The office smelled faintly of polished wood and strong coffee as Jennifer walked through the glass doors, the morning sun reflecting off the skyscraper windows. The day promised a mix of mundane tasks and subtle office politics, but Jennifer's mind was preoccupied. Luke Jones.

She had replayed the events of the past week over and over in her head: the moments of tension, the subtle glances, the spark of connection that seemed to crackle whenever he was near. Jennifer laughed lightly, brushing it off. "Just thinking about the project," she said, though her pulse quickened at the thought of another interaction with Luke.

Marcus chuckled lightly, leaning casually against the table. "Of course. But you know, sometimes contributions aren't just about the work." His gaze lingered, and Jennifer felt a prick of irritation-and something else-jealousy, perhaps, or desire she didn't want to admit.

Luke stepped closer, his presence magnetic and protective. The air around him seemed to tighten, and Marcus straightened slightly, sensing the subtle tension shift.

"You have my attention," Luke said smoothly, his voice low and controlled, though a dangerous edge threaded through it. "And I suggest we focus on the work, not distractions."

He let the title linger for a fraction longer than necessary, and she noticed the subtle effect it had on him as well-his control, his distance, faltering just enough to leave space for connection.

Then, just as she was about to leave, Marcus approached again, this time with a smirk. "Looks like you two make quite the team," he said casually, eyes flicking between them. "I wonder how long it'll last."

Jennifer's pulse quickened, irritation mixing with an undeniable thrill. She met Marcus's gaze coolly. "We're professionals. That's all."

Marcus's smirk widened, but before he could respond, Luke's presence shifted. He moved slightly closer to Jennifer, subtly protective, yet without breaking professional boundaries.

"Let's focus on results, Marcus," Luke said, voice calm but firm. "That's the only thing that matters."
