Rejected for an Heir: The Barren Luna's Secret

My husband, the Alpha, told me the pack needed an heir, and since I was "barren," he had found a solution. Her name was Aria. She smelled like artificial vanilla and rotting peaches. Alex claimed she was just a surrogate, a vessel to carry his bloodline. Yet, he moved her into the nursery I had prepared for our own children. He let her wear the Luna's silver gown to the Moon Festival, an honor reserved only for me. When she staged a fall and blamed me, Alex used his Alpha Command to force me to my knees, humiliating me in front of the entire pack. He even drained his own life-force to give her a blood transfusion for a fake illness, ignoring my warnings that it would weaken the pack. He looked at me with cold hatred, calling me a broken human, while he groomed her publicly like a mate. I realized then that he didn't just want a child. He wanted to replace me. So, when his father handed him a stack of "business documents" to sign, Alex didn't read the fine print. He thought he was protecting his assets for his new future. He didn't realize he had just signed our divorce papers. I cleaned my scent from the house, left my ring on the table, and boarded a jet to Paris. Alex thinks I'm visiting a sick cousin. Rejected for an Heir: The Barren Luna's Secret Chapter 1

He doesn't know I've left forever.

And he certainly doesn't know that the moment I severed our bond, my "dormant" wolf finally woke up.

Chapter 1

Kat POV:

The sterilization of the medical wing always smelled like despair and antiseptic, but today, it smelled like my end.

"I am sorry, Luna Katarina," Dr. Evans said, avoiding my eyes. He was a Beta, and his inability to hold my gaze told me everything. "Your wolf... she is not just dormant. The tests confirm a complete lack of spiritual resonance. Biologically, you are human. You cannot carry an Alpha pup. The energy required would kill you."

I sat on the cold examination table, gripping the edge until my knuckles turned white. Outside, the Blood Moon Pack was preparing for the autumn hunt, vibrant and alive. Inside, I was a hollow shell. A vessel that had failed its only purpose.

"The Elders have been informed," a deep voice rumbled from the doorway.

I didn't need to turn around. Alexander. My mate. The Alpha. His scent used to calm me—deep forests and storm-charged air—but lately, it was tainted.

"Alex," I whispered, sliding off the table. "We can try other ways. The Moon Goddess doesn't make mistakes."

Alex stepped into the room. Shoulders broad enough to carry our criminal empire, but eyes cold. Calculating.

"The Pack needs an heir, Kat," he said, voice flat. "A strong heir. Not a human child. The bloodline must be preserved."

He stepped aside.

She was petite, with cascading blonde hair and wide, innocent eyes. But the smell hit me like a physical blow. Cloying, artificial sweetness. Vanilla extract dumped over rotting peaches. It was a perfume chemically engineered to mimic the pheromones of a high-ranking Omega in heat.

"This is Aria," Alex said, placing a possessive hand on her lower back.

My stomach churned. The mate bond in my chest pulled tight, vibrating with a warning.

"Why is she here?"

"She is compatible," Alex stated. "The Elders and I have agreed. She will be the surrogate. She will carry the Alpha blood that you cannot."

Aria stepped forward, offering a shy smile that didn't reach her eyes. "It's an honor to serve the Alpha, Luna Katarina."

Bile rose in my throat. My inner wolf, silent for years, stirred. She didn't growl; she whimpered.

"You're bringing a mistress into the Pack House?" I looked directly at my husband.

"She is a vessel, nothing more," Alex dismissed. "Once the pup is weaned, she will be compensated and removed. She will become a Rogue. You are my Luna, Kat. This changes nothing about your status."

Nothing about my status? You are replacing me in the only way that matters to the pack.

"Take her to the guest wing," Alex commanded a guard.

"Actually," Aria piped up, her voice grating, "The Alpha said I should be close by. For the baby's safety. The room next to the Master Suite?"

I looked at Alex. The room next to ours was the nursery. Sacred ground.

Alex didn't look at me. "Fine. Get settled."

As they walked away, the connection snapped. Not the bond, but the trust. I reached out through the Mind-Link.

Alex, please. Don't do this. It's our anniversary tomorrow.

The link remained silent. Then, a wall slammed down. He blocked me. But just before it closed, a stray thought leaked through, unguarded and raw.

Her body... it smells fertile. Unlike the barren wasteland I come home to.

I gasped, clutching my chest. He didn't just want an heir. He wanted her.

That night, the bed was cold. Alex didn't come home. "Patrolling the borders," he claimed, but the pack link buzzed with whispers. I walked down the hallway, stopping outside the nursery door.

Ajar.

Inside, on the rocking chair I had bought three years ago, lay a fur coat. Cheap, synthetic, reeking of that artificial vanilla.

She had been here. In my sanctuary.

I continued to the kitchen. As I passed the Alpha's study, I heard voices.

"You promise?" Aria's voice was a purr.

"Once the brat is born," Alex's voice was low, husky. "We send Kat to the countryside estate. For her 'health'. You can have the Lake Villa. It's fitting for the mother of the future Alpha."

I froze. The Lake Villa was where Alex had proposed. Where we carved our names into the ancient oak.

My hand went to my neck, touching the mating mark that had faded because he never completed the Soul Bond. Now I knew why. Keeping his options open.

I didn't cry. The pain was too deep. It felt like a silver blade twisting in my gut.

I returned to my room and opened the emergency kit. Inside was a silver scalpel.

I didn't cut my skin. I looked in the mirror. Pale, tired, defeated. But deep in my eyes, something flickered. A tiny spark of gold in a sea of brown.

"I reject this," I whispered. "I reject being a ghost in my own life."

I pulled out my phone. I didn't call my parents. I dialed a number unused for five years.

"Donato," I said when the line connected. "It's time."
