Chapter 2

Kim's POV

“Let me make it clear to you,” he said, voice cold as ice. “You are not fit to be my Luna. I reject any form of relationship with you.”

The words landed heavily, like something snapping inside my chest.

“Useless,” he added under his breath.

Then he turned and walked away.

The door slammed behind him so hard the walls seemed to tremble.

I flinched.

My throat tightened, but no sound came out. My eyes blurred almost immediately, tears rolling down without permission.

I didn’t wipe them. I just sat there. And everything after that stopped feeling real.

---

The next hours passed in a blur.

Voices came and went around me, distant and unclear. Hands touched my arms, guided me, adjusted me, but I couldn’t tell who or when.

My body moved when it was told to, but my mind stayed frozen in the same moment… his back turning away from me.

Something inside me felt hollow. Like whatever had been there before had been pulled out and left empty.

They took my baby.

My fingers twitched weakly against the fabric beneath me, like I was trying to reach something that was no longer there.

But my body wouldn’t respond properly.

It just lay still.

***

When I finally stood outside the Alpha’s mansion, a cold wind brushed against my skin.

But the chill inside me was worse.

Susan, my handmaid, held my arm tightly as she guided me in.

The moment we stepped into the hall, I felt eyes on me from every direction.

A few maids paused their work, their gazes locking onto me instantly. I could feel their attention sharpen the moment I walked in.

Whispers started almost immediately.

“I heard… she lost the baby,” one of them said quietly.

My steps slowed for a second.

I kept moving.

The other maid gave a small, amused scoff. “So it’s true. Weak Luna, weak body…”

My fingers curled slightly at my side.

I didn’t look at them again.

But I heard the quiet laughter that followed.

“Move,” Susan muttered, tugging me forward.

She didn’t slow down.

If anything, she walked faster.

Each step up the grand staircase felt like I was walking on thorns. My legs trembled slightly, but I forced them to keep moving.

She knew I could barely keep up.

Still, she climbed like she wasn’t responsible for supporting me, forcing me to follow or be dragged. My hand gripped the railing, my breathing uneven.

But she didn’t look back. Didn’t ask if I was okay. Didn’t care.

By the time we reached the bedroom, my vision blurred at the edges, and my body felt like it might finally give out.

Susan pushed the door open and “helped” guide me inside.

The moment I crossed the threshold, she let go. Just like that.

I staggered slightly, catching myself before I could fall.

When I turned to look at her, she was already watching me. Her expression cold and empty.

“You’re fine now,” she said flatly. “You can handle yourself from here, right?”

For a moment, I just stared at her.

My throat burned. My chest ached. Everything inside me screamed, but none of it made it to my lips.

So I just nodded. Because what else could I do?

“Good,” she said.

And just like that, the door slammed in my face.

I stood there for a second, staring at the wood, my mind slow to catch up with what had just happened. Then my body gave in.

I turned and moved toward the bed, each step wobbly. When I finally sat down, it felt like all the strength left me at once.

My legs felt like jelly.

Slowly, I lay back on the bed.

The ceiling blurred above me as I stared at nothing. I needed to sleep, but my body refused to let me rest.

Every time I closed my eyes, I heard a baby’s cry.

A sharp, piercing sound echoing in my head like it was real.

But it wasn’t.

I never heard my baby cry. Not once.

Still, it wouldn’t stop.

The sound kept ringing, over and over again, filling the silence, crawling into every corner of my mind. My chest tightened, and I snapped my eyes open, gasping softly.

It felt like a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from.

I turned my head, staring into the empty room, my heart aching in a way I couldn’t explain. Minutes passed… or maybe hours.

The light outside slowly faded until the room was swallowed in darkness.

And still, I couldn’t sleep.

I pushed myself up slowly.

“Don…” I whispered, though no sound really came out.

Where was he?

I hadn’t seen him since he angrily left the hospital.

Swallowing the dryness in my throat, I stepped away from the bed. Then, with quiet steps, I walked toward the door and pulled it open.

As I walked through the hall, everything inside me felt worse.

The whispers and stares followed me like a shadow I couldn’t escape.

Up ahead, I spotted one of the maids carrying a tray of food. My throat tightened, but I forced myself to speak.

“Please… send some food to my room,” I said quietly.

She stopped, glanced at me, then at the tray. Her expression instantly turned stiff.

“These are for the Alpha King. He’s downstairs,” she replied curtly.

And just like that, she walked off.

I stood there for a second, watching her leave, my fingers curling slightly at my sides.

Right. The Alpha King.

Alpha King Amon—the supreme Alpha. Higher than every other Alpha. The one who came to packs unannounced, inspecting their borders and putting other Alphas in place. And if anything was wrong, punishment followed.

Normally, as Luna, I should have gone to greet him.

But not like this.

Not when I was dirty, sweaty, and broken.

I swallowed hard and kept walking. I needed to find Don.

I turned into another hallway. Then I stopped.

A low, muffled sound reached my ears.

A soft moan behind the closed door of his private room.

My heart tightened instantly.

I froze for a second. Then moved closer slowly.

My hand hovered over the handle. For a moment, I didn’t open it. Something inside me hesitated.

Then I pushed the door open.

“Don?” I called softly as I stepped in.

And stopped.

Don was there, half-turned.

His hands gripping a woman’s waist as he moved against her.

The room felt too loud all of a sudden.

Everything in me went still. He froze the moment he saw me.

But she didn’t, still oblivious.

“Gosh… I was so close,” the woman complained breathlessly, pushing her hips against him. “Why did you stop?”

Something about her voice made my stomach drop.

It was familiar. Too familiar.

Then she turned. Her eyes met mine and the world tilted.

My hand reached for the doorframe to steady myself as dizziness swept through me.

It was Susan.

My mate was sleeping with my handmaid while I mourned our dead baby.
