Chapter 3

***

We were driving in silence all the way towards an unknown place. Luka took the driver's position and I was pretty much sure that he had something in his little brain to boost up my mind. The car halted midway, snapping back my attention on the road as I saw long lines of vehicles.

Traffic Jam!

Luka stared up at me nervously, surprised to find that I was still in my sober mood. He opened his mouth after a deep sigh,

" Look, Lo! I know that you are angry. But listen to me carefully. I think, I have gotten a better solution for you. Have you heard about surrogacy?"

My brows knitted together thoughtfully. I heard about surrogacy a lot but Luka knew more about me. He was from the medical field, a world famous doctor who had to travel a lot to perform most critical surgery. Though I still had primer ideas about surrogacy, still I was a bit confused.

I hummed, paying my full attention to him,

" Hmm! What's wrong with that?"

He smiled cheekily, placing his elbow on the driving wheel,

" That is your solution, buddy. You don't want to get married but want an heir, a child of your own. Surrogacy is the best option for you now. You will just have to spend some money."

I put his words inside my mind, deeply considering. I finally had my answer. That was a brilliant idea to solve my problem. I stared back at his face, smiling widely at his brilliant thoughts. A smirk grew from the corner of my lips as I replied, smacking on his shoulder,

" You are so fucking awesome, man. That's it! But where can we find such a girl? I mean, I don't want any risk. I need a perfect woman to become my child's mother, a beauty with a brain."

Luka nodded with a smile. He spoke, stepping on his wheel to restart the car,

" I am a little bit concerned about that, Lo. We have to pick women wisely."

I spoke as he began to ride again,

" But where are we going?"

He blurted, taking an u-turn swiftly,

" Darknight Bar! "

****

I wiggled my eyebrows in disgust after Luka guided me into the VIP lounge. Darknight bar had always been famous for shabby things, smuggling and women. People went there for entertainment more than drinking or killing their time. My eyes travelled on the stage, a bright bulb illuminating through space. Our VIP zone was at the southeast corner, away from the typical zone. Curiosity sparked within me as I spoke, pointing my chin at the stage,

" What will happen here?"

Luka chuckled, passing the wine glass at me,

" Stripper show!"

I laughed in disgust. Stripper business wasn't allowed everywhere in the city except a few bars whose owner had a big influence in the dark world. The bars that I often used to go to didn't have any place for Strippers as they counted them as a restricted business.

I scoffed at shooting Luka a glare,

" I asked you for refreshment. Here, you brought me for a naked show, really?"

Luka winked at me, shoving the piece of chicken into his mouth,

" They are sexy, trust me."

Despite my unwillingness to watch the show, I restrained myself from leaving the bar. I knew that if I went back to my place, I would have thought about smashing things. Arnaldo King had finally set his mind to demolish me from his clan. But I was my mother's son. I couldn't let anyone else get something which belonged to my mother in reality. Perhaps, she wasn't here among us but I was there to get her every revenge on that family.

Flashlights fell onto the stage, brightening the place as someone was making her way into the stage. After a while, more and more people were gathered around the stage, whistling and anticipating something eagerly.

I couldn't understand the reason behind their excitement and all I did was lazily watch them. They were looking like they couldn't take their hands off their pants.

What morons!

Not long after that, a woman in her late thirties walked into the stage seductively. She was moving her hips more than necessary. She threw a flying kiss at the men before taking the mike. I guess, that's what they did, seducing these men to get their money.

She watched the crowd leisurely. After fixing her hair, her voice echoed playfully through the crowd,

" Sorry, boys. My baby, Valentina can't come tonight."

The men immediately burst into commotion as they yelled at the woman, muttering different things which was audible to me. I muttered Luka curiously,

" Who is Valentina?"

Luka replied gulping liquor from his wine,

" A famous stripper from here, a virgin one."

I choked, shooting him a glare of disbelief,

" Are you kidding me? A stripper and a virgin?"

Luka nodded his head seriously, referring to the stage smirking,

" I was shocked to hear like you but indeed she doesn't sell her body. She comes sharp at 11 to perform her show and then leaves after collecting money. I heard that people die to steal a single glance of her. Usually, not many men come here but especially when they come here for her show. She is called the dark queen."

I hummed idly and teased Luka,

" Bad guy! Too much information about a stripper isn't good for a doctor like you."

Luka laughed throwing his head back as he leant against the couch, huffing,

" But she is too hot, Lo. Her thighs are famous for being long and sexy."

I didn't have time for a stripper's story but I was definitely wanting to see the famous stripper as the men went crazy literally. The woman from the stage finally disclosed the truth with a hilarious laughter,

" Calm down, guys. How can my queen upset you all? So ladies and gentlemen, please welcome VALENTINA on the stage."

I was the ultimate trophy wife, a polished ornament in Francisco Zimmerman’s billionaire empire. For three years, I perfected the "Zimmerman Wife Smile," playing the role of the devoted partner while smoothing the Egyptian cotton of his shirts. The illusion shattered when I stood outside his study and heard him laughing with his mistress, Annalise. "She’s just a vase that only knows how to smile," Francisco’s voice was cold, devoid of any warmth. "As long as I pay the maintenance fees on time, she stays obedient." I walked out that night with nothing but a canvas bag and the clothes on my back. But Francisco wasn't finished with his "asset." He froze my bank accounts and used his massive influence to blacklist me from every interior design firm in New York. He tracked my phone, watching me struggle from the shadows, waiting for me to starve so I would crawl back to his mansion. He even showed up at the dive bar where I was playing piano for rent money, mocking my desperation. "You have technique, but no heart," he sneered, tossing a silver coin into my tip jar as if I were a beggar. "You're hollow, Iris. Just like your pride." I couldn't believe this was the same man whose life I had saved during a bloody night in Macau. To him, I wasn't a wife; I was a stock price that needed stabilizing. The more I fought for my independence, the tighter he pulled the net, determined to break my spirit until I had no choice but to return to his gilded cage. Then, the morning sickness hit. I realized I wasn't just carrying my own life anymore—I was carrying his heir. If Francisco found out, he would never let us go; he would turn my child into another "performance bonus" for his brand. I wore emerald silk and a diamond that cost more than most mansions, convinced that Hank Bolton was my soulmate and the key to my family's future. But behind the heavy oak doors of the guest wing, the dream died. I found my fiancé tangled with another woman, laughing about how I was nothing more than a "clueless cash cow" whose inheritance would fund his run for the Senate. In my first life, I reacted with tears and screams, which only allowed his family to paint me as an unstable lunatic. They stripped me of my dignity, bankrupted the Adams estate, and watched coldly as my brother, Lucas, died in a ditch trying to save me. I ended up gasping for air in a burning building, realizing too late that my perfect engagement was actually my execution. I died in the soot and the shadows, feeling the searing heat of a betrayal that burned worse than the fire. I lost everything because I was too blind to see the monsters hiding behind expensive smiles. But then, I suddenly gasped for air and realized the smoke was gone. I was standing in front of a vanity, the calendar mocking me: October 14th. The night of the gala. I had been given a second chance, and this time, I wasn't going to be the victim. I recorded the betrayal on my phone and walked into the library with a heart made of ice. I didn't just blow up the engagement; I demanded a new groom—Hank’s "invalid" older brother, Dereck, a man the world had written off as a dying recluse. "I'll take him," I told the stunned family. I wanted a husband who couldn't cheat, a puppet who would leave me a wealthy widow within a year. I thought I was choosing a safe, broken man to shield me from my enemies. I didn't know that under his blanket, Dereck was hiding a holster, or that the "dying" man was actually a predator who had been waiting for someone exactly like me to walk into his trap.
