Chapter 1

Vivian's POV

The world came apart at 180 miles per hour.

I felt the rear tyre explode before I heard it. A violent vibration that sent my car into a whirlwind spin.

The metal barrier rushed at me like a wall. Everything shattered. My life flashed before my eyes.

My body flew around inside as the car flipped over and over until it crashed to the ground.

The only thing that had saved me from flying out of the car, preventing me from hitting the bare floor with my body was the seat belt.

I was lucky to had noticed that my seat belt were not so tight just when I heard the sound of tyre explode.

Blood filled my mouth, something sharp pierced to my side and I couldn't feel my legs.

I found a way to release my hands, placed them on my stomach.

I heaved a deep sigh of relief. There was no piercing to my stomach. And I could still feel the baby in my stomach. Still alive.

"Help!" I managed to say. "Someone help me!"

Through the broken window I saw a boot running towards me, i felt hopeful. Only one person had this designer golden boots. I had bought it for him last Christmas.

"John" I gasped "John, the baby."

He ran past me like I was a ghost. Like I wasn't there.

I managed to turn my head to the direction where had run to and to my greatest surprise he ran into the arms of Sharon White my teammate. Or should I say my Rival.

She stood by the pit wall, helmet under her arm, looking worried. John grabbed her face and kissed her. Deep. Long.

My eyeballs almost popped out of their socket at the sight of it.

They both ignored me like I wasn't bleeding to death like I wasn't going to die if I wasn't attended to.

The pain I felt in my heart was worse than the pain I felt at my side the place were a sharp metal had pierced me.

"John!" I screamed again. It came out as a bloody cough.

Finally they were done sucking each other's tongues. He turned around and our eyes met. That's when I saw it. Cold eyes. Mean eyes.

Seeing him look at me that way made me realise that for the past three years he had never actually looked at me in any other way apart from the way he looked right now.

He'd never loved me. Not once in three years.

"She's fine," John told the crowd. Signaling to them that they could continue the race. "She's being dramatic. Probably faking because she didn't win."

"But sir, She's badly hurt" A medic said.

"I know my driver better than you do Ciara." John snapped. "She does this all the time for attention. Let her lie there. She cost me the championship."

I watched them all walk away.

My team.

My friends.

Everyone.

They all left Mr me trapped in twisted metal.

I began to panic. My vision was beginning to blur.

My baby.

I tried to move, but I still couldn't feel my legs.

Tried to call for help but I didn't have the strength to talk anymore.

"Is this how my life ends?" I whispered. And then everywhere became dark.

****

"Make sure her legs stay damaged. I don't give a damn how you wanna do it, but her legs must be damage. Mess up the surgery. She must not be able to race anymore."

I had just opened my eyes a few minutes ago. I was about to press the nurse call button when I heard the familiar voice.

"Mr Mitchell, I can't do that-"

"Sharon is better in driving anyway. Vivian has only stayed this long just because of PR. You know the story, the sad orphan with the drunk father was good for the team image."

"Was?" I muttered still laying quietly in the bed.

The bastard was already referring to me in past tense. I couldn't believe my ears.

"I am done with her doctor micah."

"But she's pregnant... the baby seems healthy."

I heard footsteps.

From the way the person walked i could tell it was John. Yes that was the extent to which I loved him.

I could tell if he was near just by the sound of his footsteps. By his scent, I ain't even talking about the scent of his cologne.

To think that the man I had loved for three years wants to destroy my life and career and even kill our baby.

"The baby isn't my problem. Just do what I'm paying you for, Doctor."

My heart skipped multiple beats.

Footsteps came closer then I shut my eyes fast. Tears running down my face.

I couldn't raise my hands to wipe them off, if I did they would know that I heard their discussion. And then they might end up killing me instead of just destroying my legs alone.

The door opened. His steps.

He leaned close.

I could smell his cologne the very one I had saved for months to buy him.

I felt his hands on my arm.

"You were so easy," he whispered. "You wanted to be loved desperately. Did you really think that I John Mitchell would want you? A nobody with a drunkard for a father?" He paused.

I felt his hands on my face. "Oh dear, I called your mother, told her you are here. Maybe she'll have the courage to finish what she started when she left you."

He walked away.

I tried to move, to scream but I couldn't. My body was done. I couldn't feel my baby anymore. Everything felt cold.

Twenty three years old, and I've never lived a day for myself.

Everything never went well for me.

I'd survived the abuse of my father, survived my mother's absence. Survived being poor, hurt and alone. I'd survived everything except the one thing I thought would save me.

Love.

The machines started beeping loud. Nurses ran in. I felt myself floating above my broken body.

If I got another chance, I thought as darkness came, I'd destroy him.

Then nothing.
