Chapter 2

The address led me to a towering glass building in the heart of the city—the Lycan Royal Court headquarters. My hands trembled slightly as I pushed through the revolving doors, the weight of what I was about to do settling heavy on my shoulders.

"Luna Bell for Prince Judson Ward," I told the receptionist, my voice steadier than I felt.

She nodded, her eyes widening slightly at my title. "He's expecting you. Top floor."

The elevator ride gave me a moment to compose myself. I'd researched Judson Ward extensively—the most renowned werewolf lawyer specializing in mate bond dissolutions, with a success rate that bordered on legendary. What I hadn't expected was the flutter of nerves I felt as the doors opened to his private office.

And then I smelled it—cedar and midnight rain. The scent hit me like a physical force, rich and intoxicating in a way I'd never experienced before. My wolf, silent and withdrawn since Anthony's betrayal, suddenly stirred within me.

"Michelle Bell," a deep voice said, and I looked up to meet the most intense amber eyes I'd ever seen.

Judson Ward stood behind his desk, tall and imposing in a tailored charcoal suit. Power radiated from him—not just the authority of his position as Lycan Prince, but something more primal.

"Luna Bell," he corrected himself, his voice slightly rougher than before. "Please, come in."

I stepped forward, and something electric passed between us. His nostrils flared slightly as he caught my scent, and I watched his professional composure visibly waver.

"Jasmine and moonlight," he murmured, so quietly I almost didn't hear it.

"Excuse me?" I asked, my heart racing.

"Nothing." He cleared his throat, gesturing to a chair. "Please, sit."

As I explained my situation, recounting Anthony's deception and the cruel plan he'd concocted with Yasmin, I noticed how Judson's hands clenched into fists when I described the mind-link conversations. His jaw tightened with barely contained fury.

"He made you believe you were worthless," Judson said, his voice dangerously soft. "That you were nothing without him."

I nodded, surprised by the anger flashing in his eyes—anger on my behalf.

"And now you want to dissolve the mate bond," he continued, his expression carefully controlled once more.

"Yes. Completely."

He leaned forward, his amber eyes holding mine. "I'll take your case."

---

Over the next three weeks, I met with Judson multiple times. Each session peeled back another layer of Anthony's deception, and each time, Judson's strategic mind impressed me more.

"Look at this," he said during our fourth meeting, spreading documents across his desk. "Financial records showing pack resources diverted to Yasmin's personal accounts."

I leaned closer, studying the numbers. "He was funding their future together while still mated to me."

Judson's hand brushed mine as he turned a page, and we both froze at the contact. Something sparked between us—a current of electricity that made my breath catch.

"I'm sorry," he said automatically, though he didn't look sorry at all.

"Don't be," I whispered.

That night, as we reviewed testimony from pack members who'd witnessed Anthony's true strength, the weight of everything crashed over me. Tears spilled down my cheeks before I could stop them.

"I can't—" I began, my voice breaking.

Judson moved from behind his desk with fluid grace, kneeling beside my chair. He offered a crisp handkerchief, his movements careful and controlled.

"You're incredibly strong," he said softly. "To fight back like this, to refuse to be a victim—you deserve so much better than his cruelty."

When his hand briefly touched mine to comfort me, the mate bond sparked between us with such intensity that we both gasped. His eyes darkened, pupils dilating as he stared at me.

"We should—" he began, then stopped, clearing his throat. "The evidence is overwhelming."

---

"The legal strategy is simple but effective," Judson explained during our final preparation session. "We'll file for dissolution based on fraud, emotional abuse, and conspiracy."

I nodded, impressed by the thoroughness of his approach.

"I've gathered testimony from pack members who've witnessed Anthony's true Alpha strength in private," he continued. "And these financial records are damning."

"What about the mind-link conversations?" I asked.

Judson's expression darkened. "I've obtained records of those too. The technology exists to retrieve mental communications when abuse is suspected."

I stared at him, realizing how tirelessly he'd worked on my case. Dark circles shadowed his eyes, and I wondered how many nights he'd spent building my defense.

"Thank you," I said simply.

He looked up from the documents, his gaze holding mine with an intensity that made my heart race. "Your case is... personally important to me."

"Personally important?" I repeated, something fluttering in my chest at his words.

His eyes held mine for a moment longer than necessary before he looked away, but not before I saw something there—something that made my wolf stir with recognition.
