Chapter 2

The force of Reed's Alpha command crashed into me like a physical blow. My knees hit the floor hard as his dominance pressed down on my shoulders, forcing me into a humiliating bow before the entire pack.

"How dare you question my loyalty?" Reed's voice thundered through the hall, his Alpha tone making several pack members flinch. "After everything I've given you—everything our pack has provided—you throw your allegiance to my Beta?"

I struggled to breathe under the weight of his dominance. Five years of devotion, countless resources, and this was how he saw me? As someone who could easily betray him?

"I didn't mean—" I tried to explain, but Reed's hand shot out, gripping my chin painfully.

"Silence!" he snarled, his eyes flashing dangerously. "You've embarrassed yourself enough for one night."

The pack watched in stunned silence. Some looked away uncomfortably, while others stared with undisguised curiosity. I caught my mother's pained expression from across the room, her hand pressed against her mouth.

"Alpha," a steady voice cut through the tension. "I believe Luna Brielle was simply confused about protocol."

Atlas stepped forward, his tall frame positioning itself slightly between Reed and me. The gesture was subtle but unmistakable—a shield.

Reed's eyes narrowed dangerously. "Are you defending her mistake, Beta?"

"I'm suggesting there was no intentional disrespect," Atlas replied evenly, though I could see the tension in his shoulders. "Luna Brielle has always been loyal to our pack."

The air crackled with tension as Alpha and Beta faced off. I'd never seen anyone challenge Reed's authority before, especially not over me.

"Careful, Atlas," Reed warned, his voice dropping to a dangerous growl. "Remember your place."

Atlas didn't back down. "My place is to serve our pack's best interests. And humiliating our Luna in front of guests isn't that."

Reed's aura flared violently, but Elder Samuel cleared his throat loudly. "Perhaps we should continue this discussion privately," he suggested, his weathered face grave.

Reed finally released me with a shove that sent me stumbling backward. "Take her to her chambers," he ordered a nearby pack member. "I'll deal with this later."

---

My hands trembled as I locked the door to my private chambers. Tears streamed down my face, but beneath the hurt, something else was building—a slow-burning anger I'd suppressed for too long.

I sank onto the edge of my bed, trying to steady my breathing. That's when I noticed Reed's tablet on the nightstand—he must have left it there earlier.

A notification blinked on the screen: "Victoria: Can't wait for our private meeting tonight."

My blood ran cold. With shaking fingers, I unlocked the tablet using the code I'd seen him enter countless times.

What I found made my stomach twist into knots.

Messages. Dozens of them. From Victoria Sterling. From other she-wolves I didn't recognize. Romantic messages. Plans for secret meetings.

"You're the only one who understands me," read one from a she-wolf named Cassandra. "When can we meet again?"

"Soon," Reed had replied. "My mate is traveling to visit her mother next week. We'll have plenty of time."

Gift receipts. Jewelry purchases. Hotel bookings.

And worse—fake identities. Reed had created alternate profiles to communicate with these women, hiding his true identity as mated Alpha.

My hands shook so badly I nearly dropped the tablet. Five years of devotion, and he'd been betraying our mate bond the entire time.

---

"You went through my personal belongings?" Reed's voice was deadly quiet as he leaned against his desk in the Alpha office.

I stood before him, tablet in hand, my evidence laid bare. "I found your secret relationships. All of them."

Reed's expression didn't change. No guilt. No shame. Just cold calculation.

"You've been using fake identities to pursue other she-wolves," I continued, my voice stronger than I expected. "You've violated our mate bond."

"Our bond is strong," he replied dismissively. "Strong enough to handle your little... discoveries."

"It's sacred," I insisted, stepping closer. "Or it should be."

Reed's eyes flashed, and suddenly his Alpha aura filled the room, pressing against me like a physical force. "You will forget what you found," he commanded, his Alpha tone vibrating through my bones. "You will submit to me as you always have."

I felt the familiar compulsion to obey, the mate bond urging me to comply with his command. But something was different now.

"No," I said quietly.

Reed's eyebrows shot up in shock. "What did you say?"

"I said no." I straightened my spine, meeting his gaze directly. "I won't submit to this anymore."

His face darkened with fury. "You forget your place, Luna."

"And you forget what a mate bond should be," I countered, my voice growing stronger with each word.

Reed moved toward me then, his intentions clear in the dangerous gleam of his eyes. "Perhaps I need to remind you of your duties."

As he reached for me, I realized with startling clarity that the man I'd devoted five years of my life to was willing to use our sacred bond to force my compliance—and I was finally ready to fight back.
