Chapter 3

The Lycan King's penthouse suite stretched before me like something from another world. Floor-to-ceiling windows revealed the glittering capital city below, while plush carpets and elegant furnishings marked a stark contrast to the threadbare cot I'd left behind at Silvercrest.

"This will be your home now," Dominic said, his voice carrying that same measured authority I'd come to appreciate. "The east wing is yours to use as you wish."

I ran my fingers along a marble countertop, still unable to believe this was real. "I don't understand why you chose me."

Dominic's silver-threaded hair caught the light as he turned to face me. "The Moon Goddess doesn't make mistakes, Victoria. Neither do I."

The next morning, he led me to a private training arena in the building's lower level. "Your wolf is awake now," he said, handing me a pair of sparring gloves. "But she needs to be strengthened."

I stared at the gloves in confusion. "You want me to fight?"

"I want you to become who you were meant to be." His eyes held mine steadily. "Not a delicate flower to be protected, but a warrior worthy of standing beside the Lycan throne."

For weeks, we trained daily. My muscles screamed in protest as Dominic pushed me beyond what I thought possible. But something inside me—my wolf—grew stronger with each session.

"Again," he commanded after I failed to block a strike from his trainer. "Your wolf is stronger than you know. Let her guide you."

I closed my eyes, feeling the stirrings deep within me. When I opened them again, the world looked different—sharper, clearer.

"Shift," Dominic said simply.

The change came like wildfire through my veins. Bones cracked and reformed as fur erupted across my skin. The transformation was painful but exhilarating.

When it was complete, I stood on four legs, my senses heightened beyond anything I'd experienced before. The trainers stepped back, their expressions a mixture of shock and respect.

"Silver-tipped fur," one whispered. "Like the royal line."

Dominic's smile was proud but not surprised. "I told you the Moon Goddess doesn't make mistakes."

---

Eight years passed in a blur of political meetings, territorial disputes, and gradual acceptance into Lycan society. My role evolved from companion to advisor to something more intimate.

On a crisp autumn night, Dominic took my hand as we stood on the balcony overlooking the city. "These years with you have been the most peaceful of my long life," he said quietly.

I leaned against him, no longer the frightened omega but a woman who had found her strength. "You gave me freedom when I had none."

"And you gave me purpose when I'd grown weary of immortality." His lips found mine in a kiss that still sent sparks through my veins.

Months later, I held our daughter Celeste for the first time, marveling at her silver-threaded hair—a mark of her royal Lycan heritage.

"She's perfect," Dominic whispered, his finger tracing her tiny cheek.

As years passed, reports from Silvercrest filtered through our intelligence network. The pack was declining under Lucien's erratic leadership. He refused to take another mate, his obsession with our severed bond consuming him.

"Alpha Hayes has been seen wandering the borders alone," Elena reported during one council meeting. "His wolf has grown thin and aggressive."

Layla's position grew increasingly precarious as her Luna status—never blessed by a true mate bond—began to crumble. Without Lucien's support, she relied on fear and manipulation to maintain control.

I felt nothing but distant pity for them both.

---

The invitation arrived on embossed cardstock, the seal of the Great Territorial Hunting Summit gleaming in gold.

"This is mandatory for all packs," Dominic said, setting it beside my breakfast plate. "North American leaders will gather to discuss boundaries and alliances."

I traced the elaborate lettering with my fingertip. "Silvercrest will be there."

"Yes." His hand covered mine. "Are you ready to face them?"

I touched the unmarked spot on my neck where Lucien's claim should have been. The phantom pain had long since faded, replaced by something stronger—pride in what I'd built from the ashes of his betrayal.

"They threw away a wolfless omega," I said softly. "I think it's time they met the Lycan Queen."

Dominic's eyes glowed with approval. "Then we leave tomorrow."

As I rose to prepare for our journey, I caught my reflection in the mirror—straight-backed, clear-eyed, powerful. No trace remained of the broken girl who had fled Silvercrest eight years ago.

Lucien Hayes had tried to destroy me. Instead, he had created his own worst nightmare—a woman who had defied destiny itself.

And now, I was coming home.
