Contract Bride: Rising From The Shadows Novel Cover

Contract Bride: Rising From The Shadows

I was hired to be the "cure" for the Stuart family’s reputation, a wife whose only job was to manage the emotional risks of Casper Stuart’s cold-blooded empire. My life was governed by spreadsheets and compliance reports, and my value was measured solely by my ability to remain a silent, perfect asset. On our second anniversary, Casper didn't come home for dinner; instead, a Page Six alert showed him with a Victoria's Secret model at Soho House, his hand possessively on her back. When he finally returned, he didn't offer an apology, but a clinical reminder of my "obligations." I soon discovered he had given my three-million-dollar anniversary bonus—a pink diamond necklace—to his mistress, while tossing me a cheap bracelet his assistant had picked out. When his mother offered me a two-hundred-million-dollar settlement to disappear, Casper tore the contract to shreds in front of me. He whispered that he had bought up every cent of my family’s medical and gambling debts, turning my marriage into a life sentence of indentured servitude. To prove his power, he kicked me out of his car in a rainstorm twenty miles from the city, leaving me to walk home barefoot while he drove off with my dog. "Tell her you want to stay," he had commanded in front of his mother, using my mother’s life as leverage to keep his "portfolio" intact. I stood in the mud, shivering as the rain washed away the mask of the supportive wife, realizing that to the Stuarts, I wasn't a human being—I was a line item that could be liquidated or crushed at will. But Casper forgot one thing: I am an actress, and I’ve finally landed the role of a lifetime. I’m done managing his risks; I’m about to become his greatest liability.

Chapter 4

The silence in the dining room the next morning was heavy enough to choke on. Casper sat at the head of the table, reading the Wall Street Journal. He drank his coffee black.

Dosha sliced her avocado toast into precise, geometric squares. Asset was under the table, his chin resting on her foot.

"The bracelet," Casper said, not looking up from the paper. "If you don't like it, throw it away."

"It's been cataloged," Dosha said. "It's an asset."

Casper made a noise in his throat, a sound of disgust. He hated how much she cared about the money. It made him feel like he was just a wallet.

Dosha's phone lit up on the table. An Instagram notification. She had set an alert for Sienna's account.

She tapped the screen.

A photo filled the display. It was a selfie. Sienna was on a boat, the wind in her hair. Around her neck was a necklace. A pink diamond pendant, surrounded by a halo of white diamonds.

The caption read: Best anniversary gift ever. Love you C. <3

Dosha stopped breathing for a moment.

She knew that necklace. It was listed in the Appendix of their Prenup. It was the item designated for the Second Year Anniversary Bonus.

It was valued at three million dollars.

The bracelet in her drawer was worth fifty thousand, retail.

Dosha set her fork down. The ceramic clink was loud.

Casper lowered the paper. "What? Is the toast not to your liking?"

Dosha turned the phone around and held it up.

"This was my annual bonus, Casper. You are in default."

Casper glanced at the screen. He didn't even blink.

"That is a reward for loyalty," he said smoothly. "For performance. Your performance last night... did not warrant that price point."

The air left the room.

He was pricing her dignity. He was assigning a dollar value to her submission.

Dosha felt a heat rise in her chest that had nothing to do with embarrassment and everything to do with rage. She stood up. She picked up the printed itinerary for the day-the one that listed Breakfast with Eleanor Stuart at 9:00 AM.

She ripped it in half.

Casper narrowed his eyes. "What are you doing?"

"Since the budget has been cut," Dosha said, her voice trembling slightly, "services are being reduced. I am not attending the breakfast."

Casper stood up so fast his chair scraped loudly against the floor. "Eleanor is waiting. You do not cancel on my mother."

"Tell her I'm sick," Dosha said, walking toward the bedroom. "Tell her I have a contagious disease. Tell her I have a moral deficiency."

Casper grabbed her wrist. His grip was hard. "Dosha Young. Do not forget who pays your bills."

Dosha looked at his hand on her wrist. Then she looked at the dog, who had come out from under the table and was whining softly.

"Asset's water bowl is empty," she said. She yanked her arm free. "Since you are the master of the house, you fill it."

She walked into the bedroom and slammed the door. The lock clicked.

Casper stood alone in the dining room. He looked down. The greyhound looked up at him, tail wagging tentatively, waiting for water.

Casper kicked the chair. The dog scrambled away, claws clicking on the wood.

He pulled out his phone. He dialed Liam.

"The receipt for the necklace," Casper said, his voice tight. "Code it as a charitable donation. Do not let the Board see it."

He hung up and stormed out of the apartment.

Inside the bedroom, Dosha leaned against the door. She slid down until she hit the floor. She wasn't crying because he didn't love her. She was crying because three million dollars would have bought her freedom.

The Billionaire's Neglected Wife Is A Genius Novel Cover

Ellyn woke to a news alert of her husband, billionaire Hardy Burnett, picking up his "mystery blonde" ex at a private terminal. Just hours earlier, he had been raw and consuming in their shared bed, but by morning, he was a cold stranger tossing a birth control pill at her. He reminded her with mechanical indifference that their marriage was a mere contract, and the Burnett family tolerated no accidental risks. The mystery woman was Izabella Macdonald, the one who got away. While Ellyn spent her mornings dabbing heavy concealer over the purple bruises Hardy left on her neck, the rest of the world was celebrating the return of the "rightful" Mrs. Burnett. To Hardy, Ellyn was a liability; to his family, she was a placeholder with a bankrupt bloodline. The humiliation peaked at a high-society gala when Hardy walked in with Izabella on his arm, leaving Ellyn to navigate the vultures alone. His mother mocked her as "cheap polyester," and socialites whispered about the penthouse Hardy was secretly buying for his mistress. Even as Hardy's jealousy flared when he saw Ellyn with his brother, his loyalty remained divided, his heart seemingly anchored to the woman in the white silk dress. The breaking point came in the pouring rain outside the venue. Hardy ordered Ellyn into the backseat of the car like common cargo so that Izabella could take the passenger seat-the seat of the partner. He expected Ellyn to sit in the shadows and watch his ex-girlfriend play wife in the front, treating her presence as a domestic inconvenience he could simply command. I stared at the man who owned my nights but despised my existence. The heavy thud of the pill I swallowed every morning felt like a lead weight, a bitter reminder that I was nothing more than a paid commodity in his eyes. He thought he knew everything about his destitute, dependent wife, from the temperature I needed the room to the way I took my tea. But Hardy didn't know about the encrypted ledgers or the offshore accounts. He didn't know that the "destitute" woman he relegated to the backseat was the secret mastermind behind Skim, the global fashion empire currently worth more than his latest merger. "I'm not getting in," I said, my voice eerily calm against the thunder. I slammed the door, turned my back on his roar of fury, and walked into the dark. It was time to stop being a ghost in his house and start being the woman who could buy his entire world.
