Chapter 2

THREE DAYS LATER

LILA

Sebastian really kept to his promise, leaving me here on this cell to rot.

Not once has a guard or a maid come to offer me anything.

Whenever they came around, they would torture, beat me, insulting me and accusing me for things I didn't do.

I've been so thirsty that I had no choice but to drink the water dripping from the ceiling. Now I sit surrounded by my vomit, falling sick from the dirt in the water.

Goddess please you can take me now, I say in my head,it would have been better if they fed me to the dogs at least I would have been at peace.

"Miss Lila, are you still here ?" a small feminine voice I recognize calls out and surprise fills me.

"Oh Miss Lila, thank goddess, I thought you had died already !" A maid I remember as Eloise kneels next to my cell.

"You shouldn't be here Eloise, why are you risking your life? "

"Don't worry about that Miss, the guards have been called upon by the Alpha and this is the only time you have to make a run for it. " she says as she hands me a small loaf of bread.

I gulp it down in two bites like a starved animal and give her a grateful smile.

"Thank you so much," I say, wiping my mouth, as my hunger eases.

"No need to thank me Miss, I remember everything your family did for me, consider this your repayment." she says as she unlocks my cell door.

"Good bye Miss, please stay safe," she says as she hurriedly leaves, not giving me the opportunity to thank her well.

Rising to my feet, I walk on my tiptoes as softly as I can until I'm out of my cell and make a run for it.

•••

I run until my feet hurt but I don't stop because stopping means getting caught and I can't risk that.

I know that I haven't covered a long distance yet because I'm not like other members of my pack that have their wolves. All I have is my human strength so I try my best to make it count.

I finally catch my breath when I see a sign post welcoming me to Northampton ville, the neighboring pack city.

During the time of my escape, I hatched a plan to start afresh and find a job, any job that could accept me I am willing to take on to survive.

"Good day Madam, please I'm searching for a job." I greet as I walk into an empty bar, addressing the lady in front of the counter.

She looks up from the book her nose was stuck in and her lips twist into a grimace as she eyes me, regarding my appearance.

I didn't even notice the stains on my dress and tearsI got. They were the least of my worries and I just hoped the lady would give me a shot.

"Weren't you taught that you should look presentable when applying for a job ? You didn't even bother to use some perfume ! "

"I'm sorry ma'am I coul-"

" Save your useless apology," she says, pushing me towards the bathroom.

"You will work days in the bathrooms and nights as a prostitute, one wrong move and I will throw you back in the gutters where you belong."

•••

The next day I start working and I'm thankful that I'm given a room to stay in the servants quarters.

It is small with a tiny bed but definitely better than rotting in a cell.

I was given a uniform to wear for the day time and three sets of skimpy corsets, some makeup and high heels for the night time and I quickly shrug into them when I hear a bang on my room door before it is flung open.

"Girl! Why are you still here keeping my clients waiting ? If you waste more time, you're going back to the streets that you belong to!" my boss says.

"Yes Madam, I was just dressing to-" I'm unable to complete my sentence due to the slap that she plasters on my cheeks before pulling me out forcefully.

I swallow my gasp and force my eyes to remain dry, it's either this or rotting in a cell, I remind myself.

"You're talking back to me? One more stupid excuse and you're out of here."

My gaze remains on the floor as she pulls me towards a room that reeks of alcohol.

"Why did it take you so long to fetch my pet for the night, Pen?" the  handsome man sitting in the middle of the room asks. His gaze roams my features hungrily, zoning in on the swell of my breasts.

Sweat cascades down my spine and my gaze finds the floor as bile rises in my throat.

"I'm so sorry Beta Arden, we had some issues but she's here now, I promise she'll be worth your time." Pen bows and throws me a warning glance before leaving the room.

" Is this how you greet your Beta? Where are your manners, young lady?" Beta Arden asks as he fills the space between us, handling a fist full of my hair and forcing me to my knees.

"I'm sorry ... " I choke out. Knowing what will happen if i don't do what he wants and give him what he wants from me tonight.

In a split second, his trousers are off and his already swollen dick springs free. He grips my head so tight that it starts to pound as he shoves his manhood into my mouth, pumping relentlessly and in no time, he spills himself into my mouth.

I pull my head forcefully from his grip and spill the contents of my mouth on the floor.

"Stupid bitch, who gave you the right to pull away ?" he growls, he punches my jaw which sends me flying across the floor.

The clerk at the Registry couldn't look me in the eye when she turned the screen around. My status didn't say "Luna" anymore. It said "Rogue." My mate, Alpha Jackson, had secretly replaced me on the official paperwork three years ago with his mistress, Candida. When I returned to the Pack House, Jackson didn't just bring Candida home; he brought a five-year-old boy he claimed was an orphan. "This is Joey," he announced, his eyes cold and glazed over. "Since you are barren, he will be the future Alpha." I tried to accept my fate as a servant in my own home, but they wanted me dead. The boy, looking like an angel, brought me a bowl of soup. "For you, Mama," he smiled. But as I reached for it, he splashed the scalding liquid over my hands. It wasn't just hot soup. It was laced with concentrated Wolfsbane. As my skin sizzled and peeled, the boy threw himself on the floor, screaming that I had attacked him. Jackson didn't check my burns. He didn't listen to my pleas. "Submit!" he roared, using the Alpha Command to force me to my knees. He made me apologize to the child who had just poisoned me. That night, listening to Jackson mate with Candida in the room next to mine, the bond finally snapped. They wanted the Luna gone? Fine. I dialed a number I hadn't used in years. "Hamilton," I whispered to the Lycan King. "I need a plane. And I need it to crash."
