Chapter 6

The world tilted sideways, the warehouse spinning like a nightmare. My father's gun trained on Ava, her wide eyes reflecting every ounce of fear and trust she had placed in me. My mind raced, calculating, planning, cursing every choice that led to this moment.

First conflict, family betrayal versus survival. The people I should have trusted most were my greatest enemies.

I shoved Ava behind me, gun aimed at my father. "Drop it" I said, voice sharp and low. "Don't test me"

He smiled, calm, unshaken, eyes like ice. "Lucien, you've grown into a man I don't recognize. And she... His gaze flicked to Ava, "you shouldn't have brought her into this world"

Anger boiled, raw and dangerous. My fists clenched around the gun. My father, my blood, was a threat to the woman carrying my child. Every instinct screamed survival, but every memory screamed betrayal

Second conflict, protecting Ava and the unborn child from my own blood. A cruel twist fate hadn't warned me about

"Let her go," I said, teeth gritted. "Or I swear to God" Ava grabbed my arm, Her voice was fierce, trembling but undeniable.

"Lucien, you need to listen"

I froze, Her eyes pleaded for trust, for calm, but they also burned with fury. "He wants control," she whispered "He always did. But there's a way we can turn this"

I glanced at her, mind splitting between rage and reason. "Explain"

She nodded toward the scattered folder at our feet. "The contracts, the contingencies, the second hit, they can all be used against him. We just need leverage"

Third conflict, balancing love, revenge, and survival while the empire teetered on a knife's edge

I swallowed, assessing the room. Matteo lay groaning on the floor, bruised but alive. My mother struggled against Ava, fury and pride twisting her movements. The men in the warehouse were disoriented from the explosion and gunfire, some taking cover, others frozen in hesitation.

"Now," I whispered to Ava. She nodded, moving like a shadow to the folder, snatching the critical papers. My father's eyes followed her every move, suspicion flashing, but she held nothing in her hands, only the promise of chaos.

I lunged at him, gun raised. He deflected, close enough to feel his cold grip on my arm. "You'll never understand what's at stake, Lucien. Family isn't about love, it's about power.

I jerked free, stepping back, gun aimed at his chest. "Family isn't about killing your own blood or the next generation. You're done"

Ava moved closer, folding the papers into a secure bundle, sliding it into her bag. "We have what we need," she said. We can end this now.

The tension cracked, Shots rang out again as Matteo stirred, raising his gun toward us. I fired first, hitting the weapon from his hands, metal clattering across the floor. He growled, fury and pain mixing in the same low sound.

My mother screamed, breaking free from Ava's grip, charging toward the bag. I tackled her, pinning her to the floor, her nails scraping my arms, rage burning through her eyes. "Stay down!" I shouted

Ava ran to the far side, bag in hand. "Go, Lucien! I'll cover you"

I glanced at her, mind shouting that I couldn't leave her. Not again, But the folder, our leverage, our lifeline needed to survive

I sprinted to her, tackling Matteo's nearest man, swinging a punch that rattled teeth. The warehouse erupted around us, bullets, shouts, fire. Everything blurred except her and the baby, the life we had to protect at all costs.

Suddenly, a siren pierced the chaos, echoing through the warehouse. Police? Or another trap? My pulse hammered, every second sharper than the last

"Lucien!" Ava shouted. "They're moving in!"

I glanced toward the entrance. Dozens of men, armored and ready, pouring through the doors. Matteo's reinforcements, My father's final betrayal.

"We can't hold them!" I yelled

Ava looked at me, eyes blazing with determination. "We don't need to, We need to vanish"

I froze, Vanish? With Matteo, my father, my mother, and the baby's life at stake?

"They'll never see us coming," she said, voice low and urgent. "We disappear, regroup, and hit them where it hurts.

Tonight isn't the end, it's the beginning.

I felt the weight of the world, my empire, my bloodline, my mate, my child, all balancing on a knife's edge. Every instinct screamed fight. Every ounce of strategy whispered retreat.

"Fine," I said, voice tight, "We disappear, But we take everything with us"

Ava smiled faintly, hope glinting in the chaos. She reached for my hand, gripping tight. "Together"

I nodded, letting her lead, My gun swept the warehouse one last time, ready for the final confrontation. But as we moved toward the shadows, a sharp click echoed behind me

I spun. My father, standing in the rafters, gun raised, aiming directly at Ava

"Not this time," he said coldly

Everything froze. Fire, smoke, screams all paused in the balance of a single heartbeat

I dove toward Ava, but the shot rang out

and the world went black.
