Chapter 2

On the other end of the phone, Anastasia Elliott paused briefly before speaking:

"Alright, tomorrow your father and I will meet with the Phillips family to discuss the wedding plans."

Audrey Phillips stayed awake all night.

The next morning, Lennon Gray didn't return home; he just sent a message:

"Audrey, there's an issue at the company, and I need to go on a business trip for three days."

Audrey didn't respond. Instead, she booked a flight to Italy for a week from now. She started packing up her things—a daunting task since she had lived with Lennon for several years, accumulating quite a lot. With the Elliott family's finances dwindling, she decided to sell whatever items she could online.

That evening, she received a notification from an unfamiliar account on social media.

"Hi Audrey~"

Audrey opened it, finding an avatar featuring a pregnancy test report, and the account name was 'Zelda's Happiness.' It was a new, private account created by Zelda Collins.

Zelda hadn't dared to announce her pregnancy publicly, and Audrey was the only one she had connected with through this account.

Shortly after, Zelda posted on TikTok, sharing photos of Lennon accompanying her to a prenatal check-up, captioned:

"Look at this—a gentle, caring, and fabulously wealthy dad-to-be! 😊"

Audrey saw through her intentions and reacted with a heart emoji, commenting:

"Got what you wanted and now you're back to taunt me. Zelda, how does it feel to revel in someone else's misfortune?"

The next day, Audrey said goodbye to her close friends and handed over her luxury goods to the buyers interested in them. On her way home, she received another TikTok notification from Zelda.

This time, it showed Lennon helping Zelda shop for maternity clothes. The pinks and whites made each outfit look appealing.

Audrey scanned the previous video; Zelda had replied to her comment with a particularly smug tone:

"It's not like I begged for your blood; Lennon insisted because he was worried."

Audrey sneered and replied with a simple '?'.

On the third day, Audrey sold the gifts she had given Lennon over the years—all those shirts, shoes, and watches. Zelda posted yet another TikTok.

This time, it showed Lennon arranging for her stay at a luxury postnatal care center, with the caption: "Some people are just born lucky."

That afternoon, Lennon finally returned home.

He noticed the slightly emptied bedroom and the addition of a pink suitcase, furrowing his brows:

"Why does the house feel so empty? Those shirts you gave me are gone. What's with the suitcase?"

Audrey lowered her gaze, casually making up an excuse:

"Those shirts were outdated, so I got rid of them. I thought of traveling but decided against it."

Lennon guessed she might be upset about his absence and revealed a contract he had long prepared for a limited edition Lamborghini sports car:

"I've been busy working these past few days. I ordered a sports car for you; let me take you to pick it up."

Audrey glanced at the contract. Unlike other women, she wasn't interested in handbags, but she had a passion for sports cars. This Lamborghini was one she had been eyeing recently. Lennon customized it in her favorite black and pink color scheme, even selecting seats adorned with her favorite cartoon character, Winnie the Pooh. For eight years, Lennon remembered her preferences meticulously. If she hadn't overheard the conversation between Lennon and Nevaeh outside the hospital room, she might have been moved.

"Thank you."

Audrey set the contract aside, and Lennon frowned, leaning closer to gently pinch her pale cheek.

"Still upset, huh? There's a gala tonight. Let me take you out to relax."

Audrey was about to decline, but Lennon already led her downstairs, hand in hand.

Just as the Bentley began to move, Lennon's phone rang. It was 'Cutie Zelda' calling.

Audrey couldn't catch the conversation, only hearing a faint "Lennon, please save me."

Lennon's handsome face tensed up. He tapped the screen to locate Zelda's real-time location using an app and quickly turned the car around.

"We're skipping the gala—Zelda's been kidnapped, and I need to rescue her."

Lennon sped through several red lights.

Twenty minutes later, he confirmed Zelda was in the black sedan ahead. Narrowing his eyes, he floored the gas pedal.

Crash!

The rear of the black sedan crumpled instantly!

Simultaneously, the Bentley's passenger side was rammed fiercely by another one of the kidnappers.

Audrey couldn't dodge in time; her head got hit, blood spilling instantly!

The scarlet liquid flowed from her forehead down her pale face, the heavy pain in her head like thousands of needles piercing her heart, leaving her speechless for a long time.

Despite the violent collision, Lennon didn't spare Audrey a glance, keeping his eyes fixed on Zelda inside the black sedan.

After ramming the vehicle three more times, the black car was forced to stop, and its occupants quickly fled into another accomplice's vehicle.

Lennon pushed open the car door and pulled Zelda from the back seat, his dark eyes showing worry for the first time:

"Are you scared? Are you hurt anywhere?"

Zelda nestled into Lennon's arms, turning to reveal her flushed cheeks, crying like a delicate flower in the rain:

"It was my dad's business enemies—they just slapped me, nothing serious."

Her appearance tugged at Lennon's heart, prompting an angry shout:

"How can you say it's nothing? You've always been pampered by me—how could you go through something like this? And the baby, what if something happens to the baby?"

"Waaah, it's your fault for being late. I was so scared..."

"Don't worry, it's my fault. I'll take you for a full check-up now."

Lennon carried Zelda to the back seat of the Bentley, reached the hospital in just five minutes, and rushed her to emergency care.

Throughout the ordeal, he hadn't noticed Audrey, red-eyed, with blood covering her forehead—a sight shocking enough to terrify anyone.
