Chapter 2

"The great Carter who's been single for a long time now, what's your plan? Don't you have any plans to even taste a woman? Are you gay?"

Angelo asks his friend Carter a question as they sit down. Carter can hear the teasing in his tone. He just ignored him and poured whiskey into the glass for him.

"You've been single for so many years, bro. How's your semen doing? Do you have a plan to just stock that or maybe you prefer to use your hand more than a woman," Lucas also took up the topic with a cheeky laugh.

For the second time, Carter ignored him as well and straightened up the whiskey. He remained to stare at the emptiness and rest his body.

These motherfuckers would never stop laughing at him about this topic every time they invited him to have a drink. For these poor playboys with only money left, it would be incredible that they haven't fucked a woman for one day, let alone years.

"Did you just invite me to express your boring opinions about my life? I should go instead of wasting my time here. What do you think?" Carter asked them and sipped the wine.

Angelo Tan, the bar owner, laughed and even patted him on the arm.

"Just kidding, dude. But aren't you really shaping up right now? Just one?" He asked further.

Carter just shook his head and looked around the whole club.

This club, Wild Rover, is Angelo's most recent property, which has just opened for about two or three months. But this was the first time he came here.

He was always busy at work, but they have already invited him many times. And another thing is that, although he has no interest in such places, he just feels empty and he wants the alcohol to touch his throat the main reason he's here.

"What did you think and set up this kind of business? Apart from being a womanizer," Carter asked him when he heard that their conversation had changed and that his club was the topic.

Angelo glanced at Carter for a moment and shrugged.

"It's been his dream ever since, dude. You don't seem to know Gelo," said Lucas and like Carter, he looked around the whole place. "But you already have a lot of guests with big names here, huh. What is your secret?"

Carter focused his gaze on Angelo and waited for his answer to Luke's question. He looks like looking for someone who's around.

"The bartender here, Olive, introduced someone to me right after the opening. Damn, she's so fucking hot, bro. She is the one that all the guests have been visiting here since the beginning," Angelo said and looked around again.

"If you could just see how fucking sexy and hot she is."

Carter hissed.

He means that the reason why his club is so popular totally depends on a sexy waitress?

Carter didn't bother to care about this guy who was full of woman's ass and ignored his next words.

To be honest, he kind of wants to leave already. It was a mistake to say yes to their invitation!

At this time, Carter could hear exactly what seemed to be a commotion near them. It got his attention. He roamed his eyes around him and then he found that the sound of commotion seemed to come from the same area where they are-the VIP area.

It appeared that the guests in another booth were forcing a waitress to drink. But there were too many bodyguards around the seat. Carter can only vaguely see the woman's side face through the gap of these bodyguards' bodies.

And just such a blurred profile aroused countless memories of him.

When she looked up and they both met each other's gaze, he could feel his heartbeat slowing down as he stared at her.

What the hell is she doing here?

Flashback

Christmas night is getting deeper.

Carter's gaze shifted to the flowers scattered on the floor and to the candlelight dinner he had prepared for her. He spent some time preparing for it because he wanted this night to be perfect for him and especially for her.

He wants her to never forget this night as she said yes to him. But it has been a few hours and she's still not showing up.

Carter gasped and looked at his cell phone, looking forward to her text but none. He tried calling her again but her phone is now out of reach. He no longer knew what to think.

Could it be that something bad has happened to her?

Carter was shocked when he heard the doorbell ring along with his heartbeat. Overjoyed, thinking it was her, he hurried to the door to open it.

But his jaw dropped when he saw her sister, Claire. He even looked behind her thinking maybe she was just hiding there but nothing.

"Where's Dahlia?" Carter asked her in astonishment, but instead of her answering him, she went straight inside, so he followed her right away.

He immediately saw her grin as she looked at the things he had prepared for her sister.

"What's this? Are you planning to propose to her tonight?" She mockingly asked him. Carter frowned and nodded.

"Where is she? She doesn't answer my call," he said and sat down.

Claire didn't answer and instead had something to do with her cellphone. When she turned to him, he saw the anger in her eyes.

"While you are here waiting for her, this is what she was doing all the time. Do you think you can still ask a woman like her to marry you?" She asked and suddenly put the cellphone on his face.

Carter's heart stopped beating for a moment when he saw who was in the video.

It was Dahlia, with a man beside her. They were both naked and wrapped in blankets as if they had just finished what they had done – whatever they had done.

Carter laughed and almost threw the cellphone back at Claire.

"Is this a fucking prank? That's not Dahlia. Why are you doing this?!" Carter yelled at her. He could feel his heart split when she laughed.

"Dahlia is not just an innocent woman, My poor Carter. You are taken in by her. You all think she is pure and innocent just because of her face and the way she talks, but she's not! She's a dirty bitch! You have always chosen the wrong woman."

Carter didn't believe Claire that day because he didn't want to. He couldn't ruin Dahlia's image of him to the point that he even wanted an explanation from her even though what he saw was very clear.

Claire looked at Carter as if she were pitying him. She approached him step by step, trying to grab him from behind, squeezing her large breasts against his back.

"My dear Carter, it's not your fault. You were just deceived by my sister, that dissolute woman. I told you I was the right woman for you, didn't I? She is only an illegitimate daughter of my family, a real gold digger, a prostitute who can sell her body for money. She doesn't deserve you at all."

Carter couldn't even think about what she was saying, but he pushed her away and hurried out the door and ran into this cold Christmas night.

The next day, Carter went to her campus and waited for her but she didn't show up anymore. He tried to wait but she never showed up. She's the reason why he ended up being miserable until now. Because of her, he saw nothing else. She was the basis of everything for him.

And to this day, after so many years, Carter still can't forget her stunning face. He didn't even expect that he would see her here, in this kind of place after three years.

Much has changed in her.

Her body has always been beautiful, especially her face. Everyone was calling her "The Aphrodite" back then because of her beautiful face – gentle, attractive, and innocent – one of the reasons why he fell in love with her at first sight.

But now, she is dressed in Sexy Bunny Girl's clothes, her slim waist is outlined by her corset, and her charming chest is wrapped in a low collar shirt. Wearing white fluffy rabbit ears, she struggled and cried in the arms of an old man.

The tears did not detract from her beauty. On the contrary, when tears run down her angelic face, all men will go crazy for her.

Now Carter understands why this club is being visited.

"It looks like your eyes are still effective, bro. That's the woman I was talking about earlier. Everyone goes here and is willing to pay as much as possible just for one night with her." Carter heard Angelo mentioned. He kept his eyes on Dahlia.

Three years ago, every time he kissed her, he would be careful, for fear of defiling her beauty; Now, she is still so beautiful, but he just want to tear off all her clothes and fuck her to cry.

Carter remembered what Claire said. A real gold digger? A prostitute who can sell her body for money?

That's fucking right!

"So, have you tasted her yet?" Lucas asked Angelo.

"Stupid, no. She's not into sex, bro. She's just entertaining some guests here," he replied and turned to Carter. "Do you want to bet?" He asked.

"What?"

"What?" Carter replied to them absently.

He watched Dahlia crying and struggling desperately, but no one saved her. This scene is not uncommon in such clubs, and everyone is used to it. Anyway, she asked for it, didn't she?

"Since you're the only single here, let's make a bet. I will give you this club if you could sleep with her within three months. Dare?" Angelo declared.

Now, those men have begun to tear her clothes and stockings. At this time, Dahlia finally found him. It was obvious that she recognized him, but she didn't ask him for help.

Maybe she actually liked the older guys better than him, her jilted ex-boyfriend?

What a fucking joke, Angelo.

Carter didn't answer any words, but just stood up and walked over. Those bodyguards seemed to want to stop him from disturbing their boss for fun, but he ignored them. Carter knew Angelo would help him deal with these people.

Carter grabbed Dahlia by the wrist, pulled her out of the man's arms, and without hesitation, he lowered his head and kissed her.

Sleep with her, huh?

This woman made him miserable for so many years and he still wants her. Carter wants her to go crazy over him again and make her think the betrayal she did to him three years ago was the worst mistake she ever made.

Her Second Chance At Love Novel Cover

The passenger window bloomed into a spiderweb of cracks, and one razor-sharp sliver drew a searing, hot line across Amelia Hayes’s cheek. "Help me," she choked into the phone, but her husband, Ethan Caldwell, snapped: "Amelia, for God's sake, I'm in a meeting." A percussive blow, then a wave of encroaching silence. She awoke not on the hard-packed asphalt beside her car, but in her opulent master bedroom, the calendar marking three months after her wedding. Three months into a marriage that had already begun its slow work of killing her. Ethan stood by the window, his voice softening, "Yes, Jessica, tonight sounds perfect." Jessica Thorne, his true love, the shadow over Amelia's first life. The customary ache that had long occupied the space beneath her ribs did not flare, but rather receded, leaving behind a preternatural stillness—a silence so profound she could count the heavy, deliberate beats of the pulse in her wrist. For seven miserable years, she had given Ethan a desperate, unyielding devotion. She had endured his glacial distance, his brazen affairs, his emotional abuse, all for a flicker of his attention. She had become a shell, a caricature, ridiculed by Ethan's circle and condescended to by his family. The profound injustice, the sheer blindness of his indifference, was a bitter pill. The familiar, constricting tightness that had long defined her chest had vanished. In its place was a peculiar and unnerving lightness, as if some vital, heavy organ had been neatly excised, leaving behind a cavity that no longer knew how to ache. She recalled the final indignity from that first life: a vulgar scene at a gala involving Eleanor’s ashes. Ethan’s palm had struck her shoulder with such force that she stumbled two full steps backward; before her skull met the unyielding wall, she registered the faint, sickening pop of a vertebra in her own neck, his accusations echoing: "You are a disgrace." He comforted Jessica while Amelia's head reeled from the impact. That was the final insult. There were no tears, nor any tremor of rage. Her fingertips, which had so often trembled, now rested upon her knees with the weight and stillness of poured lead. She delivered a small velvet box to his penthouse. Inside: the wedding ring and a divorce decree. "I require you," she stated, her voice a thing of newfound clarity, "to be removed from my life. Permanently." She was reborn to be free.
