Chapter 5

I sat alone in my study, the soft lamplight casting long shadows across the walls. My private journal lay open before me, its pages filled with my careful notes and diagrams connecting every piece of evidence I'd gathered. The truth was staring back at me, more devastating than I could have imagined.

"It's not just an affair," I whispered, my finger tracing the lines I'd drawn between Sebastian, Azaria, and the mysterious financial transfers. "They're committing treason."

Luna stirred within me, her presence a low, angry growl. *They're stealing from our pack to fund a rogue army.*

I nodded, the pieces finally clicking into place. The emerald handbag, the secret meetings, the financial records—it all pointed to something far more sinister than a simple betrayal of trust.

"Five hundred thousand dollars," I murmured, staring at the figure I'd circled in red ink. "All transferred to Davis Graham's Legno Pack."

Davis—Azaria's cousin who was supposed to be dead. The one she'd tearfully told me about during those late-night conversations, claiming he'd died in a territory dispute years ago.

"A convenient lie," I said, closing my journal with a snap. "She's been working with him all along."

I leaned back in my chair, pressing my fingers to my temples. The scope of their betrayal was staggering. Sebastian and Azaria weren't just having an affair—they were systematically draining Moonridge Pack's wealth to fund Davis's rogue organization.

But why? What could they possibly gain?

Luna's voice echoed in my mind, suddenly clearer than before. *Power. They want absolute control.*

I opened my eyes, a chill running down my spine as understanding dawned. They weren't planning to leave—they were planning to stay and rule without opposition.

---

I was heading to the pack archives when Sebastian cornered me in the hallway. His tall frame blocked my path, his expression a careful mask of concern that didn't reach his eyes.

"Camila," he said, his voice soft with practiced tenderness. "We need to talk."

I kept my face neutral, though Luna snarled inside me. "About what?"

He glanced around, then lowered his voice. "I've noticed how stressed you've been lately. The pack duties are too much for you."

I nearly laughed at the irony. He was worried I was stressed while he was busy betraying me.

"I'm fine," I replied coolly.

"No, you're not." He reached into his jacket and pulled out a folder. "That's why I've prepared this."

I took the document, noting the official Moonridge Pack letterhead. "What is it?"

"A Luna Succession Agreement," he said, his tone casual as if discussing the weather. "It's just a formality, really. It would relieve some of your burdens while keeping you honored as Luna."

My eyes narrowed as I scanned the first page. "You want me to sign this today?"

"The ceremony would be the perfect time," he suggested, his smile not quite reaching his eyes. "All the pack members will be there to witness your... continued role."

I flipped through the pages, my heart pounding as I read the fine print. This wasn't a formality—it was a complete transfer of my authority. If I signed this, I would retain the title of Luna but lose my veto power, my financial oversight, and my right to attend certain meetings.

In short, I would be a figurehead while Sebastian claimed all my real power.

"You want me to give up my authority," I stated flatly.

"I want you to be happy," he countered smoothly. "This way, you can focus on the parts of being Luna that you enjoy while I handle the stressful details."

Luna growled louder now, her anger fueling mine. *He thinks we're weak. He thinks we'll break.*

---

I stared at Sebastian, watching as he waited expectantly for my response. His confidence was palpable—he truly believed I would cave under pressure.

"You're right," I said finally, touching the Luna mark on my neck as if considering his offer. "I have been stressed lately."

Relief washed over his features, quickly masked by his concerned expression. "I'm glad you see it that way."

"I'll sign it," I added softly.

His eyes lit up with triumph poorly disguised as relief. "Really? That's... wonderful, Camila."

"At the Pack Ceremony," I continued, watching his reaction carefully. "It would be more formal that way, don't you think?"

"Perfect," he agreed, unable to hide his satisfaction now. "The whole pack can witness your continued important role."

I nodded, lowering my eyes to hide the golden flash that suddenly ignited in them—a brief spark of the dormant Alpha power awakening within me.

"Thank you for understanding," Sebastian said, reaching out to squeeze my hand.

I let him, though every instinct screamed at me to recoil from his touch.

As he walked away, whistling softly with victory, I allowed myself a small smile. He thought he'd won this round.

He had no idea what was coming next.
