Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the King Chapter 1

The night air carried a chill as I stepped onto the ceremonial grounds, my heart fluttering with anticipation. Tomorrow, I would officially become Luna of the Crescent Ridge Pack, bound forever to Alejandro Wells. Months of preparation had led to this moment—every detail carefully chosen to honor our ancestors and the Moon Goddess herself.

"I need to check everything one last time," I murmured to my mother, who walked beside me.

"You've already checked three times," Diana James replied with a gentle smile. "But I understand. A Luna's ceremony is sacred."

The ceremonial grounds should have glowed with the soft light of blessed candles arranged in the ancient pattern of the moon phases. Instead, I found... this.

My steps faltered as I took in the sight before me. "What happened here?"

The sacred Luna blessing stones—ancient crystals that had been passed down through generations of Lunas—were gone. In their place sat ordinary decorative rocks painted with cheap gold spray paint. The traditional moonlight altar had been moved from its alignment with the celestial north, destroying the sacred geometry that had channeled the Moon Goddess's blessing for centuries.

"Who authorized this?" My voice came out steadier than I felt.

One of the pack decorators avoided my gaze. "Alpha Alejandro said the old ways were too... outdated. He wanted something more modern."

Modern. The word cut through me like a silver blade. These weren't just decorations—they were sacred traditions that connected us to our wolf heritage.

"Where are the blessing stones?" I demanded.

"We... we're not sure," another decorator admitted. "Alpha said they were being stored somewhere safe."

My mother's hand tightened around mine. "Aaliyah, perhaps we should speak with Alejandro before—"

"No." The word came out sharper than intended. "I need to understand what happened here first."

I strode toward the surveillance room adjacent to the ceremonial grounds. As the future Luna, I had access to all pack surveillance systems. My fingers trembled slightly as I pulled up the footage from earlier today.

The screen showed Alejandro entering with Milana Lopez at his side. My stomach twisted at the sight of them together—her hand possessively on his arm, his familiar smile directed at her instead of me.

"Zoom in on their conversation," I instructed the system.

The audio came through clearly: "You'll look stunning in it," Alejandro was saying. "Much better than that stick Aaliyah would ever look."

Milana giggled. "Are you sure she won't find out?"

"She's too busy with her precious traditions to notice anything else."

I watched in growing horror as they entered the future Luna quarters—my private space that no one but my mate should enter before the ceremony. Alejandro produced a key he shouldn't have had and unlocked the ceremonial gown case.

"Go ahead," he urged. "Try it on."

Milana's eyes lit with triumph as she lifted my sacred gown—the garment blessed by the pack elders, infused with protective magic that would bind me to my mate and pack. The dress that no other she-wolf should ever touch according to our most ancient laws.

She slipped into my gown, twirling before the mirror. "How do I look?"

"Beautiful," Alejandro replied, his eyes hungry. "Like a true Luna."

Something broke inside me then—not just my heart, but my faith in everything I'd believed about our future together.

I turned away from the screen, my decision already made.

"Mother," I said quietly, "gather the pack council members. Now."

Within twenty minutes, both packs—mine and Alejandro's—had assembled in the ceremonial clearing. Confused murmurs rippled through the crowd as I took my place at the center, my spine straight and my eyes fixed on the horizon.

Alejandro pushed through the gathering, Milana trailing behind him. "What's going on? Why did you call everyone here?"

I met his gaze without flinching. "Because there's something you should know before tomorrow's ceremony."

"Aaliyah," he started, his tone placating, "whatever it is—"

"I know what you did." My voice rang clear across the clearing. "I know you changed our sacred ceremony without my consent."

He blinked, clearly trying to gauge how much I knew.

"And I know what you did with Milana in my quarters."

The crowd fell silent. Even the night birds seemed to hold their breath.

"Aaliyah, listen—" he began.

"No." I cut him off, stepping forward. The ancient words rose to my lips without prompting. "I, Aaliyah James, reject you, Alejandro Wells, Alpha of Crescent Ridge Pack, as my mate."

Gasps echoed around us. A formal rejection—especially before a marking ceremony—was rare and devastating.

"Aaliyah, don't be ridiculous," he hissed, grabbing for my arm.

I stepped back, beyond his reach. "The ceremony is canceled. Our bond is broken."

His face contorted with rage and disbelief. Behind him, Milana's expression shifted from shock to something darker—something that looked almost like satisfaction.

As the moonlight bathed the clearing in silver light, I stood alone but unbowed. The future I had planned was crumbling before my eyes, but in its place, something new was taking shape—something I couldn't yet see clearly, but could feel stirring in my blood like the first whisper of change.
