Chapter 9

The morning sun had barely kissed the skyline when Caleb, Aiden, Asher, and Aria huddled in a dark corner of the street across from Kane Holdings. From this vantage point, the glass tower seemed even more imposing, shimmering like a fortress of steel and glass.

Caleb's sharp eyes scanned every window, every entrance, every employee moving in and out of the building. "Today," he whispered, "we start. Today, we get our first real glimpse of him-our father."

Aria's fists were clenched, her legs bouncing with anticipation. "I can't wait to see if he's strong. I need to know if he can protect us... or if I'll have to kick some sense into him."

Aiden smirked, fingers already flying over a small, custom-built tablet that projected a miniature map of the building. "I've hacked the front security system. Not enough to alert anyone, but enough for us to know when he moves from office to office. That's when we'll strike."

Asher nodded silently, examining a tiny vial of a tracking solution he had developed-completely harmless but perfect for leaving traces they could follow. "I'll make sure we don't get caught. We have to be precise. One mistake and the plan fails."

---

Observation Begins

Hours passed. The children watched the revolving doors, the delivery entrances, the elevators. Every employee was cataloged, every routine logged. And then they saw him-Damien Kane.

The man from the stories, the man in the files, the man who had haunted their mother's dreams. He emerged from the elevator, tall, imposing, the sunlight catching the sharp angles of his face. Even from a distance, the children could sense his power-an aura of authority that seemed to radiate like heat.

"He's... real," Aria whispered, awe and determination mixing in her voice.

Caleb nodded. "And today, we start the connection. We have to be smart. We have to be careful."

Aiden leaned closer, tapping the tablet. "He's headed to his office now. I can give you a small distraction if we want to get closer."

Aria's eyes sparkled. "Do it."

---

The First Distraction

Aiden pressed a series of keys, and suddenly, the small lights above a side entrance flickered. One employee rushed to check the issue, opening the side door to investigate. Caleb, Aria, and Asher slipped through the unattended hallway.

The building was a labyrinth, but the children's gifts made the impossible possible. Caleb navigated like a seasoned executive, predicting security patrols and elevator schedules. Aiden used his tech skills to momentarily disable a camera while Asher calculated their safest path to Damien's office. Aria's instincts kept them alert to any human obstacle.

Finally, they reached a small corridor leading to the executive suite. Damien's office doors were visible through the glass. The man was inside, standing over a stack of papers, completely unaware of the four children silently observing him.

---

The Close Encounter

"Look at him," Caleb whispered. "He doesn't even know we're here."

Aria's eyes narrowed. "He looks... strong. Dangerous. I like it."

Asher nodded. "And brilliant. His gestures, the way he handles the papers, the speed at which he processes information... he's extraordinary."

Aiden pointed to a tiny emblem on the floorplan. "That's his personal scanner. If we get too close, it'll trigger alarms."

Caleb smirked. "Then we don't get too close. We leave just enough breadcrumbs for him to notice us... subtly."

Aria's voice was barely a whisper. "I'm ready."

---

The Breadcrumbs

One by one, the children began to leave subtle clues. Aria left a tiny mark in the hallway-an unnoticeable scratch on the floor that only someone with Damien's intuition might recognize.

Aiden used his small hacking device to trigger a minor alert in the elevator system, making Damien glance up in curiosity.

Asher dropped a small paper with a medical diagram under Damien's chair, knowing the man would see it later.

Caleb's contribution was strategic-he left a folded note on a desk Damien passed by earlier. The note simply read:

"We know you."

---

Damien Notices

At first, Damien didn't understand. His office was filled with minor anomalies-light flickers, misplaced papers, a faint, almost imperceptible mark in the hallway. He frowned, his instincts screaming that something-or someone-was present.

"Security," he called, voice low and controlled.

"Yes, sir?" came the reply.

"Check the executive hallways. I want a full sweep."

But even as his team started, Damien's eyes were drawn to the tiny note he had almost ignored. He picked it up.

"We know you."

His jaw clenched. Recognition flashed in his eyes. Not recognition of her-yet-but of something he had felt before. A sense of connection he could not explain. His pulse quickened, and a low hum of excitement and tension filled the air.

Something was coming.

Something unstoppable.

And Damien Kane, richest man in the world, most powerful man on the planet, had no idea just how close he was to the four children who carried his blood-and the woman he had searched for all these years.

---

The Children Retreat

From their hidden position, the children observed him reading the note.

Aria whispered, "Did he see it?"

Caleb nodded, eyes serious. "Yes. And he's curious. That's all we need for now."

Aiden smirked. "We're not ready to confront him yet. But he's on the path. We've started the chain of events."

Asher smiled faintly. "And when he finally discovers the truth... everything will change."

The four children melted back into the shadows, hearts pounding with excitement and fear. Their first move had been a success. Damien Kane had noticed them. Damien Kane was thinking about them.

And slowly... inexorably... the threads of fate were beginning to weave their lives together.
