Chapter 3

I retreated to my private chambers, my hands trembling as the weight of my decision finally hit me. The door closed behind us with a soft click, and only then did I allow myself to breathe fully. Shadow followed closely, his small body pressing against my leg as if sensing my need for support.

"Shadow," I whispered, reaching down to stroke his unusual silver-marked fur. "What have I done?"

He looked up at me with those intelligent eyes—too intelligent for a pup his age—and somehow conveyed understanding without words. As if he'd always known this moment would come.

I moved to my dressing table, wincing as I caught sight of Whitney's claw marks across my cheek. The wounds weren't deep, but they stung nonetheless. Shadow jumped onto the table beside me, watching as I prepared a simple cleansing ritual.

"Even after three years," I murmured, crushing dried moonflower petals into a small bowl, "her cruelty still surprises me."

Shadow's eyes never left my face as I mixed the herbs with moonwater, his presence oddly comforting. I dipped my fingers into the mixture and gently applied it to the scratches.

"I should have done this long ago," I said, more to myself than to him. "But I needed them to believe me weak. To think me broken."

The ancient words of healing flowed from my lips in a language few remembered, silver light shimmering beneath my fingertips as the wounds began to close. Shadow watched with fascination, his silver eyes glowing faintly in response to my power.

"You understand, don't you?" I asked, struck by how attuned he seemed to my emotions. "You know why I waited."

He moved closer, pressing his small body against my hand in a gesture that felt remarkably like reassurance. Through our growing bond, I felt his silent confirmation—he understood his role as my guardian, my spiritual anchor.

With newfound resolve, I stood and moved to the center of the room. It was time.

"I call upon the ancient laws of the pack," I spoke, my voice gaining strength with each word. "I invoke the right of bloodline succession. Let all who bear the mark of Silverpaw hear my summons."

The words carried a supernatural compulsion that rippled through the pack mind-link network. I felt it like a stone dropped in still water, spreading outward from my chambers throughout the territory.

Shadow's ears perked up as distant howls began to echo across the pack lands—acknowledgments of my call. No Alpha could deny a bloodline summons; no wolf could ignore the ancient authority in my voice.

---

The great hall buzzed with nervous energy as pack members abandoned their evening activities, drawn by the unprecedented summons from their usually submissive Luna. I stood at the entrance, watching as they filed in with confused expressions.

"Luna Nora?" one of the younger wolves approached hesitantly. "Is this about Alpha Raymond? We heard there was some kind of... incident."

I met his gaze steadily, allowing a hint of silver to flash in my eyes. "Be patient, Liam. All will be revealed."

Whispers spread through the gathering crowd as I moved to the ancient stone dais at the front of the hall. Chen appeared at my side, his presence solid and reassuring.

"The warrior council has been notified," he murmured. "They're positioningly throughout the hall."

I nodded slightly, scanning the faces before me. Wolves from every rank and division had responded to my call—a testament to the power of bloodline authority that even Raymond had never commanded.

---

A commotion at the entrance drew everyone's attention. Raymond strode in, his clothing torn and bloody, Whitney close behind him. Both looked worse for their brief visit to the borderlands, but their expressions were ones of righteous fury rather than defeat.

"What is the meaning of this?" Raymond demanded, his voice carrying across the now-silent hall. "Why have you summoned my pack without my permission?"

"Your pack?" I repeated softly, allowing the implications of his words to hang in the air.

"You dare attack your Alpha?" Whitney hissed, her perfect features marred by scratches and dirt. "You'll be punished for this, Nora. The entire pack will see you humiliated!"

Raymond's parents entered behind them, their expressions concerned and confused. Margaret Mendoza, the former Luna, looked between her son and me with growing alarm.

"Mother," Raymond said, gesturing wildly. "Tell her! Tell her what she's done!"

But before Margaret could respond, the doors to the great hall swung fully open. Raymond and Whitney froze as they realized what was happening—pack members were still streaming in, responding to my call rather than Raymond's.

For the first time, doubt flickered across their faces as they looked out at the assembled wolves—wolves who had chosen to answer my summons over their Alpha's implied command.

"What have you done?" Whitney whispered, her voice suddenly uncertain.

I stepped forward, Shadow at my heels, and felt the weight of ancient power surge through me.

"I've only just begun."
