Chapter 3

The morning light felt different as I sat at my vanity, staring at my reflection in the ornate mirror Leo had given me for our fifth anniversary. My fingers traced the empty hollow of my throat where my Luna ceremonial necklace should rest—the sacred piece embedded with moonstone from our first territory, crafted specifically for my Luna ceremony years ago.

It had been missing for three days.

I'd searched everywhere, turning our bedroom upside down, checking every jewelry box, every drawer. The necklace wasn't just an accessory; it was a symbol of my Luna status, blessed by our pack's elders and infused with the spiritual energy of our bond. Without it, I felt incomplete, as if a piece of my very soul had been carved away.

My wolf stirred uneasily within me, her anxiety matching my own. *Something is wrong,* she whimpered. *The sacred bond feels... fractured.*

A soft knock interrupted my thoughts. "Luna Lily?" Crystal's voice carried through the door, unusually strained.

"Come in," I called, not bothering to hide the exhaustion in my voice.

Crystal entered slowly, her face pale and drawn. She held something clutched in her trembling fist, and the scent of her distress filled the room like smoke.

"Lily, I... I need to show you something." Her voice cracked on the words. "From the pack gathering yesterday."

My stomach dropped. I'd been too sick with morning sickness to attend the monthly territorial meeting, something that had never happened in my ten years as Luna.

"What is it?" I stood slowly, my legs unsteady.

Crystal opened her hand, revealing her phone. The screen showed a photo from yesterday's gathering—pack members mingling, sharing food, the usual community bonding. But in the background, near the ceremonial fire, stood Amora Martinez.

And around her neck, gleaming in the firelight, was my Luna necklace.

The world tilted. I gripped the edge of my vanity, my knuckles white against the dark wood. "No," I whispered, the word barely audible. "That's not possible."

"I'm so sorry, Lily." Crystal's voice broke completely. "I couldn't believe it either. She was wearing it like... like it belonged to her. Laughing with the other she-wolves, acting as if she had every right."

My wolf let out a howl of pure anguish that echoed through my very bones. The sacred necklace, blessed for my Luna ceremony, given to another she-wolf. The betrayal cut deeper than any physical wound could.

"Where did she get it?" The question came out as a growl, my Luna authority bleeding through despite my shattered state.

Crystal's silence was answer enough.

I stumbled toward Leo's dresser, my hands shaking as I pulled open drawer after drawer. In the bottom drawer, hidden beneath his winter sweaters, my fingers found a small velvet box I'd never seen before. Inside lay another necklace—identical to mine in every way, down to the sacred moonstone centerpiece.

Two necklaces. One original, one duplicate.

The room spun as the full weight of Leo's betrayal crashed over me. He hadn't lost my necklace. He'd had a copy made—a perfect replica of the sacred piece that marked me as his Luna—and given it to his chosen mate.

My wolf retreated completely, curling into the deepest recesses of my mind like a wounded animal seeking shelter. The sudden absence of her presence left me hollow, disconnected from the spiritual power that had always been my foundation. My Luna aura flickered and dimmed until it was barely a whisper of what it should be.

"Lily?" Crystal reached for me, but I stepped back.

"Leave me," I whispered, my voice empty of all emotion. "Please."

She hesitated, then nodded and slipped out quietly, leaving me alone with the evidence of my mate's ultimate betrayal.

I don't know how long I stood there, staring at the duplicate necklace, before Leo's footsteps echoed in the hallway. He entered our bedroom with his usual confident stride, but stopped short when he saw me holding the velvet box.

"Lily, I can explain—"

"Explain?" I turned to face him, and he actually stepped back at whatever he saw in my expression. "Explain how you took the sacred necklace from my Luna ceremony—the one blessed by our elders, the one that symbolizes our mate bond—and gave it to another she-wolf?"

"It's not what you think." His voice was strained, desperate. "I had it copied because—"

"Because you wanted to play Luna with your chosen mate?" The words came out flat, emotionless. "Because our sacred bond means so little to you that you'd desecrate it for her?"

"Lily, please." He reached for me, but I held up the duplicate necklace between us like a shield.

"Choose," I said quietly. "Right now. Choose between your fated mate blessed by the Moon Goddess, and the rogue who's destroying everything we built."

Leo's face crumpled. He ran his hands through his hair, pacing to the window and back. "It's not that simple. I... I care about you both. I love you both in different ways."

The words hit me like a physical blow. After everything—after ten years of sacrifice, of building this pack together, of sharing a bond blessed by the Moon Goddess herself—he thought he could love us both.

"You don't understand," I whispered, the last of my strength draining away. "You don't understand what sacred means at all."
