Chapter 1

Episode 1 - First Clash, First Spark

Camila's POV

I, Camila Reyes, fucking hated Adrian Hale with every fibre in my body.

It was already bad enough that we worked together. Even worse whenever we were mandated to exist in the same space together. Like now.

The boardroom at Apex Dynamics was perched on the 47th floor of the building and that gave me an opportunity to stare out at the panoramic view of the city skyline while Adrian Hale prepared to give his aggressive-not-strategic proposal.

A file containing his agenda was shared and it was finally dropped in front of me.

I occupied my seat with poise, my tailored black blazer hugging my curves while the pencil skirt I had on rode just high enough to hint at my toned legs.

My hair was pulled into a sleek ponytail, and my full lips were pressed into a thin line as I reviewed the agenda.

Adrian stood at the head of the table with a presence that commanded attention. Not mine though.

He was tall and broad-shouldered, filling out his charcoal suit like it was custom-forged for battle. The battle we always seemed to be caught in. His jaw was set and his calculating blue eyes scanned the room with intensity.

"Gentlemen...and ladies", he added in a smooth voice, nodding towards me. I frowned. "Our expansion into the Asian market demands bold moves".

He paused. "We acquire the subsidiary outright, integrate their assets, and cut redundancies by thirty percent. No half-measures. This isn't a partnership, it's dominance".

Murmurs rippled through the executives with some who favoured Adrian's aggressive style nodding, while there were uneasy shifts from the others who were aligned with my more measured approach.

As he went on, I waited in order to let the silence build while my pen tapped rhythmically against my notepad.

When Adrian's gaze locked onto mine, it was like a spark of molten hatred that simmered there. The years of rivalry we shared boiled beneath the surface...stolen promotions, undercut deals, and so much more.

But something else flickered there too. It was a dangerous undercurrent that made my pulse quicken against my will.

Was it desire?

No. I shook my head and shoved the thought away.

It was just the thrill of our combat.

Yes, that was it. Nothing else. Especially not desire.

Eww.

"With all due respect, Adrian". I interjected him, my voice cutting through like a sharp blade.

I rose to my feet for emphasis, slightly shielding the sunlight that sliced through the floor-to-ceiling windows from casting sharp shadows across the polished mahogany table where the executive team sat.

All eyes were now on me.

It's show time.

I gave Adrian a sly smirk while he stared daggers at me, daring me to say a word.

Oh I loved a good challenge.

Dare accepted.

I leaned forward, palms flat on the mahogany which made my blouse strain slightly over my breasts. "Your plan is a house of cards. You speak of acquiring outright? You'll alienate key talents, trigger regulatory scrutiny, and tank our stock by quarter's end".

I paused briefly, my chest rising and falling "We've seen this before. Your domination in the European rollout that cost us millions in lawsuits".

My eyes bored into his. My determination to be unyielding made the air between us thicken with unspoken tension.

Adrian's lips curled into a smirk but his molten eyes darkened with intensity. He stepped closer to my side of the table and towered over me before gesturing dismissively.

"Mila Reyes, always the voice of caution with fear disguised as wisdom, isn't it? If we play it your way...slow and collaborative, we'll be eating their dust while they lap up market share".

His eyes briefly dropped to my lips before meeting my stern eyes once more. "The board expects results, not excuses". His words dropped in condescension but his proximity sent an unwelcome shiver down my spine while the scent of his cologne...woody and masculine, invaded my space.

The room tensed and executives exchanged glances as the debate escalated. I shook my head. I wasn't backing down.

"Results?". I shot back. "Your shortcuts are why we're hemorrhaging talent. I challenge you to show one successful acquisition under your watch that didn't end in cleanup".

I held his gaze, refusing to blink, the hatred was palpable yet laced with that electric pull. His chest rose and fell, then he leaned in.

"Challenge accepted". His voice lowered just for my ears amid the murmurs. "But you know deep down, you crave the fight because it's the only time you feel alive".

The words hung heavy while our eye contact seemed like a battlefield where loathing warred with something else I didn't know of. Maybe something I didn't want to know of after all.

Adrian walked back to the front and I sat down while the meeting dragged on. Votes were split but the undercurrent between Adrian and I overshadowed the agenda.

As the executives filed out, they shook hands while murmuring about follow-ups. I gathered my files deliberately in a bid to buy time. By the time I made it to the doorway, Adrian appeared, blocking my exit.

"We need to talk" he said in a low voice that was laced with a dangerous tension that made my stomach twist.

He didn't wait for a response. Instead, he turned on his heel towards the adjacent conference room, expecting me to follow.

Very much against my better judgement, I followed with the click of my heels echoing against the polished tiles.

As soon as I entered, the door shut behind us with a soft thud. Adrian rounded me, backing me against the wall with his body. His body was not touching mine but it was close enough for me to feel the heat rolling off him.

"You think you can undermine me in front of the board? Emasculate me like that?". His voice was low and dangerous.

His breath fanned my face while stormy eyes looked deep into mine. His jaw clenched so tight I could see the muscle tick.

My heart hammered as anger surged to mask the traitorous warmth that pooled low in my belly.

"Undermine?". I scoffed. "I call it truth. You're reckless, Adrian. Always have been".

I pushed at his chest, but my hands lingered a second too long on the firm planes of muscle beneath his hurt, betraying me.

He caught my wrists and pinned them above my head with one large hand, his body pressing flush against mine. The contact was electric as his hard thigh slotted between my legs, the bulge in his pants brushing my hip.

"Reckless? Like you, shoving your way into every deal, fighting dirty because you can't win fair". His free hand instantly grabbed my hip, fingers digging into the flesh possessively while he pulled my closer until my breasts crushed against his chest.

Our breaths mingled as the hatred twisted into something primal. My lips parted to retort or even curse him out but the words died as his mouth descended, capturing mine in an intense, breath-stealing kiss.

It wasn't gentle in any way. It was a clash with his tongue invading, demanding surrender while

his teeth nipped my lower lip hard enough to draw a gasp from me.

I fought back, biting him in return. Oh, we did prioritize revenge over here. My body arched into his own despite myself and my hips was grinding instinctively against his thigh.

My nipples hardened against the fabric of my blouse, and a slick ache built in my core as his grip tightened on my hips enough to bruise.

He groaned into my mouth, the sound vibrating through me while his thick cock twitched insistently against my belly. His hand slid up my thigh, bunching my skirt as his fingers teased the edge of my panties.

As soon as that happened, reality came crashing down. I wrenched my head away and shoved him back with all my strength.

"What the hell was that?". I snapped, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand. My cheeks were flushed and my breath came in short bursts.

But I couldn't ignore the fact that my pussy throbbed with unmet need. I instantly locked it down and straightened my clothes.

Adrian stepped back, adjusting his tie. His eyes were still dark with lust I was so sure he refused to acknowledge.

"Nothing. Nothing happened". His voice was rough and dismissive but the tension that lingered could not be ignored.

I stormed past him, "Damn right it didn't". Then I walked out and slammed the door shut.

But as I stride down the hall towards the elevator, the phantom press of his lips against mine burned so much but I shoved it aside.

"This war is far from over".

They say debts are paid in blood. They never warned me that sometimes, the price is a woman. Luciano De Luca. The name alone makes men lower their voices and avert their eyes. A king without a crown. A devil in a tailored suit. He rules the underworld with calculated brutality, commanding loyalty through fear and obedience through bloodshed. To him, mercy is a weakness-and love is a lie told by foolish men before they die. Luciano is not a man you reason with. He is power, violence, and control wrapped in a deadly calm. A mafia king who destroys without mercy and takes without permission. When my father fails to pay his debt, Luciano takes me instead. I become his collateral. His punishment. His possession. Trapped in his world of blood and secrets, I am nothing more than a reminder of betrayal-kept under his watch, bound by his rules, and stripped of every illusion of freedom. Luciano made it clear from the start: I am not his guest. I am not his lover. I am not free. I am his possession. He watches me like a predator studying prey-cold, assessing, waiting for me to break. He expects fear to reduce me to nothing. He expects me to beg. To submit. But I don't. And that defiance ignites something far more dangerous than hatred in him. But somewhere between the locked doors and the whispered threats, I realize something dangerous: the man who owns me is far more broken than he wants the world to know. Luciano De Luca is ruthless-but he is not heartless. He is controlling-but barely. And every time I challenge him, every time I look him in the eyes without flinching, something dark and volatile stirs beneath his calm exterior. Luciano doesn't love. He claims. He controls. He owns. Yet the more he tries to crush my spirit, the more obsessed he becomes. His protection turns violent. His control turns suffocating. His eyes follow me like a promise and a threat all at once. He says I am his weakness. His mistake. His curse. Yet when enemies circle too close, it is Luciano who shields me with his body. When danger threatens, it is his voice that growls warnings, his hands that tighten possessively, his presence that promises violence to anyone who dares touch what is his. Because once a mafia king decides you belong to him... escape is no longer an option. I am trapped in a golden cage built from power, luxury, and danger-but the greatest threat isn't the guns, the blood, or the men who would kill for him. It's the way Luciano looks at me when he thinks I'm not watching. The way his control fractures when I'm hurt. The way his name feels dangerous on my lips. Because loving a mafia king is not a fairy tale. It's a war. A war between survival and desire. Between freedom and obsession. Between the girl I used to be and the woman his darkness is shaping me into. The deeper I fall into his world, the more I uncover secrets buried beneath his cruelty-betrayals that made him this way, scars that never healed, enemies that would destroy us both if given the chance. And as the line between captor and protector blurs, I'm forced to face a devastating truth: The man who owns my body may soon own my heart. But loving Luciano De Luca comes at a cost. Because in his world, love is a liability. And the moment he chooses me... is the moment he paints a target on my back. Will I escape the man who claims to own me?
