Contract Bride: Rising From The Shadows Novel Cover

Contract Bride: Rising From The Shadows

I was hired to be the "cure" for the Stuart family’s reputation, a wife whose only job was to manage the emotional risks of Casper Stuart’s cold-blooded empire. My life was governed by spreadsheets and compliance reports, and my value was measured solely by my ability to remain a silent, perfect asset. On our second anniversary, Casper didn't come home for dinner; instead, a Page Six alert showed him with a Victoria's Secret model at Soho House, his hand possessively on her back. When he finally returned, he didn't offer an apology, but a clinical reminder of my "obligations." I soon discovered he had given my three-million-dollar anniversary bonus—a pink diamond necklace—to his mistress, while tossing me a cheap bracelet his assistant had picked out. When his mother offered me a two-hundred-million-dollar settlement to disappear, Casper tore the contract to shreds in front of me. He whispered that he had bought up every cent of my family’s medical and gambling debts, turning my marriage into a life sentence of indentured servitude. To prove his power, he kicked me out of his car in a rainstorm twenty miles from the city, leaving me to walk home barefoot while he drove off with my dog. "Tell her you want to stay," he had commanded in front of his mother, using my mother’s life as leverage to keep his "portfolio" intact. I stood in the mud, shivering as the rain washed away the mask of the supportive wife, realizing that to the Stuarts, I wasn't a human being—I was a line item that could be liquidated or crushed at will. But Casper forgot one thing: I am an actress, and I’ve finally landed the role of a lifetime. I’m done managing his risks; I’m about to become his greatest liability.

Chapter 5

The basement of the community center in Brooklyn smelled of damp concrete and old coffee.

Dosha stood in the center of the room, wearing a grey tracksuit. She was sweating. She had just finished a monologue from A Streetcar Named Desire. She had screamed, she had wept, she had broken down.

For a moment, there was silence. Then, scattered applause from the twelve other students.

Sloan, a blonde actress who had once had a three-line arc on Law & Order, rolled her eyes.

"Great acting," Sloan said loudly during the break. "Too bad nobody wants to hire you. I heard your husband works in... what was it? Logistics? Does he drive a truck?"

A few people snickered.

Dosha unscrewed the cap of her water bottle. She didn't respond. The NDA prevented her from correcting them. If she said My husband owns the network that airs your favorite show, she would lose the settlement.

Sloan walked past Dosha's bag and "accidentally" kicked it. Scripts spilled onto the dirty floor.

"Give it up, Dosha," Sloan sneered. "You're blacklisted. You're going to rot in the mud."

Dosha crouched down to gather the papers. "Better to rot in the mud than on a casting couch, Sloan."

Sloan's face twisted. She raised her hand.

The metal door of the basement groaned open.

Two men in black suits stepped in. They were wide, tall, and radiated menace. The room went dead silent. Sloan's hand froze in mid-air.

Then, Eleanor Stuart walked in.

She was wearing a vintage Chanel suit, cream-colored, immaculate. Her silver hair was pulled back in a severe chignon. She looked at the peeling paint on the walls, the water stains on the ceiling, and finally, at the group of aspiring actors in their sweatpants.

She looked like a queen who had stepped into a sewer.

She didn't look at Sloan. Sloan didn't exist to her.

She walked straight to Dosha. She reached out with a gloved hand and tilted Dosha's chin up.

"This is why you missed breakfast?" Eleanor asked. Her voice was soft, cultured, and terrifying. "To roll around in this... filth?"

Sloan turned pale. She stepped back, realizing she had made a terrible miscalculation.

Dosha slapped Eleanor's hand away. "This is my work, Eleanor."

Eleanor pulled a handkerchief from her purse and wiped the glove where it had touched Dosha's skin.

"Get in the car," Eleanor said. "I have a business proposition."

Dosha followed her out. She left Sloan standing there, mouth open.

A Rolls Royce Phantom was idling at the curb.

Inside, the air conditioning was set to a crisp sixty-eight degrees. Eleanor handed Dosha a blue folder.

The title read: Dissolution of Marriage & Asset Settlement Agreement.

"Casper is losing his mind over that model," Eleanor said, looking out the window at the graffiti-covered street. "It is embarrassing the family. But you... you are becoming a problem. You are becoming defiant."

"I am becoming expensive," Dosha corrected.

"Sign this," Eleanor said. "I will lift the blacklist on your acting career. I will fund your production company. And I will give you two hundred million dollars in cash."

Dosha looked at the number on the page. $200,000,000.00.

Her heart slammed against her ribs. It was freedom. It was power. It was everything.

"The only condition," Eleanor said, turning to look at her with ice-blue eyes, "is that you disappear. You leave Casper. You leave New York. You never speak the name Stuart again."

Dosha picked up the pen. The weight of it felt good in her hand.

The Billionaire's Neglected Wife Is A Genius Novel Cover

Ellyn woke to a news alert of her husband, billionaire Hardy Burnett, picking up his "mystery blonde" ex at a private terminal. Just hours earlier, he had been raw and consuming in their shared bed, but by morning, he was a cold stranger tossing a birth control pill at her. He reminded her with mechanical indifference that their marriage was a mere contract, and the Burnett family tolerated no accidental risks. The mystery woman was Izabella Macdonald, the one who got away. While Ellyn spent her mornings dabbing heavy concealer over the purple bruises Hardy left on her neck, the rest of the world was celebrating the return of the "rightful" Mrs. Burnett. To Hardy, Ellyn was a liability; to his family, she was a placeholder with a bankrupt bloodline. The humiliation peaked at a high-society gala when Hardy walked in with Izabella on his arm, leaving Ellyn to navigate the vultures alone. His mother mocked her as "cheap polyester," and socialites whispered about the penthouse Hardy was secretly buying for his mistress. Even as Hardy's jealousy flared when he saw Ellyn with his brother, his loyalty remained divided, his heart seemingly anchored to the woman in the white silk dress. The breaking point came in the pouring rain outside the venue. Hardy ordered Ellyn into the backseat of the car like common cargo so that Izabella could take the passenger seat-the seat of the partner. He expected Ellyn to sit in the shadows and watch his ex-girlfriend play wife in the front, treating her presence as a domestic inconvenience he could simply command. I stared at the man who owned my nights but despised my existence. The heavy thud of the pill I swallowed every morning felt like a lead weight, a bitter reminder that I was nothing more than a paid commodity in his eyes. He thought he knew everything about his destitute, dependent wife, from the temperature I needed the room to the way I took my tea. But Hardy didn't know about the encrypted ledgers or the offshore accounts. He didn't know that the "destitute" woman he relegated to the backseat was the secret mastermind behind Skim, the global fashion empire currently worth more than his latest merger. "I'm not getting in," I said, my voice eerily calm against the thunder. I slammed the door, turned my back on his roar of fury, and walked into the dark. It was time to stop being a ghost in his house and start being the woman who could buy his entire world.
