The scent of sage and moonflower filled the ceremonial clearing as sixteen-year-old Ethan stepped into the sacred circle. My heart swelled with pride and anxiety in equal measure. Three years as his mother, watching him grow from a pup into this tall, gangly teenager, and now his Coming of Age ceremony—the moment when his wolf would finally manifest.

"Remember what we practiced," I whispered, adjusting the silver ceremonial bracelet on his wrist. "Don't fight the transformation. Let your wolf emerge naturally."

Ethan nodded, his eyes—so like Logan's—wide with nervous anticipation. "I won't let you down, Luna Rosemary."

The assembled Silverpine Pack formed a perfect ring around us, their faces illuminated by the full moon overhead. Logan stood at the head of the circle, his Alpha presence commanding and silent. I searched his face for a smile, a nod of encouragement for our son, but found only stoic impassivity.

"Ethan Pierce," Elder Helena's voice rang out, "step forward and claim your wolf."

The boy moved to the center of the circle, his shoulders squared with determination. I held my breath as he closed his eyes, his body beginning to tremble with the first waves of transformation.

Helena rose from her seat, her silver hair gleaming in the torchlight. "There is only one solution. The sacred Bloodline Verification Ritual must be performed immediately. If your bloodline is pure, the ancient moonstones will confirm it. If not..." She left the threat hanging in the air.

I stepped forward, my heart pounding so loudly I was certain everyone could hear it. Ethan stood beside me, his face pale and drawn from his failed transformation.

I placed my palms on the cool surface of the ancient moonstones. They hummed beneath my touch, pulsing with power that vibrated up my arms.

For a moment, nothing happened. Then the stones began to glow—not with the expected silver-blue of confirmation, but with a harsh, warning red.
