Chapter 1

Lycan Prince Leo chose me as his mate because he admired my quiet, unassuming nature.

He made me promise that if my sister, Capri, ever returned, I would step aside and relinquish my position as his Luna.

But what he didn’t understand was that my refusal to compete was, in itself, the fiercest form of competition.

After the mark ceremony, I dedicated myself entirely to him, both in pack affairs and within the royal den.

I nearly lost my life for him more than once.

When Capri finally returned, I honored our agreement. I removed the Luna’s ceremonial attire and handed over the moonstone pendant, the symbol of the Luna’s authority.

Yet, as I stood there, ready to step back, I saw the hesitation flicker in his eyes.

---

My mother, Zhuri Hernandez, was a pawn carefully selected by Luna Angie Carr to undermine my father’s chosen mate.

She was breathtakingly beautiful and exceptionally talented, a Beta from a noble pack—enough to captivate my father’s heart.

It was at the height of his infatuation with her that Luna Angie gave her a potion, one that preserved her beauty but carried a deadly poison.

Luna Angie wanted my mother to follow the path of the legendary Beta who, on her deathbed, left behind only her most radiant memory.

My mother was to die, and the trap for the chosen mate had already been laid.

True to the plan, my mother’s death sent my father into a rage. He investigated relentlessly, and the chosen mate, who had enjoyed nearly a decade of favor, was brutally punished and exiled from the pack.

Her offspring, too, fell out of favor, banished to the outskirts of the pack’s territory.

Luna Angie achieved her goal with precision, striking down two birds with one stone.

She had promised my mother that she would take me in, and with a few well-timed tears, she effortlessly claimed me as her own.

I was raised as the pack’s second-born daughter, given the status of a true daughter of the Alpha.

She gained a sterling reputation and won my father’s unwavering affection.

It was a masterstroke, a move so cunning it left her kneeling before the moon altar, weeping and laughing like a madwoman, thanking the Moon Goddess for her victory.
