Lyra's POV

I could still feel his hands on me.

Hours had passed since I'd fled Leo's office, but my body still thrummed with the aftershocks of what had almost happened. My skin tingled with the ghost of his touch, my breath felt heavier, my mind a tangled mess of need and fear. Every time I closed my eyes, I was right back there: pressed against his desk, his fingers grazing my skin, his breath fanning over my lips, his presence wrapping around me like a storm I couldn't escape.

No matter how hard I tried to shake it, I couldn't.

And the worst part?

I didn't want to stop thinking about it.

I stood at the window, my forehead resting against the cold glass, watching the rain drip down in uneven patterns. The world outside was blurred, distorted, matching the chaos swirling inside me. Each drop that slid down the glass felt like a countdown, like the universe was ticking away the seconds until something snapped inside me. The air in my room felt too thick, too heavy, suffocating me with the weight of emotions I wasn't ready to face.

The estate was too quiet tonight. Too still.

It felt like it was waiting for something to happen.

Leo. Adrian.

Their names echoed in my mind, suffocating me, twisting around my thoughts like chains I couldn't break. One represented my past, the other my present. One was familiar, filled with pain and history, a wound that had never fully healed. The other was a fire, burning too bright, too hot, threatening to consume me whole.

Adrian, with his dark, unreadable eyes, the weight of our shared past pressing down on me like a vice. He had been my world once, the person I trusted above all others, until he wasn't. Until the truth had shattered everything between us. And yet, even now, even with the years and scars between us, I could still feel the pull of him, like gravity, relentless and inescapable.

Then there was Leo.

Leo, with his burning gaze, his quiet dominance, his touch that made me forget everything except the fire raging between us. He was dangerous in a way I had never encountered before. Not because he would hurt me: no, Leo was dangerous because he could break through every wall I had built around myself. He saw me, really saw me, in a way that made me feel exposed and vulnerable. And yet, I had let him touch me. I had let myself drown in him, even if only for a moment.

And that moment had changed everything.

I hated them both.

I wanted them both to leave me alone.

But the terrifying truth?

I wasn't sure I wanted to escape Leo at all.

I closed my eyes, exhaling shakily. Get a grip, Lyra.

Then

A soft creak of the door.

I stiffened, my heart lurching before my mind caught up.

I didn't need to turn around.

I knew who it was.

"Lyra."

Leo's voice was smooth, commanding, yet rough around the edges.

Like gravel wrapped in silk.

A shiver danced down my spine before I could stop it.

I turned slowly, my pulse pounding in my ears as I met his gaze.

He stood in the doorway, watching me.

His presence filled the room like a storm, suffocating, inevitable.

His dark eyes locked onto mine, unreadable but intense: as if he was seeing straight through me, peeling back every layer of resistance I was desperately trying to hold onto.

The door shut behind him with a quiet click, the finality of the sound sending my heartbeat into a frenzied rhythm.

He moved closer.

Deliberate.

Unhurried.

Like he already knew I wasn't going to run.

"I told you this wasn't over," he said, voice low, edged with something dangerous.

Heat spread through me, traitorous and consuming.

"Leo, we can't-" My voice betrayed me, trembling with uncertainty.

He ignored my words, his fingers grazing my arm, a featherlight touch that burned like fire.

I sucked in a sharp breath, stepping back, but my body already missed the warmth of his touch.

"You keep saying that," he murmured, taking another slow step forward. "But you never walk away."

I should walk away.

I should push him back, set a boundary, do something to break this cycle.

But instead, my pulse thrummed wildly as he reached for me, his fingers curling under my chin, tilting my face up.

His touch was firm but gentle, possessive without force.

His thumb brushed against my bottom lip, and I forgot how to breathe.

"You fight me with words," he murmured, his lips hovering just above my temple. "But your body?" His hand slid down, resting against the small of my back. "That tells me the truth."

I wanted to deny it.

I wanted to say that I wasn't burning from the inside out just from being near him.

But we both knew the truth.

I swallowed hard, my voice barely above a whisper. "This is a mistake."

Leo's lips curved into a dark, knowing smile.

"Maybe," he murmured, his breath hot against my ear. "But that doesn't mean you don't want it."

My body betrayed me, a slight tremor running through me as his fingers pressed gently but firmly into my lower back, guiding me closer.

Close enough that I could feel the heat of him seeping into me.

Close enough that I couldn't tell where I ended and he began.

I should say something.

I should stop this.

But then-

Leo's mouth claimed mine.

It wasn't slow.

It wasn't careful.

It was raw and demanding, filled with every unspoken thing between us.

I gasped into the kiss, my hands instinctively gripping his arms, not pulling him away, but pulling him closer.

He groaned, the sound vibrating through me, making my knees weak.

His hands tightened on my hips, possessive, dominant, as he pressed me against him, leaving no space, no escape.

I should resist.

I should break away.

But instead, I kissed him back just as fiercely, my fingers threading into his hair, gripping him like he was the only thing keeping me grounded.

His lips moved down my neck, slow and deliberate, his teeth scraping just enough to make me shudder.

"You belong to me," he growled against my skin, his voice thick with desire.

I should have fought back.

Should have told him he was wrong.

But when his hands skimmed up my sides, his fingertips grazing the hem of my shirt, I forgot every reason why this was a bad idea.

Leo lifted me effortlessly, setting me down on the bed, his body pressing into mine.

I should push him away.

I should tell him to stop.

But instead, my legs wrapped around his waist, pulling him closer, my body betraying me with every gasping breath.

His hands moved-slow and intentional, tracing my spine, memorizing every inch of me.

I felt devoured.

Owned.

Completely consumed.

"Say it," Leo demanded, his voice a husky whisper against my skin.

I clenched my fists, my breath hitching as his lips trailed lower, leaving a burning path behind.

"I... I can't," I whispered, but my body told a different story.

Leo's eyes darkened, his grip tightening.

"Yes, you can."

His mouth found mine again, and I sank into him, my resolve shattering like glass.

I was his.

Even if I didn't want to be.

Even if I fought it, denied it

It was too late.

Leo had already won.

His hands roamed lower, sending heat racing through my body, setting fire to every last shred of self-control I had left.

And just as the world faded away, lost in the storm of him

I knew.

I was standing on the edge of something dangerous.

Something I couldn't control.

And when I finally fell

There would be no one to catch me.
