The Barren Luna's Secret: Pregnant with the Alpha's Heir

7.9 / 10.0
My husband, Alpha Damien, believed the Seer’s lie that I was barren and a curse to the Blackwood Pack. He spent his nights with his mistress, Victoria, while I sat alone in the cold study, hiding the swell of my belly and the future Alpha growing inside me. The night the Great Hall exploded, the truth could no longer be hidden. I collapsed on the floor, my water breaking, blood pooling beneath me amidst the choking smoke and debris. Damien saw me. He saw the agony in my eyes and the desperate plea on my lips. But when Victoria let out a theatrical scream from across the room, he made his choice. He turned his back on his pregnant mate and sprinted to save his mistress, leaving me to be consumed by the flames. I didn't die in the fire. I dragged myself out into the freezing blizzard, choosing to risk death in the snow rather than stay in a house that wanted me dead. It wasn't until weeks later that Damien tore apart the Seer’s tower and found the letter proving Victoria had paid for the fake prophecy. Shattered by the realization that he had abandoned his own son for a lie, he crossed the frozen wasteland to my father’s territory, falling to his knees in the mud to beg for my return. But he didn't find the weak, submissive wife he left behind. He found the White Wolf. I looked down at him with cold, dead eyes and whispered, "My child has my blood, and he will never know you."

The Barren Luna's Secret: Pregnant with the Alpha's Heir Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Elena POV

The morning light filtered through the heavy velvet curtains of the Luna’s study, yet it brought no warmth.

I sat in the high-backed leather chair, my fingers tracing the silver crest on the desk. It was the pack seal. My name, Elena, was etched into the metal, but the silver felt freezing beneath my fingertips.

I lowered my gaze to the curve of my swollen belly. A life. A pup.

My hand rested there, seeking comfort, and I felt the faint flutter of movement.

"You will be strong," I whispered to the silence. "Stronger than your mother."

Outside the window, the pack grounds were alive with noise. I could hear the clang of metal from the training grounds, the laughter of pups chasing each other, and the deep, rhythmic chanting of the warriors. It was the sound of the Blackwood Pack, one of the most powerful in the territory.

But in here, it was just me.

I felt like an island. The Luna of the pack, yet the most isolated wolf in the entire territory.

A soft knock broke my trance. Before I could grant permission, the door creaked open.

Victoria glided in.

She didn't wait for an invitation. She never did.

She moved with a fluid grace that always made me feel clumsy, her golden hair catching the light like a halo she didn't deserve. She held a silver tray with a plate of pastries.

"Morning, Elena," she said, her voice dripping with a sweetness that made my teeth ache.

Immediately, the room changed. The scent of old paper and wood polish was drowned out by her perfume—a heavy, floral synthetic musk. It wasn't the natural, earthy scent of a wolf. It was a mask. It coated the back of my throat, an invasive force staking a claim on my space.

She set the tray down on my desk, deliberately placing it right on top of the pack ledger I had been reviewing.

"I brought you something sweet. You look pale." She sat on the sofa uninvited, crossing her legs.

"Thank you, Victoria," I said, keeping my voice steady despite the irritation spiking in my chest. "But I have work to do."

She laughed, a tinkling sound that didn't reach her eyes. "Oh, Elena. Always so serious. Actually, I came with a message."

My heart skipped a beat. "From Damien?"

"Yes," she sighed, examining her manicured nails as if they were more interesting than my marriage. "The Pack Seer told him that the cosmic alignment is shifting. Damien is under tremendous pressure. He asked me to tell you that he won’t make it to dinner tonight. Again."

A sharp cramp seized my abdomen. I flinched, my hand flying to my stomach.

*Not again.* That was the third time this week.

Victoria didn't notice, or she chose not to. She reached out and picked up a resource allocation sheet from my desk. It was a document I had spent three days perfecting. She flipped through it idly, like it was a gossip magazine.

"You know," she said, tossing the paper back down carelessly, "being Luna is such a burden. Especially when the Alpha needs real support. Maybe I should handle these little things? You should rest. For the baby."

Her eyes flashed. It wasn't concern. It was a challenge.

"I am the Luna," I said, though my voice lacked the growl it should have had. "This is my duty."

Victoria smirked. "Duties can be reassigned. Damien trusts the Pack Seer's visions implicitly. And you know what the Seer said? That your child... might complicate the lineage. A threat to the true Alpha bloodline."

The air left my lungs as if I’d been punched.

"What?" I whispered.

"Just rumors, dear," she stood up, smoothing her dress. "But Damien listens to rumors. Especially when they concern the safety of his legacy. He thinks maybe... maybe your child isn't the blessing we thought."

She walked to the door, pausing just before she left. "Rest well, Elena."

The door clicked shut.

I sat there, frozen. The pain in my belly was nothing compared to the ice spreading through my chest.

My mind drifted back to the night I met Damien. The *Recognition*.

It is the law of our kind. When Fated Mates meet, the world stops. I remembered the scent of him—like rain on hot asphalt and pine. I remembered the roar of his Inner Wolf, that primal beast living inside his soul, screaming *Mine!* into my mind. I remembered the electric shock when our skin touched, a current so strong it nearly brought me to my knees.

I thought the Moon Goddess had blessed me.

But now? The bond felt like a shackle.

I opened the bottom drawer of the desk. Hidden beneath a stack of blank parchment was a letter. The paper was yellowed, the ink faded. It was from my father, Alpha Sterling.

*If the day comes when the Moon turns Her back on you, daughter, use this.*

Attached was a sequence of numbers. A frequency for a private, encrypted Mind-Link channel.

Mind-Linking is the telepathic web that connects all wolves. Usually, it is open to the pack, monitored by the Alpha. But this... this was a ghost line.

I touched the paper. My hand trembled, but then, I clenched my fist.

"I thought love was enough," I thought, the realization settling over me like a heavy cloak. "But my dignity, and my child's life... that is the line I will not cross."

I looked out the window one last time. The pack was still loud, still alive. But I was already gone.
