Chapter 2

Three days had passed since that confrontation in the kitchen. Three days of Jonathan's increasingly desperate attempts to gaslight me, to convince me I was losing my mind. Three days of sleeping in separate rooms while the jasmine scent seemed to follow him everywhere.

I stood before the ornate doors of the Pack Council chambers, my hands steady despite the storm raging inside me. The formal declaration I carried felt heavier than it should—a single sheet of parchment that would change everything.

"I, Aurora Harrison, Luna of the Silvermoon Pack, formally request the dissolution of my mate bond with Alpha Jonathan Marshall," I announced as I entered the chamber where three Council Elders sat in judgment.

Elder Elena Winters, her silver hair gleaming under the ceremonial lights, accepted the document with grave solemnity. "This is a serious matter, Luna Harrison. The rejection of a mate bond, particularly between an Alpha and Luna, requires careful consideration."

"I understand the gravity," I replied, my voice carrying across the chamber. "But I cannot remain bound to a mate who has betrayed the sacred trust between us."

The heavy doors burst open behind me. Jonathan stormed in, his face twisted with fury, his Alpha aura crackling around him like a visible force.

"This is madness!" His voice boomed through the chamber, making the younger wolves present instinctively bow their heads. "Aurora, you will withdraw this ridiculous request immediately."

I turned to face him, feeling Aria bristle within me at his commanding tone. "I will not."

"You WILL." The Alpha command hit me like a physical blow, his aura pressing down on me with crushing weight. Around us, pack members who had gathered to witness the proceedings gasped as I was forced to my knees by the sheer power of his dominance.

But even as my body betrayed me, bending under his authority, my spirit remained unbroken. "Using your Alpha power against your own mate," I managed through gritted teeth, "in front of the Pack Council, no less. How fitting."

The shame in the Elders' eyes as they witnessed this abuse was almost as painful as Jonathan's betrayal itself. Elder Winters stood, her voice cutting through the tension. "Alpha Marshall, you will cease this display immediately. The use of Alpha dominance against one's mate in Council chambers is forbidden."

Jonathan's aura flickered, his control wavering as he realized what he'd done. The damage was already complete—every wolf present had witnessed him abuse his power against me, their Luna.

As I struggled to my feet, the chamber doors opened again. Gabrielle Porter entered, carrying what appeared to be routine pack documents, her warrior's uniform pristine, her expression carefully neutral.

"Forgive the interruption," she said sweetly, her voice dripping false innocence. "I have the monthly security reports for review."

But her eyes found mine across the room, and I saw the triumph glittering there. She was enjoying this—my public humiliation, my pain.

The Elders dismissed the formal session, postponing the mate bond hearing until tempers could cool. As the chamber emptied, I found myself alone with Gabrielle, Jonathan having stormed out in his fury.

"Poor Aurora," Gabrielle said, dropping her innocent facade like a discarded mask. "Did that hurt? Being forced to your knees by your own mate?"

I straightened, meeting her gaze directly. "What do you want, Gabrielle?"

She laughed, a sound like breaking glass. "Want? I already have what I want." Her fingers moved to her throat, and my blood turned to ice. There, hanging from a delicate chain, was my family's wolf pendant—a priceless heirloom passed down through generations of my bloodline.

"You recognize it, don't you?" She fingered the pendant lovingly. "Jonathan gave it to me last week. Said it looked better on someone who actually deserved to wear it."

The theft of my family's most sacred possession was a violation beyond words. That pendant had been blessed by Moon Goddess herself, meant to be worn only by the women of my lineage.

"He told me everything, you know," Gabrielle continued, circling me like a predator. "How cold you've become. How you refuse his touch. How you make him feel like a stranger in his own home." She leaned closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. "He comes to me for warmth, Aurora. For passion. For everything you can't give him."

*Aurora,* my best friend's voice suddenly filled my mind through our pack link, urgent and clear. *I'm watching from the eastern tower. Jonathan never left for patrol last night. He went straight to Gabrielle's quarters at midnight and didn't leave until dawn.*

The mind-link evidence hit me like a physical blow, but also like vindication. My friend's surveillance abilities had always been exceptional, and her loyalty absolute.

*I have more,* she continued through our connection. *Photos, timestamps, everything. He's been there every night this week.*

Gabrielle was still talking, still taunting, but her words faded into background noise as the full scope of their deception crystallized in my mind. This wasn't just an affair—it was a calculated campaign to destroy me, to steal everything I held sacred.

I looked at her wearing my pendant, standing in the Council chambers where she'd just witnessed my public humiliation, and felt something cold and final settle in my chest.

"Enjoy it while you can," I said quietly, turning toward the door.

Behind me, I heard her sharp intake of breath, as if she'd expected tears or rage instead of this calm resolve.

She had no idea what was coming.
