have a doctor on staff. You are not going to ruin yourself or my-your company, while hiding from me."

He was about to slam the door and move to the driver's seat when his gaze fell on the small, discreet paper bag she had placed on the passenger floor.

The bag was from the Apotheke (pharmacy). It was not her usual designer brand. The corner of a small, white box was visible through the thin paper.

Kaius leaned down, his grey eyes piercing the contents. He saw the distinctive logo and text: 'Advanced Prenatal Vitamins.'

The momentary concern vanished, replaced by an expression of cold, frightening triumph.

He straightened up slowly, his eyes locking onto Elara's, which were wide with exhausted panic. She knew he had seen it. The game was over.

"Prenatal vitamins, Elara?" he asked, his voice now dangerously smooth, the casual tone of a predator who had finally cornered his prey. "I thought you had an aggressive autoimmune disorder."

Elara tried to push herself away, her strength returning in a desperate surge of self-preservation. "It's none of your business. Get out of my car!"

He ignored her frantic demand. He reached over, and with a single, firm motion, gently rested his large hand on her abdomen, over the protective layers of her coat. The weight of his hand was electrifying, paralyzing.

"This changes everything, Ice Queen," Kaius murmured, his possessive gaze never leaving hers. "You didn't just reject me. You stole my heir. That is an act of war, Elara. And I will not tolerate it."

He withdrew his hand, his eyes now cold, hard diamonds. He walked around the car, got into the driver's seat, and started the engine.

Elara scrambled for the door handle, but he locked the car immediately.

"Don't waste your energy. You're coming home with me," Kaius stated, pulling the car onto the road. He wasn't taking her to the clinic. He was driving her up the mountain, past the secluded paths, directly towards Chalet Himmelreich-the chalet right next door.

"You've had your fun in exile," he snarled, glancing at her with an expression of ruthless, terrifying dominance. "Now, the Shadow King is putting his mate and his heir under lockdown."
