Chapter 4

I couldn't breathe. The weight of Donovan's betrayal crushed my chest as I stumbled away from the conference room, my vision blurring with unshed tears. His words echoed in my mind, each one a dagger to my heart.

"A paranoid, jealous Omega."

The tablet with all its damning evidence felt useless in my trembling hands. No amount of proof would ever make him see Violette for what she truly was.

I made it halfway down the corridor before my legs gave out. The polished marble floor rushed up to meet me, but I barely felt the impact. A strange wave of nausea rolled through me, followed by a dizzying spin that made the ceiling lights blur into streaks of white.

"Luna?" A concerned voice called from somewhere nearby. "Are you alright?"

I couldn't answer. Another wave of sickness hit me, this time accompanied by a burning sensation deep in my core. My skin felt too tight, too hot, as if my blood had been replaced with molten lead.

"I need... air," I gasped, pressing my palm against the cool wall to steady myself.

The pack member who had spoken—one of the younger Deltas—knelt beside me, her eyes wide with alarm. "Should I call the Alpha?"

"No!" The word came out sharper than intended. The last thing I needed was Donovan's cold contempt, or worse, Violette's false concern. "Just... help me to my quarters."

She hesitated, clearly uncertain, but eventually nodded. Her arm around my waist felt like the only thing keeping me upright as we made our slow way through the packhouse.

The small clinic in Millbrook was tucked between a bookstore and a coffee shop, its weathered sign swinging gently in the afternoon breeze. Dr. Winters had been our family physician for decades—a human who knew enough about our world to keep our secrets.

"Are you sure you're alone?" he asked, peering over his half-moon glasses as I slipped into the examination room.

I nodded, pulling my hood lower over my face. "I can't risk anyone knowing I'm here."

He didn't ask questions, just nodded and gestured for me to lie down. "What brings you in today?"

"I need a blood test," I said quietly. "For pregnancy."

His eyebrows rose slightly, but his expression remained professional. "And this is something your pack healer couldn't provide?"

I swallowed hard. "It's something I need confirmed by someone I trust."

The blood draw was quick, the waiting interminable. I sat in the small room, counting the cracks in the ceiling tiles, trying not to think about Donovan and Violette.

When Dr. Winters returned, his face told me everything before he spoke.

"Eleanora," he said gently, setting the test results on the table between us. "You're pregnant."

The words hit me like a physical blow. Pregnant. With Donovan's child. The heir to the Silverfang Pack.

"That's... impossible," I whispered. "I'm a Late Bloomer. Our wolves are supposed to be too weak for..."

"Supposed to be doesn't always match reality," he replied, his voice kind. "This happens sometimes—especially when there's a strong mate bond involved."

A bitter laugh escaped me. "Strong mate bond?"

Dr. Winters didn't press, just handed me a small bottle of prenatal vitamins. "This changes things for you, doesn't it?"

I nodded, one hand instinctively moving to my still-flat stomach. A child. My child. Donovan's heir.

---

The packhouse was quiet when I returned, most members already retired for the night. I moved like a ghost through the familiar halls, my mind racing with plans.

This baby changed everything. Despite his cruelty, despite his betrayal, Donovan was still my mate—still the father of my child. Maybe this miracle would finally awaken something in him, some protective instinct that would override his power elitism.

Maybe he would finally see me as worthy.

I paused outside his study, my hand hovering over the doorknob. The Alpha aura emanating from within made my wolf stir uneasily, but I pushed forward.

"Alpha," I called softly. "I need to speak with you. Alone."

Silence stretched for a long moment before his voice came through the door. "Enter."

I stepped inside, closing the door firmly behind me. Donovan sat behind his massive desk, his expression unreadable as he studied me.

"What is it now, Eleanora?" he asked, his tone weary. "If this is about Violette again—"

"It's not," I interrupted, my heart pounding so hard I was sure he could hear it. "It's about us. About our future."

His eyes narrowed slightly, but he gestured for me to continue.

I took a deep breath, one hand still protectively covering my stomach. Whatever happened next would change everything—not just for me, but for the innocent life now growing inside me.

"I have something to tell you," I said, my voice stronger than I expected. "Something that might change how you see me."

His expression remained skeptical, but I could see a flicker of curiosity in his eyes as I moved closer to his desk.

"I'm pregnant, Donovan," I said, the words hanging in the air between us like a challenge. "I'm carrying your heir."
