Chapter 2

DUSTIN

Her image continues to reflect in my mind as I walk off. I never wanted a woman who would come in and make my heart race, Louise doesn't need such a nanny. My brothers and I don't need a woman we will be tempted to have an affair with. One of the greatest mistakes I made was by not specifying the age range. Perhaps an older woman from forty years would've been better.

My brothers and I made a promise to our late mate that we would never give our heart to another woman after her death. This is what the pack members know but the secret is we don't want to endanger any woman that would decide to step in to be our next mate. She's sure to be killed by our first mate who is a Phoenix Vampire, prior to her dangerous nature we laid her down but her spirit still hovers in the estate. Once she detects we have someone else, she would definitely come for the person.

We specified that it would take a very long time before we bring another woman into our hearts but still we won't love her as we loved her. This was to calm her spirit before ending her life. We told our pack members and even our daughter that Lucy got diagnosed with cancer last year and died within that same year. She had Ovarian cancer which made it difficult for her to conceive but it was her endless dream to raise a baby with us. We went extreme to the point of adopting a baby from a foreign pack, a baby from a mother who wasn't capable of raising her child to make everyone believe. In this aspect, we could justify our action. She's a vampire and a cold breed one whose eggs were frozen, she couldn't bear a child.

As for the real mother of our baby girl, according to information from the hospital she gave birth at, she got impregnated after a one-night stand at a five-star club where she went to find a partner. The father of the child must be some wealthy bastard who knew how best to fuck a lady without protection, making her risk a pregnancy and eventually pulling her to suffer all alone.

Austin, Justin, Aaron, Baron, Cameron, Sharon and I loved Lucy so much, she was our only mate and at times I sit to think and conclude that it's a curse from the moon goddess. How can we be fated to a hundred year old vampire who was the woman our dad dated in his lifetime without knowing who she truly was until years later after marrying her.

We brought a curse directly on ourselves by taking in our dad's woman, even though she wasn't the one he later married but so far as they once dated, the curse of the moon goddess descended on us. I've never seen the moon goddess as unfair before, but I'm forced to say so here. With this curse, any other mate we would later have wouldn't stay to give us a pup, she will die.

If Lucy, originally Alexia, was a werewolf like us, I would say she died from the curse. Well, no one really knows what the issue is, or whether it's just fate. We choose to keep it a secret from everyone.

I shake my head to clear off this thought, each time I think of this, my wolf gets so weakened, he'd loved Lucy so much and now she's no more. Seeing Alexa, the new nanny trying to take my heart from my beloved wife and mate, I find myself slowly beginning to hate her.

I initially wanted to pick some document from the drawing room but seeing Alexa, I need to return as quickly as I can to talk to my brothers. This is just a mysterious fate, why will she bear a similar name with our first mate, as well as exert a deep sense of bond with me.

Something must be wrong somewhere!

I rush to the living room where we sat, waiting for Alexa's arrival before I left. I know Austin really well, after waiting for a while and not seeing Alexa, she would want to come down. When he comes down and sets eyes on Alexa, there's no way he won't want her. He loves women and then he will be able to convince the rest into accepting her.

I just guess I'm the one who loved Lucy more.

"Heyyy guys," I call out as usual. "Alexa is here but I just caught gossiping about us with Maurin, trying to get some information about us which is strictly prohibited." I lied. This should be like a second reason to reject her, I just decide to hide my main reason. I can't let her risk her life just to serve us. She might not understand me here but sure, I know what I'm saying. It's this first before we talk of her wanting to derive information about us from Maurin, our life and our fate ought to be a secret, if I let her in, she might go on to know more than what she deserves to know, even before the right time to know it. I also have to consider this.

"I've sent her away, I don't want a nanny with such personality. She might end up putting us in trouble." We need someone who's able to stick to the rules strictly.

Austin, Justin and I are celebrity actor, athlete and pop idol respectively. Coming to Aaron, Baron, Cameron and Sharon, they are public figures as well who ought to avoid scandals as much as possible.

Aaron is a celebrity author with millions of fans worldwide, Baron, a senator at the National Assembly, Cameron, a top model and our last born, Sharon who is a rocky cop. He looked most hot especially in his black and black uniform, always getting girls to throw themselves voluntarily at him during duty and off duty for an unwarranted arrest.

With this, we needed privacy, probably why we decided to keep our personal information from foreign packs.

Louise, our five year old daughter comes out of the inner room running towards us. I watch who she's going to meet among the seven of us. My heart was beating heavily, I feel like I'm in a competition with my brothers to gain Louise’ attention all the time.

"Daddy, who's that? My new nanny?" I gasp, pulling out a loud noise upon seeing her running up to me. It's evident, I'm her favorite dad.

"Yes baby, but she's not the right person for you." I didn't know she was eavesdropping on us. Nanny talks so far have been what had driven her interest so deep. After her mom's death, we'd always hired contract nannies from local agencies to take care of her. It seemed she didn't like them enough, so this time around we decided to bring a professional nanny with years of experience.

"Whyy?" She asks as she climbs on top of my laps. Justin who's sitting on the same couch with Austin reaches out to grab her hand. I pout my lips, folding my arms across my chest, turning to the back and back towards her, trying to figure out what best answer I should give her.

"She talks too much!" I let my tongue slip with this, out of the hatred I've incur for her without even thinking much. I blink my eyes in curiosity as I wait for Louise' reaction to this. I feel I made a mistake, I should've said something better.

"I like her!" I flare my eyes. Then I narrow it, wondering if she knows what she wants. "I want someone who will talk and play with me. Other nannies I had were too strict."

Before I get to respond to her, she's up from my laps and is running out of the room.

"Heyy, Louise. Wait!" I begin to chase after her but she's running at a fast speed. I believe she's a born athlete and might possibly take over from Justin. Besides we didn't even know what next she was up to.

"Hey wait! Daddy doesn't want you to go meet her now!" I shout after her, being the dad she loves most, I thought she's going to listen but she doesn't.

I stamp my feet in anger, still directed towards Alexa. Louise isn't stubborn this way, I get curious as to why she defied our calls to go see Alexa. What's so special about this lady that since she walked in, my wolf got excited. Now Louise is so eager to see her like there's some invisible force following her.

"We need to get that woman out of here as soon as possible. I perceive she has a bad influence, even on Louise who hasn't seen her before." I stress out to my brothers who follow me out of the living room to catch up with our daughter.

When we climb down the stairs, Louise is already heading through the entrance door. My heart seizes knowing next to our mansion is the road. I can't afford to lose her after losing her mother and our mate last year.

My eyes scanned over to Maurin's place behind the desk, her head was over the desk. Anger ripples in my chest.

"Why are you sleeping by this time when you're supposed to be awake?" I lash at her with my loud voice and a loud hit on the desk which forces her awake and really panting. I gesture to my brothers to go after Louise, I want to deal with this woman here who has let Alexa's influence catch her.

"Oh God, sir! I'm so sorry, Alpha." She stammers. She gets confused not knowing what to do.

"You're fired! Pack your things and go." I say, pointing to the door. "Our daughter just ran past here through the door to the road. What if something happens to her on the road and you're here sleeping, meanwhile you could have stopped her from going through if you were awake!" I say in between gnashing teeth, balling my fingers.

My anger still links to Alexa, I feel she's the cause of all this mishap. Maurin has never slept off at work before, talk less of this early morning, something must be wrong. I can't help but to let her go. If she wishes, when she has learnt her lesson, she can return to another job.

With this, I rush outside. My heart stops beating as I see Alexa holding Louise so high in the air and then clutching her so tight to her chest. My eyes trail over to my brothers, who stare at the scene with so much shock. My eyes slowly open to the truth, something I'd not noticed before now.

“Why do they look so similar?” Sharon, our last born who is claimed to be smartest asks.

“Could it be what I'm thinking?” Austin, our eldest, pokes his eyes out, freezing to the spot he stands. Tension ripples in my chest as I take a deeper look between Alexa and Louise.

“Goddess! This cannot be possible!”

Alexa’s POV

“Heyy, nanny. Hello!”

I heard a little girl's voice pull up behind me. I'd left the estate already but still praying deep inside of me for something to happen which will take my back. I couldn't afford to miss two great opportunities, working with my celebrity crush and raising funds for my surgery as well. Without having a health challenge, I'd still love to do this job.

I had to imagine how hard it must have been for seven dads to raise a child. No matter how many they were, the child still needed maternal care. Probably, this sensitive nature was aroused particularly after I'd lost my baby in adoption. I felt my breath going away for me as she was being taken off me but yet I couldn't take care of her either, I was helpless myself, without parents or support from anyone.

I was eighteen then, just graduated from college and was looking for some rich, handsome guy to mingle with, someone who would foot my bills. This probably led me into gathering the little money I had to attend a luxury dinner party at an exquisite bar with the hope of landing with a wealthy guy. This was the greatest mistake I made, I only landed with an unplanned pregnancy.

Right after losing my baby, the only soul I had on earth to comfort me, I realized I'd made a great mistake, worse than engaging in a one-night stand. I was determined to find her as far as she lives on this earth, no matter what it took me.

Well, nobody knows but this was my secret reason for enrolling in a Nanny Care Agency, a prestigious one. Thank God I passed my tests and became one of the best nannies over the years. In each family I went to look after the kid, I dreamt of seeing my baby. There's no way I wouldn't know her if I saw her.

So when I heard this little voice call me, I stopped, turning around slowly. “Maybe God wants to use her to call me back,” I say inside of me. My eyes lowers slowly to look at her.

I stumble backward, nearly falling if not that I take a good stance. My eyes blink up and down as I gaze at her. “Am I dreaming?” What? She looks so much like me, could this be a coincidence of what I just had in mind or she's–

My daughter?

My eyes nearly falls out of their sockets seeing this cute little girl with the same face as me. When my daughter was taken away from me, her adopters represented by their legal delegates didn't let me have any information of where they will be taking her to or who she will be with. I was only told she's wanted in a foreign elite family who can't make a kid. Foreign because they didn't want an after connection between my daughter and I, the parent, later on in the future so they took her somewhere so far away.

“Why do I look so much like you?” The little girl mutters, looking up at me with pretty, dull eyes. My lips are wide open as I stare at her without being able to provide her with an answer. She just said exactly what I was about to ask.

It's at this point, I see seven hot men, all identical, same height and faces, muscular, hot and sexy stepping out of the estate. I pull the little girl into my arms, holding her so tight.

Gosh!

Here is another mighty distraction. My eyes settle on them without being able to lift off them. I feel ripples in my stomach, my eyes start to go blur like some white film is settling over it. My legs tremble and I feel some sweat in my palms.

“Who are these?” I mutter, asking the little girl.

“They are my daddies. Seven Alphas raised me up after the death of my mom. That's why I'm asking "why do I look so much like you?” She repeats her question but still I wonder what to tell her, even I, myself, am confused. What then can I say? So for the second time, I'm pretending as though I didn't hear her ask this.

“What's your name?” I choose to bring up another question to take off the pressure from thinking about this.

“Louise.”

“Louise? Woww!” I smile.

“What a lovely name.” I try to cheer her up, acting happy but only I know what I'm feeling inside. As the confusion in me heightens, the seven Alphas are coming closer. It hits me deep to realize that they all have the same scent. My wolf, which has always been calm, immediately leaps up, growling so loud that I can feel my lungs vibrating, my heartbeat triples. My head and mind at this moment seems to be clouded with a white film as they walk closer. Slowly I feel sparks rolling over me, tingles climbing up with the riot of the hormones inside of me.

“What's really going on?”

“Mates! Mates!! Mates!!!”

I hear my wolf leap and screaming, I stamp my feet on the ground, refusing to accept this. All my life, especially after I was abandoned after my one-night stand, which is often so, I yearned for a fated mate who would love me and care for me, well I also knew it's so hard seeing one as a single mother. Even after I gave my daughter up for adoption, I thought I'll find one shielding this part of my life from the public and pretending to be a single young woman, yet I found no one.

I need one man, not seven Alphas. How can all these cute, charming, sexy young men be mates with such a lowly girl as I? I'm sure the moon goddess made a pretty big mistake by doing this.

“Come on, these are Alphas and one of them is an idol. Why will they even look at me twice?” I question my wolf. Or is it my wolf that's making this mistake.

“But they are looking at you?” My wolf retorts. I swallow the lump in my throat.

“What do you mean?”

As I look straight for the first time into the Alphas’ eyes, I realize they are doing the same to me right now. Gosh!

“Good morning, Alphas.” I force a smile, bowing in respect. The environment isn't conducive especially with this set of bosses I'm seeing, commanding and possessive but I really need this job, I wish to work for my celebrity idol, even if it's for free. This little girl here is a new mystery I've been saddled to uncover.

How can I leave now?

I now have a thousand and one reasons to stay and accept this job. Louise, first of all, my health and then Dustin, my celebrity crush whom I only wished to meet but never really thought of meeting.

“Who are you?” One of them emerges, coming closer than others. His eyes did scan me all round, I feel with his look he has already investigated about me and carried out all the necessary checks. He pulls his nose up, sniffing the air.

“Why am I feeling so tense?” He smirks, his tone being filled with a bit of mockery. In addition, he's stern and seems wicked. I gulp down saliva. I wanted to respond to him but I can't. My lips fumble but I don't say a word.

If looks could kill, I would probably die at this moment.

“Hey young woman,” he continues. “Don't joke with me lest I arrest you. I'm a police officer and you have no right to lie before an officer of the law.” I shiver as he walks even closer. My eyes are shaking in their sockets. I can't grab Louise as firmly as before.

“If you don't tell us the truth, I'll propose a new law at the Senate against you-” I turn to check out the one who's saying this. He doesn't show any difference from them. I want to know their names. I just want to memorize their names, I wish I could. I can't just address them all as Alpha since the particular one I'm referring to wouldn't get it, except I look too deep. I'm not ready to stare at them this way but yet, the next moment my eyes land with theirs, the gaze becomes even more overpowering.

“Baron, leave her to me. This isn't the senate.” The officer snaps.

It's at this point my crush walks forward with a rock-hard face. “I'll handle her.” He says to his brothers. My mind starts to form dirty thoughts being that one guy I'd always crushed on.

“Why is my wolf feeling so excited seeing you when I hate low class women like you?” He asks in a deep, cold voice filled with sarcasm. As I keep mute, not replying, he growls, making me quiver.

“Stop talking to mama like that.” Louise protests.

“What?” I gasp, raising my eyes up, wishing the Alphas didn't just hear that but they did. My heart nearly stopped hearing this little girl say this to Dustin. I take a deep breath, falling my shoulders.

They all eye me suspiciously, not saying a word. The next moment they are whispering among themselves, except Dustin who's right here in front of me. My breath goes heavier as seconds pass. This moment of silence leaves me wondering what my next fate will be, will they reject me or accept me?

“Hmm,” Dustin sighs. “Why do you look so similar like Louise?”

“No, there's something fishy somewhere. I wouldn't take you.” He shakes his head, throwing off a consulting gaze with his brothers. There's a frightening air of silence. Suspense overshadows me as I stand here, being drifted between wanting to take the job for my health and refusing because of these cold, possessive seven Alphas whom my wolf says I'm mates with.

My hands snap off Louise, I stumble back as my legs shake.

“What's wrong?” She asks. I shake my head, waving my hand.

“Nothing!” I mutter.

“Why don't you want to take her? I like her dad.” Louise protests.

“We can't take someone who has a similar face to you to avoid fan criticism. We are celebrities, you know that right? We don't want some scandal talks.”

“You mean she's likely to be my mom?” Louise raises a voice of concern.

“If so, who cares! You must take her!” She lashes back at Dustin.

“No darling,” I squat, grabbing her shoulders. “You don't talk to dad that way, whether I'm accepted or rejected, just that I really needed this job to save my life.”

“What? What do you mean?” Louise comes closer, staring deep into my eyes with curiosity.

I sighed, reluctant to say this but there's this strong force that keeps pulling me to say it. I really like Louise so much that I feel I can't just hide anything from her.

“You like me, right mama?”

“Why do you keep calling me mama?” I ask.

“Because you look so much like me.”

I blush, brushing her face with my fingers. My eyes get teary at the moment. Before saying this, I lift my eyes towards Dustin and his six brothers, they all have their eyes pointed at me. I feel probably they didn't really hate me that much but something stops them from accepting me right away.

“Well, I have a brain tumor and I agreed to do this job to raise money for my surgery. I have only two years left.” I swallow hard, trying to stop the tears from coming out of my eyes.

“Huh?” I hear as they all chorus in unison, coming closer. Their brows lowers as they stare at me curiously.

“Maybe we don't need to let her die after all?”

“Cameron, you can't say that? How do we know if she's lying or not, she must be lying. Look! She looks so healthy and no top agency will hire a sick person and send her overseas for work. She must have undergone her medicals. She's probably lying to get her way in.”

I ball my fist, rising up in anger. “I thought you were so kind and loving as the media did show you but all that I realize, you're just the most cool, arrogant and sarcastic person I've ever met.” I lash at him, not caring about what he'd do to me.

Grabbing my luggage, I pat Louise on the head. “I love you so much and wish I could stay to know more about you but I can't cope with your dad. Well, we'll meet again someday, if not here, beyond the skies.”

My lips pull out into a sad smile, with my teary eyes, I turn around about to walk off but two hands grab me suddenly, on either side.

“Don't go!”

What? Did I just hear Dustin say this?

Rising From Ruin: The Discarded Heiress Novel Cover

I woke up in a sterile hospital room, my body feeling like a hollowed-out shell. For fifteen years, I had been the "spare part" of the wealthy Kensington family, a foster child kept only as a biological resource for their golden daughter, Jenna. My adoptive mother, Kathryn, walked in with a cold-eyed doctor, discussing me like an old car needing parts. They were planning another bone marrow "harvest" for the next morning, even though the doctor admitted the procedure was risky because my body hadn't recovered from the last extraction. "Passable is fine," Kathryn said, waving away the danger to my life like she was swatting a fly. "Just get it done. It's her only value." Jenna arrived in a wheelchair, putting on a performance of fragile sisterly love while actually glowing with health from the blood I had given her months ago. I watched as the doctor callously jabbed a needle into my arm, missing the vein on purpose, before turning off my pain medication pump as a final act of petty cruelty. They left me there to rot, convinced I was just a dull, submissive girl with nowhere to go. I lay in the silence, feeling the weight of every scrap they’d fed me and every hand-me-down I’d worn while Jenna lived in luxury. I realized I was never a daughter to them; I was an organ farm meant to be drained until I was empty. But as the door clicked shut, the fog of sedation in my brain finally lifted, replaced by a cold, predatory stillness. "Oracle," my mind whispered. "Online." I ripped the IV from my arm and escaped into the night, turning a five-dollar piece of junk into a six-million-dollar fortune in the city's darkest underground markets. By the time I returned to the Kensington Manor, I wasn't the useless foster girl they remembered—I was a predator with a massive bank account and a plan to take back everything they stole from me.
