He Held The Sun, Then Lost It Novel Cover

He Held The Sun, Then Lost It

Five years. Four hundred million dollars. And the wedding dress was never mine. I found out on a Tuesday—a C-list actress draped in my custom Vera Wang, hanging off my fiancé's arm. Six months of French lace. Six meters of Italian silk. Every stitch a promise I had made to myself: someone finally chose me for me. He locked the doors of that boutique. Froze my cards. Threatened my friends. Told the world I was just a delusional former assistant who didn't know her place. The internet called me crazy, a liar, a desperate woman who couldn't take a hint. His name trended everywhere. My accounts got suspended before I could say a word. What he never knew: his empire ran on my capital. His patents were mine. His executive assistant had been feeding me evidence for months—emails, recordings, a paper trail of fraud stretching back years. I dialed the encrypted phone. A voice said, "I've waited five years." "Then wait three more days," I said. "I'm going to tear his head off."

Chapter 6

Claudia Sims POV

"Claudia?" Archer Dillard's voice was low and rough, thick with sleep. I realized, with a jolt of guilt, that it must have been the middle of the night wherever he was. But the moment he heard my breathing, I knew he was awake. Fully awake. The kind of awake that comes from years of sleeping lightly, waiting for a call that might never come.

"Archer." My voice cracked on his name. I hadn't said it out loud in six years. It tasted like salt and memory. "It's time. I need legal, not muscle. He's waging a media war, and I need to counter it with facts, not firepower."

A pause. The silence on the line was heavy with everything he wasn't saying—questions he wouldn't ask, judgments he wouldn't make, a decade of patience compressed into a single breath.

"Tell me everything."

I did. The Artemis Collection. The stolen credit. The press ambush. The smear campaign. The way Ashton had grabbed my arm in the corridor, his fingers digging in, his breath hot with champagne and rage. I told him about the hotel room in the East Village, the smell of rye bread from the bakery below, the way I had stared at the ceiling all night while my reputation was torn apart by strangers on the internet.

When I finished, Archer's voice had changed. It was no longer the calm, measured tone of a business partner. It was the voice of a man preparing for battle—controlled, deliberate, and utterly without mercy.

"I'm sending a team," he said. "Not bodyguards. Lawyers. Forensic accountants. A crisis PR specialist who eats media empires for breakfast and has a Pulitzer on her shelf that she uses as a coaster. They'll be in New York by noon."

"Archer, I—"

"You don't have to say anything. You called. That's all I ever needed." Another pause, longer this time. When he spoke again, his voice was softer, threaded with something I couldn't quite name. "And Claudia? I have something he doesn't know about. Something that will make his media empire look like a house of cards in a stiff breeze."

"What?"

"A whistleblower. From inside Bowers Media. She's been feeding me information for months—emails, financial records, internal memos, recordings he was arrogant enough to make in his own office. She was waiting for the right moment. She didn't know what she was waiting for, exactly, but she knew she couldn't stay silent forever. I think this is it."

I closed my eyes. The feeling that washed over me wasn't relief. Relief was too soft, too passive. This was something colder, sharper, more precise. It was the beginning of fire. The kind of fire that doesn't just warm—it transforms.

"Send her in," I said. "Let's burn it all down."
