Chapter 6

LILA

I land in the ground in a thud just as I hear a crack on my back and blinding pain courses through my body.

"what the heck Andrea?" I gasp.

"Relax girl, have you forgotten that you have me now ? a small fall isn't something you can't recover from in a few minutes." My wolf whispers in my mind and just as the pain disappears.

"You're so dramatic Lila, I only did that to test your wolf strength." Andrea rolls her eyes walking towards me.

If not for my wolf, I would have thought Andrea wanted to kill me because not too long ago I was wolfless so it's going to take some time for me to adjust to my new strength.

"A heads up would be nice next time," I huff dusting dirt from my dress.

Andrea smirks, "Girl, you need to always be prepared if you are going to win the contest and avenge your family. This was nothing."

I know for a fact that she was right, even my wolf agreed with her so I'm going to buckle up cause I must win this contest.

SEBASTIAN

I stare unimpressed at the pack Elders that my mom convinced me it was a good idea to invite them for dinner.

They have been emphasizing the importance of the Luna contest and having a bride is the only way for me to get my inheritance like I haven't been hearing this since I was in diapers.

"Honey, I hope you're listening to the Elders, they give the best advice," my mom says, stroking my hand.

I force a smile to my face, "Of course mum."

The smile disappears when Elder Nicolas starts to speak again and I have to force the urge back to roll my eyes.

"You know what this pack values and everything we stand for. We don't need a weak or dumb Luna that doesn't know left from right."

I lose my patience and glare at him. "Are you teaching me or advising me Elder?."

He flinches at the sound of my voice but doesn't look away. "I'm only offering counsel so you don't make the wrong decisions Alpha."

"Well, I've had enough counsel to last my lifetime," I growl before leaving them at the table.

I didn't enjoy being reminded of my duties as Alpha, I know what is expected of me which is why I couldn't marry that betrayer Lila.

My pack deserves an honest and educated Luna and if I don't marry I cannot get my inheritance to the Lakewood Conglomerate or become CEO so I don't need a reminder of what is at stake.

LILA

I stare at the haircut that the stylist did in admiration. she made my hair curly with lots of layers like I asked her because I know Sebastian has a thing for curly hair and he used to beg me to put my hair in curls once upon a time .

"Now you look like  Luna," Nicolas said as I returned to the motel before he started giving me a lecture on the last few things I needed to know before we returned to Halemoon for the contest.

"Now when you're asked about your education you tell them that you studied Political sciences at Oxford and graduated first class." Nic says

"What if they want me to prove it?"

His lips twist into a smirk. "You don't have to worry about that."

In a split second I feel my head burst with knowledge of pack politics and I know that he casted a spell.

I return to the room and change into one of the fancy red dresses we stole and black seven inch heels.

"Are you ready for us to leave this hell of a motel?"

Andrea asks, coming out of the dressing room looking gorgeous.

"Hell yeah," I say feeling confident in myself as I take in my reflection.

I look exactly like what the Sebastian I remembered likes and I hope that is enough for the night.

•••

Once we arrive at the pack, the bodyguards direct us to where the opening gala for the contest is taking place and Andrea blows me a kiss before she disappears, getting lost in the crowd.

As I make my way to the seats for contestants I feel all eyes on me and I keep my head high ignoring my sweaty palms.

"Who's this whore that thinks red lipstick and heels are enough to win over Alpha?" one of the other contestants whispered as I took a seat.

"I'm sure she's as dumb as her curls, " another whispers.

"Good Evening Girls, you're all welcome to the opening of the contest. I am Nina Lakewood, the mother of our Alpha."Nina says when she enters the waiting room.

I stare at her and she looks as beautiful as I remember, almost as if she can't hurt a fly but then I remember what they did to me so I know better.

"Today, you are going to meet with the Alpha, he will get to know each and everyone of you but before you see him you will all introduce yourselves and tell me about your education and where you come from."

Each of the girls took their turns in introducing themselves while the rest that were sitting beside me continued to insult me.

Why was I always the talk of the room even when I did nothing ?

"It's because they're jealous of you. You're so stunning with your long hair and beautiful skin." My wolf remarked, making my cheeks heat up a bit .

"Thank you for the heads up girl," I say through our mind link and she hums.

"Kayla Gates, please step forward and introduce yourself to us." Nina says, calling the fake name I gave for the competition and I rise to my feet.

The whispers continue and get louder as I'm walking to meet Nina but I keep my face ahead ignoring their voices.

"You think you're the prettiest with your fake curls?" a blonde girl says before she stretches her leg and I trip on her heels, falling to the floor I feel her heels pierce my neck and I gasp as blood starts to gush.

The clerk at the Registry couldn't look me in the eye when she turned the screen around. My status didn't say "Luna" anymore. It said "Rogue." My mate, Alpha Jackson, had secretly replaced me on the official paperwork three years ago with his mistress, Candida. When I returned to the Pack House, Jackson didn't just bring Candida home; he brought a five-year-old boy he claimed was an orphan. "This is Joey," he announced, his eyes cold and glazed over. "Since you are barren, he will be the future Alpha." I tried to accept my fate as a servant in my own home, but they wanted me dead. The boy, looking like an angel, brought me a bowl of soup. "For you, Mama," he smiled. But as I reached for it, he splashed the scalding liquid over my hands. It wasn't just hot soup. It was laced with concentrated Wolfsbane. As my skin sizzled and peeled, the boy threw himself on the floor, screaming that I had attacked him. Jackson didn't check my burns. He didn't listen to my pleas. "Submit!" he roared, using the Alpha Command to force me to my knees. He made me apologize to the child who had just poisoned me. That night, listening to Jackson mate with Candida in the room next to mine, the bond finally snapped. They wanted the Luna gone? Fine. I dialed a number I hadn't used in years. "Hamilton," I whispered to the Lycan King. "I need a plane. And I need it to crash."
