Chapter 2

Emily's POV

I grabbed her neck only to have Leo tank me away from her, pushing me that I clashed on the wall and fell to the floor. My back hurt so badly. He stepped forward to me and gave me a series of punches, it was the hardest beating of my life. Worst was that it was coming from the man I loved so much, the man I gave my entire savings to and who promised to wait for me. I couldn't believe he was standing with his new mate to beat me up.

I managed to rise from the ground even when my body was so weak and my wolf had gone unconscious out of this heartbreak.

“I need to show them what type of a girl I am!” I growled inside of me and with the last energy in me, I somersaulted and hit both of them so hard that they fell, crashing to the floor. With the dim light in the room, I sighted the golden card I'd given to him. It was right there on top of the purse on the table.

I stood still.

“Did he plan to give my money to this girl?” I turned to look at him in surprise but a voice told me to pick up the card and leave right away. I had to heed to it. From his apartment, I tore a quick race to the pack estate where I managed to sneak in straight to my room.

My room was turbulent as expected, I couldn't sleep. I couldn't wait for morning to come so I'll leave for England. My heartbreak was climbing up to my head that I feared I would spill out my emotions, my dad knowing this would be the worst thing to ever happen to me.

Luckily, I got past this.

When I arrived in Oxford, I was still saddened with the betrayal of my mate that I just packed into my hostel and set out immediately with the mindset of getting into a club house and having fun, at least drinking and partying along with strangers. I couldn't let myself suffer this much at the new life I've come here to have.

I trod along the concrete path of the university, it was a few minutes past seven. I met some seniors who were pulling things in order for the induction party for freshers.

“Hello,” I got their attention. They turned over to me.

“What's up, fresher.” One of the four girls who stood here said to me. I summoned courage and spoke up my mind.

“I'm sorry, can I find the location of a night club around campus?”

“Huh?” They gasped, turned to look at each other and then back to me. Merely seeing their faces, I knew what they thought. They must be wondering if I began my life here as a fresher by going to clubs but they didn't know the turmoil that was going on right inside of me at the moment. I needed to release my tension.

They stared at me for a while, probably because they realized we are all adults and I could do whatever I wanted even though I was a freshman.

“Lorenzo Clubhouse, along Dowell Street. It's across the campus main gate. Walk through this path.”

“Oh, thanks so much.” As I was about walking off, a question struck my mind. I paused. “Sorry, please when does the gate close?” This was a new place and they probably had their rules being one of the best universities in the world.

“Students are denied entrance from twelve midnight.”

“I should be back by then.” I peered into my digital watch and ran off.

Just as they directed, I was able to locate the clubhouse. I paid my entrance fee at the door and walked right in, there were few empty seats close to the bartender. I sat right there.

“One shot of whiskey.” I ordered. While I drank a series of shots, I watched them dancing, men with women, romantically clinging to each other. My thoughts drifted back to Leo and the strange girl I saw him with. For a moment, I wasn't myself, not until I felt a tap on my shoulders which got me jerking up and sitting up straight.

Before me stood a tall, charming and muscular young man, supposed to be older than me. He had emerald green eyes and black spiky hair. The first three buttons of his shirt were unbuttoned and I could see his hard chest. My eyes returned back to his eyes, I was lost in his charming gaze.

“What's up, pretty girl?”

“Why are you alone?”

Even before he began talking to me, my mind had begun thinking dirty thoughts about him. “After all, I'm alone!” I told myself in justification.

“Yeah—hhh.”

I stammered upon returning to my senses. His eyes looked so charming that I couldn't look at him directly, my eyes began to roam his body instead. His pants were fitting which portrayed his athletic build.

“Gosh! This is the type of man I want for myself.”

“Really? I'm all yours. I can see you're alone.”

“Huh?” I gasped upon hearing him say this, I realized he heard what I just said. I didn't know what to do at this point, shame and nervousness set in being that I wasn't the type of girl that pursued guys this way.

“No need to be shy, we're both adults. Come on with me,” he grabbed my hand and leaned close to my ear. “I'll give you a night of passion that will make you forget all about your worries.”

I wondered how he knew I was worrying but there was no time for curiosity. I couldn't miss this chance, I really wanted to empty my heartbreak. I had planned to give out my virginity to Leo, my first boyfriend but he didn't even wait for me to leave before he cheated on me. My heart now burned with fury and lust, I was going to give my virginity to anyone I got attracted to and it turned out to be no one other than this sexy demi-god of a stranger.

The story begins among the vine rows of the San Lorenzo Estate in the Guadalupe Valley. To Hanna Román, this land isn't about money; it's the living memory of her father, the man who taught her that every grape holds the secret of time. However, since his death, Hanna's world has been falling apart. Her mother, Doña Elena-a woman whose entire identity is tied to her last name and her jewelry box-has squandered the family fortune in a desperate attempt to keep up appearances among Mexico's elite. Debt is closing in, and the banks are threatening to seize the hacienda. This is when Elena plays her final card: her daughter. Hanna is young, beautiful, and possesses a purity that stands in stark contrast to the decay of high society, making her the family's most valuable asset. Elena reaches out to the Montes family, a lineage of financial sharks, and proposes a deal that feels like it belongs in another century: a marriage alliance in exchange for wiping out the Román family's debts. The Clash of Two Worlds Sergio Montes doesn't believe in fate, only in statistics. As the CEO of Montes Holdings, his life is a whirlwind of private jets and board meetings in Mexico City skyscrapers. He is strikingly handsome but glacially cold. He accepts the deal not for love or even desire, but out of strategic necessity: his grandfather, the patriarch of the empire, has given him an ultimatum to inherit the presidency of the company-he must "settle down" and project a solid family image. Their first meeting at a luxury restaurant in Mexico City is a total train wreck. Hanna arrives with the dust of the hacienda still in her soul and her pride wounded; Sergio arrives with a legal contract in hand. He looks at her as just another acquisition-a beautiful but silent asset. She looks at her as the executioner of her freedom. The Paper Pact The contract is signed with clear clauses: A two-year public marriage. Living together in Sergio's penthouse in Mexico City. Hanna receives the funds to modernize San Lorenzo but cannot return to live there until the contract expires. Any real emotional involvement is strictly forbidden. The beginning of their life together is a cold war. Hanna feels suffocated by the city and Sergio's controlling nature. He, in turn, is caught off guard by her resistance. Hanna isn't the "trophy wife" he expected; she secretly studies agronomy, reads up on commercial law, and questions his every move. Cracks in the Armor The turning point comes when Sergio is forced to visit the San Lorenzo Estate for an audit. Away from his concrete jungle, he sees a different Hanna: passionate, a leader, and deeply connected to the land. For the first time, the arrogant CEO feels a crack in his armor. The physical attraction that was always humming beneath the surface like an electric current finally explodes during a storm at the hacienda, where the contract stops being about paper and starts being about skin. However, Hanna's mother, Elena, isn't done with her schemes. Seeing Sergio start to soften, she fears losing her grip on the money and begins leaking information to the press to sabotage the relationship-leading Hanna to believe that Sergio is planning to sell the hacienda behind her back to build a hotel complex. Climax and Redemption The perceived betrayal breaks Hanna. She flees the city and retreats to the vineyards, ready to lose everything rather than stay with a man who thinks everything has a price. Sergio, faced for the first time with something he can't buy with a check, has to choose between his empire and the woman who taught him how to feel. The end of the story isn't just about saving the San Lorenzo Estate; it's about the transformation of them both. Sergio has to swallow his pride to ask for forgiveness, and Hanna has to learn that love-even when it starts as a transaction-can be the only absolute truth in a world of appearances.

I thought I was waking up in the arms of Arthur, the man I loved. But as the morning light hit the Hamptons estate, the man buttoning his cuffs by the window turned around with eyes like chips of ice. It was Augustus Riddle, Arthur’s cruel younger brother, and I had just spent the night whispering confessions of love into the wrong man's ear. The night I thought was a beautiful beginning turned into a devastating nightmare. Instead of comfort, Gus treated me like a stain on his expensive carpet, scribbling a check for "services rendered" before shoving me into a dark service corridor to hide my existence from his brother. "How much does it cost to buy your silence?" He sneered, before leaving me barefoot in a torrential downpour while he drove away in a luxury Cadillac. Four years later, I am a struggling actress in Los Angeles, working double shifts as a barista just to keep the lights on. My life was finally stable until my roommate dragged me to a high-end dinner to meet her new "influential" boyfriend. The man sitting at the table, looking more arrogant and lethal than ever, was Augustus. He spent the entire night humiliating me, calling me a pathetic amateur and a social climber in front of my only friends. When I fled into the rain and collapsed on the sidewalk, skinning my knee until I bled, he watched from his car. He saw me clutching a plastic baggie containing the taped-together pieces of that four-year-old check—the only proof of my shame. He looked at me like roadkill, rolled up his window, and drove off into the dark. I couldn't understand why he was doing this. Why did he hate me enough to crush me, yet remember that I couldn't handle the smell of cigarette smoke? Why did he leave me bleeding in the street, only to send expensive medical supplies and coffee to my door the very next morning? "I'm moving out." I told my roommates, realizing that Gus Riddle didn't just want to destroy me; he wanted to haunt me. I grabbed my suitcase and walked out with eighty dollars to my name, finally ready to disappear into the city before he could burn the rest of my life to the ground.
